Distinguishing Features: Jessica's ears are slightly bigger than normal Nekovalkyrja ears, and are located more towards the top of her head than other Nekovalkyrja, in order to listen better to mechanical instruments and engines. The Engineer can also usually be found covered in various sorts of grime, dirt, dust, and oil.

Psychological Characteristics

Personality:
Jessica's personality can be summed up in one word: Gearhead. She lives, breathes, and dies for engines, mechanical parts, starships, and cybernetics. Even in her spare time does she devote herself to her passion, as she enjoys designing and tinkering with engines, starships, vehicles, and weaponry.

Despite her deep passion towards engineering and tinkering, she views most of Nepleslian engineering as crude and unpolished, lacking the finesse and grace of Yamataian technology.

The engineer also harbours a deep resentment towards the UOC and the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet, and views them both as traitors towards the Empire, for several reasons, including a personal level

Likes: Engines, mechanical systems, cybernetics, designing, alcohol, music, pizza.
Dislikes: Nepleslian technology (Cybernetics excluded), the UOC, the former Fifth Expeditionary Fleet, ignorant people, anyone who calls
Goals: Becoming a professional ships, weapons, and vehicle designer, becoming 50% cybernetic, finding a new family/clan, surviving her entire life-time without another ST.

History

Jessica was born on Tami, where she had a normal childhood, which she spent mostly in her father's garage, where she picked up her skills and passion towards engines and mechanics while she did her best to aid her father in the workshop, eventually officially becoming his apprentice and helping more and more around in the shop.

Eventually, the Aoyama had to leave their livelyhood and homeworld behind when the Mishhu and the SMX invaded their homeworld, sending the family adrift. But eventually the refugees settled down on Taiie, where they started a new workshop, where Jessica's skills as a mechanic finally gained a chance to truly develop and blossom as she slowly took more and more challenging tasks.

But as soon as she was able to, the young woman signed up to serve in the Star Army of Yamatai as a Mechanic and Engineer, and she was eventually transferred to the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet, where she served happily, and eventually reached the rank of Itto Hei. But during this time, disaster struk the Aoyama family again, when the battle for Taiie began.

With Taiie destroyed, the Aoyama family was cast adrift once more, but eventually they found a new and permanent home on Jiyuu. But when the UOC was formed, and the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet joined the newly formed nation, Jessica left the fleet in disgust and renounced her family who supported the UOC wholeheartedly.

To further distance herself from her past, Jessica allowed herself to be converted into an NH-29 Nekovalkyrja, with slight modifications to her ears, to sever her ties to her family, whom held a dislike towards the genetically created super-soldiers of the Empire. One note she made when she was "Nekofied", as she put it, was that she wanted her new body to resemble her old as much as possible.

Now Jessica currently awaits reasignement on Kyoto and hopes to eventually find a new family to belong to.

Skills

Communication: Jessica character is familiar with basic radio operation and procedures and can make transmissions to and receive transmissions from other characters through headsets, starships, power armor, and shuttles in both combat and non-combat conditions. Jessica is fluent in Nepleslian and Yamataian. She can speak and write both correctly and efficiently and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc. Also, as a NH-29 Nekovalkyrja, Jessica is able to send and recieve telepathic messages, and directly interact with computers and other systems with her SPINE system.

Fighting: Jessica received hand-to-hand combat training, followed up with a rigorous training program. She is skilled and experienced in combat both in Yamatai-like conditions and in zero-gravity, with and without weapons. Weapons she is trained in include energy pistols, energy rifles, grenades, knives, and power armor.

Technology Operation: Jessica is capable of operating any computer system that uses the Kessaku OS, found on all Star Army starships. She is proficient in entering and/or searching for information. Jessica can also directly interact with most computers and other systems with her SPINE interface.

Mathematics: Jessica received basic mathematics training, to including up to algebra and trigonometry. She has also recieved more advanced mathematic schooling to better design and understand starship, vehicle, and weapon mechanics to design and repair them.

Vehicles: Jessica is no stranger to most civilian vehicles, and a reasonable amount of vehicles used by the Star Army of Yamatai as her long life as a mechanic, both civilian and enlisted. She is quite skilled at piloting most civilian cars, as well as shuttles and aircrafts, and has some skills with the more common lighter military vehicles.

Engineering: Jessica is a skilled skilled engineer, having recieved both official training in the Star Army of Yamatai, as well as being home and self-taught in her father's workshop. Her great passion for the skill drives her on to become better and better, and create more potent designs. She is also capable of examining foreign technology and engineering, and in some cases reverse engineer other technology, such as Nepleslian, to function with Yamataian.

Maintenance and Repair: Having been around engines and mechanical systems all her life, Jessica knows how they work and how they don't, and is more than capable to preform basic maintenance and both basic and pretty advanced and complex repairs on most systems found in most vehicles and starships, as well as weapons used by the Star Army of Yamatai.

Excuse me, Exhack, but on a biological point of view, that is wrong.

A Nekovalkyrja's boosted regenerative powers would actually HELP in the grafting of cybernetics onto the body, as the body would heal around the cybernetic, and thus more firmly graft itself onto the implant, making it more a part of their body, instead of "healing over it".

Also, nekos can controll their healing rate by manipulating her hemosynths, and thus allowing for Cybernetics to be grafted even easier than if they didn't.

And if Nekos can get piercings (which is essentially the same thing as cybernetics) and tatoos, then surely they can have cybernetics?

Nekovalkyrja are grown and raised in Yamataian culture, which places strict taboos on cybernetics. But the point about your saying they can control their hemosynthesis ... that's not entirely correct.

Nekovalkyrja can control their hemosynthesis in their most basic OS mode, which is usually activated (at least partially) when they are grievously injured. To just control it at any given time is incredibly unlikely for an NH-29, to the point of nigh impossibility. If she were an NH-27, there'd be no discussion she could, but she'd also be a samurai, most likely.

Neko also don't need their ears moved — they can hear better than any normal human being, and they can see better, removing the need for cybernetic eyes.

In short — remove the cybernetic eyes, and put her ears back, please. The colors and curves are totally cool, though.

A few friendly notes:

It is correct, before you posted this Drew and I spoke about it. They can control their hemosynthesis enough to have piercings and tattoos. There are IC examples of it, on top of what he's said. It's not some unbelievable strain, in fact there's no problem to speak of.

An NH-27 is an extreme of that, but this is still feasible as a character design, even if there is a taboo that is an opportunity for character development.

Neko also don't need their ears moved — they can hear better than any normal human being, and they can see better, removing the need for cybernetic eyes.

They can hear better, and see better that's true but she went into a Nekovalkryja body and made choices how it was built. It still feels plausible that she could have them there, since it's not a huge determent to operations. They don't need to move them no. It's not a huge loss, enough that it could be considered. Either way a lot is CO preference, so a grey area could be argued.

Hope this helped!

It would depend on whether this is a newborn neko or a previously-living soul inserted into a new (custom) body...if it's a newborn, then she's going to have the same mass-produced body every other neko has. As for cybernetics, have the neko's visual senses been downgraded since the NH-7? Because those were quite good...

Tattoos are usually genetic, not the manual "needle-and-ink" variety, but, as I noted, I haven't really paid attention since the NH-7, so again that might be different now.

Tattoos do not have to be genetic, an NH-29 can manage their hemosynth enough for it to stick, just like I said above.

She's not a newborn, though. She was transferred which is what I think 'nekofied' means in the wiki.

hmm, as previous posters have mentioned the cybernetic eyes are both counterculture to Yamataian culture and not necessary as a Nekovalkyrja.

Enhanced Senses (Eyesight, Hearing)

Nekovalkyrja eyesight is typically equal to that of a human, though the NH-29 can use it’s hemosynthesis to adapt it’s retina to perceive other visual spectrum such as infrared vision, ultra-violet vision and so on. The Nekovalkyrja’s distinctive ears are more than just fuzzy and cute : they are sensitive, can move to perceive sounds in three dimensions and even their small hairs can help gauge wind speed and humidity.

I'm pretty sure you can more or less replicate any effects that cybernetic eyes would have with neko eyes. Perhaps not rangefinding (although if you wanted you could in theory argue that through advanced mathmatics (well not too advanced) you could visually see it and figure it out using the neko's digital brain).

As for the tattoos, you could probably use the hemosynthetic properties of the neko to say they are permanent, or you could also use the holographic abilities of the neko to do the same (nekos can impose holographic images that look real onto their bodies. It can range from clothing to anything else (no weapons though)).

On another note:

How does she consider the UOC to be traitors? I'd kinda like to hear about this a little more, personally. After the destruction of Taiie the 5XF was more or less cut off from central Yamatai. Through a combination of circumstances they had to more or less fend for themselves. This allowed for a lot of the survivors of Taiie and the 5XF to feel abandoned by Yamatai. I'm not saying she can't hate them, I'd kinda like to understand why she does though.

Well, Jessica was born and raised primarly on Tami, which is a core world, and she's allways loved her nation and viewed it with affection, and she's allways held Yamatai higher than the 5th XF, and thus, when they renounced their ties to the nation which gave them the ability to even serve in the 5th, and allowed Jessica to become a starship engineer, she views them as traitors.

And the UOC is the result of the entire ordeal, and thus she naturally views them as traitors as well, as the 5th Fleet is now very much a part of the UOCPF.

I'm willing to let the ears go. If so, however, I expect other characters to treat it as an abnormality, something that is, frankly, weird and kind of a deformity. Nekovalkyrja are designed to be perfect beings; changing what is already perfect is practically an obscenity against perfection's designer.

The eyes I'm not. Change them back. Despite what Lilly provided, Wes has not told me that cybernetics are even allowed with Neko, let alone possible.

Also, Lilly, I'll talk to Andrew your statements about a Neko's control over her hemosynthesis. At this point, your statements aren't canon until I can verify them.

They can't actually get tattoos, either. If you read the pages, you'll note that the regenerative properties of their bodies cause them to reject the ink. It is possible that having a more zealous auto-immune system (as the synthoid species of the setting do), they are highly prone to rejecting foreign objects.

And while there may have been examples of this in the RP, it contradicts canon, which does happen every once in a while.

At any rate, ICly, this would explain why cybernetic do not work on NH-series species, and OOCly, allows Nepleslians and their kin to have something that Yamatai doesn't. Not to harp, but it wouldn't be very fair if a character was allowed an NH-27's Hemosynth abilities, and the cybernetic architecture of an elite IPG operator.

Actually Ex, nekos CAN have piercings and tattoos. They can control the hemosynth functions enough to do so from what I know. The rest is automatic. Kimberly, quite simply large scale cybernetics would be rejected by the internal hemosynthsis systems much like a human receiving an organ transplant and it fails. The body would reject it.

I was referring to this.

CCG said:
Tattoos are generally unheard of unless they are genetically imprinted in the skin due to a creator's specifications but generally, it is unheard of because of the body's ability to quickly heal and generally reject the ink. (Older models of Nekovalkyrja had their model number, creator and names genetically tattooed on them. Thus with the newer models, they dislike tattoos for this reason- they do not want to be marked as property.)

Thank you for citing that, Exhack. That settles that issue well enough, but that's not what we're discussing here.

Let's allow this issue to rest for now. I'll bug Wes.

The conversation below settles things pretty well, I think. No ink tattoos, no piercings and no cybernetics for at least new characters. So please take out the cybernetics.

[17] <Doshii> So, er, PM me back when you can.
[17] <Wes> .
[17] <Doshii> Sweet.
[17] <Doshii> So, er, tattoos, piercings and cybernetics.
[17] <Doshii> On Neko.
[17] <Wes> basically, they don't work because nekos heal
[17] <Doshii> Right.
[17] <Doshii> We've stated that, but Lilly said that she and Andrew talked about it, and that Neko are able to more or less control their hemosynthesis.
[17] <Doshii> Last I checked, they can't do that unless they're in the most basic mode of their OS, and even at that point, it's more like "well, which chunk of the head do we regen first?"
[17] <Doshii> Am I off there, or is that correct?
[17] <Wes> Some nekos might have the ability to stop the healing but it's not the norm.
[17] <Doshii> Stop the healing ... what Nekos would have that kind of power? Very advanced ones or something? Or maybe really old ones?
[17] <Doshii> I need to know because of this new player, Kimberly M, and her character.
[17] <Wes> Ones with EXP
[17] <Doshii> ... We don't measure EXP though. You just mean in general.
[17] <Doshii> Right?
[17] <Wes> Yeah.
[17] <Doshii> Got it. So ones that practice and have experience and stuff.
[17] <Doshii> Awesome.

Cybernetic eyes are still on the wiki version. You can delete the forum-based version.

Other than that, the character is nearly OK to go. Do you have a plot in mind, or no?

The Wiki has been updated.

And yes, the 4th Fleet (Only got one character there). I made Jessica with the 4th in mind to be honest.
