Tachiko straightened and stacked herself, adopting her most professional sort-of-smile as she felt appropriate for a briefing. "Vester-shōi," she turned to her intelligence officer, "If you would display the latest."
With the volumetric projection active, and the lights in the room dimming ever-so-slightly in response, Tachiko continued, "We have active signals and image intelligence that indicates the presence of Mishhuvurthyar activity in a high concentration in the central-rimward subsector across several star systems. Probes launched by our intelligence and science teams have indicated they are likely research installations with accompanying industrial, security, and logistics infrastructure. Perhaps most strikingly, each facility complex is located on a planet with an overwhelmingly dominant biome that covers most of the surface, with radically non-Yamataian but Yamataian-inhabitable conditions. Our working hypothesis is these are biotechnological research and development facilities for bioweapons optimized for climate and biome conditions. The timeline of activations and movement lead us to surmise they are all part of a larger project, or are interrelated ones."
Making a change to the display to highlight a single system of a dim dwarf with an enormous, closely-orbiting gas giant and extensive moons and ring systems, Tachiko zoomed in further. The scale revealed a hive network of orbital facilities hidden among the moons and moonlets. "Whatever is here, in this system, TX-01," a little blush rose to her cheeks as the naming convention put her initial in the name and she had to pause with discomfort at the distinction, "is big. Bigger than any of the others, by nearly a full order of magnitude, and it came online first according to quantum simultaneity approximation relative to Yamatai time."
"Therefore, it's where we're going first."
