I was wanting to know if this is possible in the game and if there are any penalties associated with it.

It is possible, and would probably result in decreased accuracy.

Just so that you're aware, we don't roll for fights, and there are no numbers associated with skills and talents. Story, not PvP, is the focus of this roleplay (even though PvP has a part of it).
