Concerning a New Character

Hello, I'm a prospective new member of the Star Army roleplay, and before I submitted a character proposal, I had a few quick questions.

First off, even though this is my first charachter, the idea of being in the Star Army does not directly appeal to me. Piracy seems more interesting, but I am somewhat unsure as to how to integrate such a charachter. It doesn't seem like pirates are the most prevalent type of charachter.

Also, I don't nessicarily want to go the cliché route of having my charachter's parents killed in x interstellar accident, or some similar random event. But I'm having trouble thinking up an alternative course that would lead itself to piracy, so suggestions are requested.

My only idea is that my charachters parents could possibly be jailed rebel sympathizers at this point, possibly not both, one could simply be 'in hiding' but I'm not really sure as to the laws against rebels and their sympathizers, and I don't have the best grasp on history and current events yet, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't encroaching on anything first.

Thank you for your time and your suggestions, I'm looking forward to reading them. This seems like an excellent enviornment, but it is a tad more complex than I am used to, telling the truth, and so I want to make sure this goes as well as possible.

Nepleslia's full of pirates. That's the planet that formed its own little empire after breaking away from Yamatai. Use the Star Systems link on the left side to look up both if you haven't already.

Pirates are hard to play around here. It's worth noting that most, if not all, of the players here operate in a "pro-Yamatai" sort of way -- no player has any characters or scenarios directly combating Yamatai, for several reasons I'm not entirely privy to. The biggest one seems to be GM convenience, as our most active system of RP is based around plotships. If you're going for the pirate route, link up with other folks who are pirates. Those folks should probably speak up in this thread da yo!

As for a situation ... rebels against Yamatai are very few and far between, and usually involve Yamataian elements exclusively. Why do your parents have to be dead? If you're a Nep, easy enough to go into piracy -- your home planet sucks ass.

Piracy is a Nepleslian tradition. Few pirates dare to disturb the mighty Star Army, however; most pick on commercial traffic and occassionally ships of small militaries. The most common place the pirates operate from is on the fringes of the YSE or Nepleslian territory.

I would support a pirate plot ship.

Okay, thank you very much for your assistance. I'm going to work up and submit my charachter biography, then. Any other suggestions or bits of information you might think relevant are still appreciated, thank you.

Welcome.

It would be cool to have some pirates around.

:)
