The main defensive device is called the "crybaby". Housed in a...coffee can, the crybaby gives off a radio signal and electromagnetic signature that mimics a spacecraft in distress, requiring scanning pursuers to visually inspect the device to uncover the deception. The crybaby can also be outfitted with small, one-shot thrusters to give it the appearance of being a ship in flight.
Wouldn't a smaller drone with a very good cloak be more cost-effective than a somewhat full-sized drone that is going to be cloaked most of the time anyway?
I think this works because 1, I don't really understand how cloaking technology works so I'm careful with it. 2, This is rather resistant to scanning. Even without the volumetric component of its mimicary system it has a fairly good deceptive capability.
