Final Questions... (NMX/NEPLESLIA WAR INFO)

The NMX... they struck suddenly. They came in ships, waves of thousands, carrying millions of alien soldiers... soldiers without fear, without mercy, who exist only to dominate, enslave and murder. They bring with them advanced weaponry, capable of raining utter destruction on even the strongest of foes.. And not only that, they wield weapons far more insidious than we could ever imagine; parasites able to consume minds and hijack the bodies of their helpless victims.

Our galaxy was ill-equiped to face the initial onslaught. For Yamatai, the relentless crushing assault left fleets in ruin, and planets lost, the once-proud Neko empire scrambling to find a foothold in a desperate effort to stave off annihilation.

The Democratic Imperium of Nepleslia fares no better. The SMX has swept the southern territories without much resistance and now sit on the edge of Nepleslia's core worlds. While her defenses are strong, Nepleslia's inaction has come to haunt her as the full force of the invaders now begins to bear down on her. It will be a long, bloody war, one that will test the very fabric of a nation and the character of its people.

In a time of such crisis, what do you value most? What is worth fighting for?

What is worth dying for?

~~~~~~~
Welcome to the NMX war everybody! It's finally time for the site-wide event to come visit the Nepleslian forums, and it sure as heck is going to be one to remember. After all is said and done, you can be sure of one thing:
Nepleslia will never be the same again.
What do you value most? What is worth fighting or dying for? These are not simple questions left to the flavor text above. They are the questions I want each and every one of us to ask as we embark on this journey together.
The journey will be long, and it will be composed of several chapters, some interwoven, some unrelated, but all relevant to the big picture.
We will be taking advantage of what makes Nepleslia stand out from the rest of the universe: it's staggering degree of diversity. Class diversity. Cultural diversity. Racial diversity. We will show how the lives of civilians across all walks of life are affected by the images of war.
We will jump into the epic battles that define such an event. We will visit ships and crews in and out of battle. The trials of the marines on land and their battles will also be portrayed.
This is the largest event in Nepleslia's history, dwarfing the size and scope of the Kennewes war.
Let's do it! :)
(Thread will be updated tomorrow with more details)
Report in, Acadia dudes!
Master Chief Fian Vel Steyr reporting in!
We'll be serving calamari rings for dinner.
First some general ramblings:
I want to accomodate everyone who is interested in taking a role in this event. I want to cultivate creativity and encourage the players to take chances.
But this comes with a price, in the sense that this is not going to be run like a plot ship. I want to emphasize this. We're talking about an entire planetary empire here. As a participant, you cannot assume that there will be crystal clear objectives laid out for your PCs or NPCs.
A plot ship runs from point A to point B, correct? You're given a general briefing and the GM of said plot guides you along until you either succeed or fail in your objective. Then the cycle repeats.
What you will be participating in is a tad different than the norm. Imagine it being more like an MMORPG. The 'admin' team (Me, Wes, NMX people, etc) will lay out the big picture. The players will then play within that world, hopefully interacting with each other and pushing along story elements that will be integrated into the 'big picture' updates.
For example, let's say that I lay out this situation: NMX attack Nepleslian homeworld space.
How can we approach this? In many ways, depending on what you enjoy as a player.
Let's say you want to command a starship that has the unfortunate duty of facing the initial NMX onslaught. Make a thread and play it out. Maybe you have a friend who wants to play a subordinate of yours or the NMX attackers. Maybe you're running it solo for a while. You have my blessing to do it. I'll help where I can.
Maybe you're playing a civilian on the street, trying to hoard as much survival gear as possible before shit REALLY hits the fan. Do it. Get other people to play with you. Really dig deep into that emotion and let it out. I'll help where I can.
I firmly believe this is the essence of RP: Getting a bunch of peeps together, thorwing out a scenario and brainstorming and writing it out. I want this event to be like that.
With this is mind, please respond to this thread with the following details:
1. Name
2. What you'd like to do (military / civilian / both). Details would be helpful here.
3. PCs that you want to use in this event.
4. Whether you are willing to RP NPCs in other threads.
5. Whether you'd be comfortable running a thread.
1) Uso
2) Military (Specifically characters related to whatever I’m doing at the time. I have plenty of time to keep track and read everything related to my own characters but I’d rather not have to stay on top of everything if I don’t have to. My plan was just to go from planet to planet with Wazu’s ships and break as much stuff as possible)
3) Wazu
4) Willing to RP Drei in other threads, but less willing to RP out non-computer characters
5) will, but would prefer not to.
1. Cipher (Contacted through IRC as "ReallyIsCipher")
2. Combination of military and civilian
3. Mikhael Chandler
4. Sure.
5. No thanks; it'd be a bit of responsibility for me to run my own thread that I can't take on right now.
1. Blackbird (Lore)
2. Both, really. As stated before, brainstorm & create. I'm up for anything that'll fit cohesively in the coming chaos (paradox?).
3. Viktor Kingston
4. I'm game for being NPC.
5. I would be comfortable running a thread so long as it was my own brainchild or I'd been properly debriefed on its "theme." Goal, purpose, whatever. So, yes.
1 - Luca!
2 - Military, technician, armour repair, armour combat'
3 - Henry Morris
4 - If they serve bit roles, yes.
5 - Probably not. I've got University heating up for the next 4 weeks.
After our discussions on IRC about this subject, I'm beefy hungry for some gritty Nepleslian wartime action.
1. Lam
2. Any and All
3. Not anyone really. Perhaps Blake Morris, or maybe I make a character...
4. Yes, always!
5. As long as everyone is secure letting a new-to-SARP such as myself run a thread, I'd be willing to. I'm quite confident that I can.
Awaiting orders/ideas/any sort of communication really/back pats.
1. Cy83r
2. Military - Running Ground Engagements (cover, tactics, uncertain lines, bursts of action); Ship Boarding Actions (fast-paced, high-stakes, high-risk); Starship Engagements (more tactics, submarine-style watch-and-see combat, big BIG guns)
3. Anselm Wyatt - Armor Pilot; Dylan Llewellyn -Vice Admiral
4. Perhaps.
5. Probably not, I don't have the patience required.
I have a whole slew of Origin PCs and NPCs that can help out in the fighting, if you'll have them.
1. Fiver
2. I guess I straddle the line between military and civillian. I want to do some combat on the small scale, mostly using new tech and weapons.
3. I can make some new NPCs, if you want, but i'd be comfortable using the ones I already have
4. Oh sure, I do that all the time.
5. I'd be fine doing that, but i'm not sure other people would be fine with me running a thread.
This is the offiicial kick off of the Final Questions event! Before we have people going all over the place, I'd like to use this one thread to get everyone used to how things will run, as well as beta test the entire process as a whole.
I'm expecting the thread to be a huge traffic jam, so don't worry about that. It's the first step in the process to making things really click.
As you can see from the thread title, I made a basic format. Inside brackets, you will find all the key information you need to get started:
Location of the thread in the Star Army Universe
Whether the thread is Civilian, Military or both
A neato flavor text title
The example above reads like this:
[Manitou, Rok'Veru / Civ & Mil] A Planet on the Brink
For starters, this system will do, but if things really kick off, we will further classify threads into their timeframe as well (whether they are pre-conflict, during or post-conflict with the NMX). For now, though, focus on having fun and let me figure out the OOC details.
