Please provide a unit of measurement for his weight.

You can't have a piece of technology that is not defined in the Wiki. There is no implant translator that I can find at this time.

As I have been told on several occassions, there is no Terra/Earth in the SARP.

This affects the character history, skills and possessions.

Well I can't say I'm suprised about not allowing a Terran, had to try it anyway because of the fun you can have with that sort of plot.

As for the cybernetic Universal Translator, I read in the Cybernetic Overview section about Brain enhancements that such things as improving memory and implanting memories were possible. So if you could implant memories then why not the memories of a language? The three metal studs behind the ear were simply flavor text, not really doing anything.

Anyways, working on the rewrite.
 
Transferring languages yes, that technology does exist within some factions. But a cybernetic universal translater that's installed in a person. Nope. :lol:
 
Why not, language is a information stored in a section of the brain. If you can install a chip in the brain well enough to store information complex enough to be memories of all five senses then it wouldn't be much of a stretch to put the information of a language in the brain. Plus they do have Universal Translators like the one in the Type 29 communicator in hand held form. However there are times where one can't just hold up a hand held device while having a conversation. So a cybernetic version would be better suited and isn't that far fetched. The reason I am arguing this point is because such a thing would be useful for a mercenary that travels a lot.
 
Characters with cybernetic brain enhancements or computers integrated into their bodies could easily possess translation functions built in. However, there are less than 10 languages in current use in the setting, and many of them are exclusively used by species that have had limited contact with the main factions of SARP.

Therefore, you should limit the number of languages you decide to implement, to really, the ones you think the character will need. A universal translator, however, is a no-no.

I am standing firm on this, as Exhack one of the senior reviewers has said, Its a No No.

There are no cybernetic universal translators. You can have a microcomputer implant and it can have translation programs, but they would be for specific languages. The studs themselves could be how he changes the programs loaded.

I now think we're picturing something different while we are saying the same thing. Let's try this, yes the translator can't translate languages it doesn't have a program for so it's not a TRUE Universal Translator. But as long as it has the right program loaded it can translate that language into one the person understands. So if a new species comes out of nowhere then Eric's not going to be able to get a program to translate what the hell they're saying. But he probably could have any of the known languages as long as someone wrote the program, maybe having a limit of three loaded in at one time and the rest stored externally where he would have to free one of the spots up in his head to load them. So it could be used for any of the languages of the known universe, provided he has the software.

And fixed the She at the bottom of the page along with some of the wording.
 
Change the character information to reflect that and I would be fine. While it may be semantics, that is important. If you say he has a translator implant that can store 3 langauges at a time, and he has all 10 major languages available that is fine.

Its the term Universal Translator that is the crux. There is a certain "science fiction" concpetion of what that term implies.
 
OK, put quotations around the term Universal and a section called Cybernetics under Inventory that has the specifics of the translator. And yeah, guess I was thinking commercially when I wrote the description and not thinking about the fact it's a Sci-Fi setting.

Edit: Added a tattoo under distinguishing features.

Uh, I'm saying this on no authority whatsoever, but it would be simpler to just drop the "Universal", seeing as it... isn't.
 
Okay, now that we have gotten past the translator issue, the rest looks okay. The skill descriptions are a bit spartan, but nothing wrong with that given that he's not with a faction.

Please create your user page, and then contact one of the independent GM's regarding joining their plot.
