Approved Submission FMS Pilot Companion AI

This suggestion has been implemented. Votes are no longer accepted.
It is, it can be plugged into the mecha while still in the pilot's cargo pants. Of course if the pilot ejects without unplugging his PiCo it might break the socket but there needs to be some room for failures or else the RP experience would get boring.

Leaving the device in the cockpit when ejecting also gives the character the choice of leaving his PiCo to operate the vehicle on something like a last stand or suicide run while he bails. The PiCo can be restored from a save state, the pilot cannot. Its all about offering a selection of choices for players to make.

That and I want a step down from Yamatai's Uber-tech. Something more robust and simple.

I am currently working on a power suit that will be PiCo compatible. Since a power suit and armor is basically just a small mecha there is really no difference so I'm just using the word 'vehicle' as an umbrella term referring to any mechanical system a person uses to augment mobility or accomplish a task.

Living Computer
It never “speaks” in the traditional sense as it lacks both the programming and processing power to create its own verbal responses, however many vehicles possess a computer with prerecorded statements to offer verbal feedback such as “enemy mecha; destroyed”, “heat level; critical”, “you are outnumbered two to one”, and “reload complete”. Like a dog there is no way to have a two-way conversation with PiCo so a pilot must train himself to look at the vehicle as if it were alive because once PiCo is plugged in the vehicle truely comes to life.

Ah man, is there no way to maybe modify it at some point to all some form of speech? And alive, so it may actually have a personality?

No to speech, yes to personality.

... it lacks both the programming and processing power to create its own verbal responses...
When trying to be good at everything one tends to not be particularly good at anything. Mimicoms are very good with speach, information management, and many other assistant and managerial duties but when it comes to combat you never hear of a Mimicom dominating the battle field. Why? Mimic Computers do two things very well, they process data and look like a human. They aren't armored or strong like the Rayleigh, but they weren't meant to be because they are not a combat android.

Likewise, PiCo is purpose built to fill a single purpose, help the pilot kick more ass by handling all the stupid little things he doesn't want to do or physically can't. For FSCorp building a fighter or mecha costs almost nothing, training a pilot takes way more time and resources. If the pilot dies they now have to send severance and care to his family and that is very costly. They didn't build PiCo to be a diplomat so there was simply no point making it chatty. They built PiCo because the fighter I'm preparing to submit is stupid fast and agile and will be the death of unassisted pilots as it's survival is dependent on out running the competition. It's like an A-wing.

Tl;dr PiCo is a robot dog.

as for the armor mentioned before, I'm also working on a suit of PA. Do you think once it's submitted and accepted, it will be able to have an PiCo integrated with it?

Sure. That sounds like a good idea!

If you're doing armor we should team up on this. I'm looking into getting art for the power suit and light power armor is just a power suit with plating. What do you think about merging our projects together to make a system that an artist can draw all together. the guy I am looking to hire can apparently draw in layers so it'll be cheaper and easier to draw than making two completely separate items.

The power suit would be the hub that we'd make modular armor packages for. It'll open up all kinds of customization options tailored to different roles.

That's pretty dang close to what I was already working on, I wanted something that was an improvement over impulse PA. So I made it lighter, modular, separate sections(base suit, and armor pieces). Was making it to give Saber some unique gear. If you wish I can link you to what I have done?
