[FSR] Aftermath of the Genocide

The transmission, both audio and video, is very low quality. It shows a rather humanoid-looking Type Four Freespacer, standing in front of a crudely painted gearwheel-sun-moon symbol of the Free State on a metallic wall.

"Transmissions continue, despite the massive damage and communication failures suffered by our networks in the last months." It (she?) announces, in a surprisingly humanlike, young female voice. "The fighting is pretty much over in all known sectors, apart from some isolated pockets of pirate and guerrilla warfare targeting Fascist assets without much success."

A graph appears at the side of the screen, showing the various Freespacer colonies, Fleets and Motherships and their losses.

"The outcome of the genocide is tragic, with less than one point five million survivors accounted for. Most survivors are either in Nepleslian territories, slaves on Fascist planets, or fleeing to the Galactic north. Additionally, an unknown number of motherships have severed themselves from Polysentience, estabilshing their own isolated sub-networks, and are currently undertaking unknown contingency plans to preserve survival of the biological component of our race and of our basic industrial power, at unknown locations." The large Type Four fidgets nervously. "Even though the motto of our Free State Radio is "Information wants to be free", we do not have the resources to investigate further on this topic. We apologize to the audience, while reminding that this is not censorship in any form, but rather a precise editorial choice caused only by our current circumstances."

An impossibly complex diagram appears on the side of the screen in place of the graph, showing what looks like a mind-bogglingly huge network.

"Damage to our communication relays and loss of the Great Lighthouse to the attacks of the Fascist Empire of Yamatai have severely damaged Polysentience. State-wide polls and referendums are currently impossible, and many pockets of survivors are defaulting their choices to the response of local votes. Repairing Polysentience is currently considered a top-priority task."

The diagram disappears, and is replaced by the flag of the Democratic Imperium of Nepleslia.

"Our Nepleslian neighbors and friends, in the figure of their..." (the Type Four hesitates slightly, as if unsure of what would be the correct word to use) "...representative, Robert Davis, has offered asylum to all Freespacers, provided that they voluntarily submit to Nepleslian rule."

Above the flag, a clip of Sky Marshal Robert Davis' announcement is played, with scrolling text above the window explaining the meaning of unfamiliar words he used such as "Employment" and "Family". Below the flag instead, screens of scrolling text show the Nepleslian Constitution, with side comments.

"While quite restrictive, many of these "rules" are based on common good or common sense, and it is our opinion that they make Nepleslia the, albeit distant, second-best democracy in known space."
The Type Four stares into the camera with its burning, red-lit sensors. "Nepleslia has sponsored rescue operations in the sectors that have been hit more heavily by the Fascist assault, but has refused to side with us during the battle. However, this refusal is comprehensible, given the absolute ruthlessness the Fascist Empire of Yamatai has demonstrated in the last months and given that Nepleslia has a long history of war with Yamatai."

The side of the screen goes blank and is replaced by a blurred snapshot of a Mothership being hit by some kind of energy weapon and exploding from the inside out. The beam has been fired from somewhere just out of the field of view.

"The Fascist Empire of Yamatai still holds a great number of Freespacer slaves captured during the attack. To the best of our knowledge, all of them have either severed themselves from Polysentience upon capture, or have been severed by vigilant Hackers, so this message has no chance to reach them." She remarks with a hint of sadness. "Freespacers that have taken residence in Nepleslia and Nepleslian citizens together have mounted peaceful protests to ask for their release, but the more time passes, the less likely they are to survive or maintain their sanity due to their disconnection."

In the usual corner of the screen appears the bright logo of the Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp.

"Meanwhile, after long researches into surviving Polysentience archives, we discovered the Fascist excuse for the attack, which with no doubt only a very small percentage of Freespacers know about." The Type Four pauses for effect. "A yet-unnamed Freespacer, possibly a Hacker, talked with a Mishhuvurthyar operative. And, no, we are not making this up. No hostile actions have been carried out in any way or form as a consequence of this meeting."

The graphic of losses suffered by the Free State appears once again.

"We remind everyone that the total toll of death among our kind has been of approximately eight hundred thousand." The Type Four repeats, getting the point across with all the brutality it can muster.

The screen slowly fades to black.

"Hoping for a better future, we thank you for following our broadcasts today."
