The stars in the deep field of black rippled imperceptibly, and then disappeared entirely in the direct vicinity of a grouping of thirty ships, all of them painted blue and white with the planetary banner of Khorsovarolor across their prows.
Thirty ships of the Chasm Crosser class formed into a neat line and dropped into orbit, twenty of them converted to their maximum passenger capacity while ten of them were laden with supplies and raw materials to help start the rebuilding effort.
As the last effects of the hyperspace transition faded from the sky above the moon, a second distortion rippled through the area that had just finished calming down. Ten sleek blockade runners dropped into normal space and took up flanking positions on either side of the convoy.
The lead ship in this escort was none other than the flagship of the Osiris class, fully repaired and looking as good as if Valaad had never happened. Its comm systems fired up and Terry's voice broadcast onto the civilian bands.
"Attention refugees. The Khorsoi fleet has arrived as promised. We have twenty ships outfitted to carry two thousand passengers each. The facilities are small, but comfortable, and there's enough room for your valued possessions.
"Regrettably we cannot take everyone so we ask that those who have been most displaced by the incident be given first consideration. When all our berths are full and the materials have been offloaded, we will take them to our planet and do our best to accommodate their needs.
"We will make two more runs after this one to bring as many as we can to our cities and our towns until we can accept no more.
"Let it be known that we do not condone whatever actions were taken by the Yamataians in this tragedy, but nor will we engage in aggression against them. I wish to express to whatever Yamataians who might be listening that while they will not be prevented from entering our solar system they will be closely watched. We are not fools."
