Master Admiral Robert Davis sat at his mahogany desk, patiently awaiting the arrival of Wazu. When the door opened and his soldier limped in, the Master Admiral stood, motioning to the chair opposite the desk. "Sergeant Wazu, please have a seat."
"Yes sir," Wazu said, half limping to, and half falling in the seat after he crossed over from the door to the desk.
The Master Admiral wore the same outfit that he wore almost every day: the standard issue Nepleslian Army outfit with a beret. The only thing differentiating him from a common soldier was his rank patch. Davis extended his hand to the sergeant with a smile. "Sergeant, you've done your nation a fine service."
James got up from his seat enough to shake the outstretched hand, pumping twice firmly and then letting go. "Thank you sir, what is my next assignment?"
Davis looked through some sheets that were on his desk. "I was looking through your file here, Sergeant... ah my mistake." The Master Admral trailed off as he reached into his desk and pulled out a rank patch and handed it to him. "Master Sergeant, Wazu. Congratulations."
Wazu nodded and held onto the rank pin for the time being.
"I was looking at your file and noticed a rather egregious error on the part of personnel. Based on your past performance logs, you have extensive experience in the fields of biology, engineering and technology, correct?"
"That is correct," Wazu said. "Though less in biology and mostly in engineering and technology."
"Based on what we've gleaned from old Star Army reports, you were quite good. Master Sergeant, do you still feel capable of performing these functions?"
"Yes." Wazu said. "I think."
The Master Admiral's smile widened. "Very well. With the departure of shipbuilding and weaponbuilding facilities on Nepleslia, the government has taken upon itself to create a company to replace these lost facilities. Nepleslia needs a military identity that does not rely on Yamatai or its associates. What we need is a force that can stand on its own and make Nepleslia a force to be reckoned with." Davis handed a data pad to Wazu that laid out NAMs and all of its facilities/capabilities. "But, in order to achieve that, we need brilliant minds to head the operation. I'm asking you, Wazu, to be the head of NAMs, to guide it, like you've done others in the past to glory."
Wazu didn't pick up the data pad and just sat there for a few moments. "Are... Is... " He paused again as he pieced together the right words to use. "If I may, To what ends is NAM working toward and are you certain about this?" Wazu asked. "The last time I ran a company it... had repercussions."
Davis paused himself, having noticed the change in Wazu's emotion. "I will not lie to you, Wazu. The purpose of NAMs is, mainly to build military weapons for military purposes. These weapons will be used to defend the nation, and, if necessary, kill its enemies. The nation as it stands right now is somewhat defenseless compared to Yamatai or the Mishu for that matter. We need to change that quickly. Your past record shows a brilliance with design matched by few. The unfortunate circumstances involving your departure from Yamatai have no grounds here. If need be, we can change your identity, make you a new person. I will not betray you, but I expect a man who will not commit heinous atrocities against Nepleslia or its citizens."
Wazu nodded, and reached for the data pad. He began to review its contince before saying anything. "Alright, When do I start?" His mind started to wonder about how he would justify doing this again, but for the moment he wouldn't worry about that. "The identity change offer is nice but... unnecessary. I don't have any family left here to protect by hiding my identity anyways."
"You start whenever you feel fit to. However, I wish for that to be sooner than later. The official orders will be registered shortly, but the gist of it is that you will be taken off of active military duty to work full time for NAMs. The chain of military command will not apply to you during this tenure, but please do not abuse this privilege. You will act as head of research and development for NAMs as well as a member of the board of directors. Do you have any questions?"
"I have none, though," Wazu thought about it, there was someone he wanted to talk to again but... "I have no questions." He restated. "I should get to work."
"Very well." The Master Admiral stood and walked Wazu to the door. "I expect great things from you, Wazu. I'm certain that you feel the same way about yourself."
Wazu just nodded silently and left.
