Help Color A Faction

Okay, so there's another thread happening for the name of the new faction Gallant is working on, currently known as Asteria.

But the real question I want to know is what color scheme will it use for its uniforms?

Suggestions go below.

I think russet is the obvious choice. Maybe paired with yellow or pea green.

The uniform itself, as far as we are considering it, is actually going to be something like a mantle; three species actually contribute to Asteria, and at least one of those species has a notable aversion to clothing. The problem we run into is that it's very difficult to create a standard uniform for the range of species that we currently have in the faction. The Ottyo can't wear bodysuits; they're feathered, and require loose clothing. The Vekimen despise clothing. And Bhelith's troops are mostly ex-Jiyuuian or ex-Yamataian, and prefer bodysuits, or tighter clothing.

Our answer to unifying these uniforms (or lack there of), much like the United Nations Brassard, is to propose introducing a mantle much like this which would display a person's rank and station based upon the complexity of its make and embroidery.

Kind of like the Yamataian skirts were originally, the length of the mantle would denote rank or station. A commander of forces would have a cloak or a longer mantle; the officer of a ship or a staff officer would have a mantle about as pictured there; a regular soldier or an engineer likely wouldn't have a mantle at all.

For the Morioka Clan, their colors are Green and Gold, with Black, minor. The Vekimen use Black and White. So it's likely that the nation's colors will be some combination of those. I think we were holding off deciding until we had settled on a flag or a banner, but those are the three most likely candidates. The bodysuit for humanoids that we were working on is black and white, with a gold, or green-trimmed mantle over it.

Another idea I've been toying around with would be having people have heraldry, in much the same way that each Yamataian ship has sigils and patches, which would give the whole thing a very feudal feel for me - which is pretty damn close to what it actually is.

Huh? There was never a relationship between skirt length and rank in the Star Army. Taisho wore the same skirts as Santo heis, even during the period where long skirts were authorized.

Yeah. I like the idea of length equating to rank in a brassard, but skirt and sleeve length didn't denote anything in the SAoY. ...

Yes, but if I recall correctly, wayback we joked that a Neko's political aspirations were linked to the length of her skirt. The shorter the skirt, the higher the aspirations. That was back when the uniform requirement was "A Skirt" and it wasn't standardized.

Could have sworn that came out of the Sakura or the Eucharis! I had thought you were the one joking about it, but I guess I've misremembered. (I should have been clearer; it was an old joke).

Reposting this from chat (I thought it was good discussion).

Since Nepleslia is all over green, what about yellow or gold as the "primary" color?

Could do black and gold, but I don't actually agree with the argument put forth here behind trying to argue against the colors the subfactions already use.

The British flag and the American flag share colors with the French flag which shares colors with the Cuban flag.

Why are we arguing exclusivity exactly?

As a mild update, we're continuing to hash out the uniform with some of the suggested colors. We've actually got a character that we're using for it, so the concept art is going pretty well and I'll update this thread with it just to give people an idea once we're satisfied with it.

You'd have to delete Raz's suggestion we color ourselves like vomit, too.
>that feel when everyone thinks you're making a suggestion in bad faith when you actually know more about great heraldic colors than 99% of the userbase.

Russet and yellow:

Russet and pea green:

Don't the squids have that on call?

Hey guys, I've removed several posts in the thread that don't seem to be trying to contribute to the discussion in a meaningful and helpful way. It's okay to make funny posts, but the point of the thread is to actually discuss color ideas, so if you're just posting picture spam or trying to troll, figure out something better to do. Going forward any posts that don't have a decent amount of thought expressed in them (hint: use your words) will be removed.

Let's get this back on track. So far, the (serious) suggestions I've seen are:

1. Russet (with yellow or yellow-green accents).

Pictured: A horsehide leather jacket in russet color:

2. Morioka Green and Gold with Black accents

3. Yellow (possibly with green secondary)

4. Black and Gold

5. Black and Silver with Gold Accents

6. Black with Red Trim

7. Hot Pink

I'm not convinced this suggestion was legitimate but here's an example:
