[ISC Enkidu] Let the Looting Begin!

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Harada Eika woke to the sound of her own stomach. She affectionately called it "the grenade" because of how its grumbles were short and sharp.

She was on three days with no food. The last thing she ate was a large, half-eaten pretzel someone on the ship hadn't found appetizing and had thrown in the trash. It tasted fine to her, but she was used to old ration packs. Maybe it was the mold growing on parts of it. It was easy to pick off; some people were just ungrateful.

Eika was going to be very grateful when she found food again. Food she didn't have to steal from trash compactors in the kitchen, at least. She also was going to be grateful when she found a way off the stinking ship she was on, free from the stale, chemical-ridden cabinet inside which she hid herself. Most of the bandages and supplies inside the medical room were expired anyway; whoever had owned the ship first had not put much stock in good medical care.

The grenade went off again. She burped, too, old bile crawling up her throat. She wanted to cover her hand and utter an apology for her rudeness, but her arm was jammed at her side in the cabinet, and no one heard her anyway. She hoped. The most alpha member of the crew, who sounded like a woman with some kind of deformation of the mouth, didn't seem to like anyone. A stowaway wasn't likable to begin with.

Her hand could just reach the inside latch of the cabinet, which she was pretty good at opening after a couple weeks of practice of fumbling in the dark with something that had too many rough edges that ate away at her fingertips. She slowly pushed the door open and was glad it didn't squeak. She smiled. No one heard. No one smelled. She didn't bother smelling herself anymore, as after the ninth day she instructed her OS to filter out her own stench.

The ship was silent. Had it been abandoned? She remembered when it took off; if it was abandoned, it was likely in space. Pirates? She kept her cool. If the ship was abandoned, it could be in tow by pirates. Better yet, it was such a rust bucket they ignored it all together and went in search of a better target. Could she get a ship running again? Eika thought she could, if she had to do so.

She took a few steps forward into the medical center, then stopped.

Her OS was giving her a lot of warnings. Most of them had to do with energy levels, which she had been routinely ignoring. However, now her OS indicated she lacked sufficient energy to continue movement. She dropped to the floor in a heap.

Humans usually lost all functions at once, but a Nekovalkyrja's OS let her selectively shut down functions to maintain the highest possible combat capability available. Eika queried her internal diagnostic system and found the base OS had shut down motor control below her waist. She sighed. Fine, she could crawl. How much energy did she have left? Her diagnostic told her enough to crawl two meters. After that, she'd lose all muscle function below her neck, save for what was needed to breathe.

Eika frowned, which her OS mechanically told her reduced her remaining crawl distance to 1.998 meters. She could shut off her senses save for smelling and touch, but she'd only gain 0.3 meters, and the closest food was probably five meters away. She could not order her body to break down her muscles, as those were hard-wired to be reserved for stasis mode.

So she remained on the floor, thinking. Trying to come up with something that would energize her and let her at least get back in the closet.

Behind her, something creaked. She froze. The cabinet had an old gurney inside of it, metal and heavy. She realized she forgot to close the cabinet door behind her, leaving the gurney without something against which to be propped. The floor was metal, too, she realized.

*CRASH*

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Dante near hopped out of his chair when he heard sound that rang through the ship. It caused him to break out into a cold sweat, as he was one of the only few people on the ship at the moment. Could it be Mishhu? That could be possible, very possible. Dante shivered a bit, trying to shake of a the icy memory of watching Mishhumachina tear through his former shipmates in a past cruise. No no no no! Dante shook his head, becoming focused once again. He sent a request onto the A.I. to show the source of the sound. Internal systems sent back an image of the med-bay, an over-turned gurney, and...

A woman...? Dante thought, spying Harada through the ship's internal systems. Why is she crawling around on the floor like that? Then it hit him, She must be wounded!

Something in Dante's gut didn't settle right with this, so he pulled out his .45, and set it on the console.

"Captain, I've got to deal with an internal issue on the ship, I'll call you back when I return to my station." reported Dante as he stepped out of his chair, and pulled back the receiver on his weapon. With that, he set out, quickly moving down the halls towards the Medical Bay to investigate the disturbance. As he approached the door, he poked his head into the bay, taking a short look, before noticing Harada on the floor.

"Hey!" he rang out, hustling over to the fallen woman, and placing a hand on her shoulder, "Are you alright?" The Pilot looked around the room for any signs of an enemy before looking back down at Harada, "Are you hurt?"

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Eika looked behind her. A short man with light hair with a gun. He looked tough. He smelled like coffee.

She looked up at him and wanted to hide her ears. He wasn't shooting her, which was a good sign. But he could, if he wanted to. Might as well press her luck. She only had about 0.5 meters worth of energy anyway.

"I'm fine," she said. "I'm just hungry ... fatigued. Could you, um, help me? I think there's apples in the kitchen. Could you get me one, please?"

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"Looks like you need more than just an apple." Dante said, holstering his .45 caliber weapon. He looked her up and down, noting her fatigued, near dried out condition. "You picked a wonderful time to starve yourself, y'know? But no worries, I'm sure the Captain doesn't have to know about this." He was, of course, speaking about how she was starving, not of the true fact that she was a stowaway, or a Neko for that matter. As a six year vet of the Star Army of Yamatai, he was used to the presence of Nekos, just not anywhere outside the YSE. He wasn't sure on what connections Myr had, but to get a Nekovalkyrja on the roster was quite impressive.

Though, despite any worries he had, Dante unceremoniously picked up the smaller woman into his arms. While it did seem a bit sudden, the Neko's condition unsettled him enough to disregard the notion of personal space.

"I'll just take you to the kitchen, we can fix you a little something to get you going." Dante smiled, before taking another look around, intending to get her out of the foodless med-bay and to a foodful kitchen.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Eika was stunned. He wasn't going to shoot her. Irim's eyes, he was going to help feed her! Sometimes, things too good to be true actually came true!

She had enough energy left, it seemed, to blush, because when the small man swept her up into his arms, that's what she did. She was used to being the one doing all the personal space invasions. Still, food. Food. FOOD!

FOOD!

"T-thanks a lot. You're a life-saver." Eika put her arms around his neck so she didn't flop out of his like a dead fish. Oh ... oh, oh oh oh. Fish. She didn't smell any, but maybe there was some. She wanted anything, though; she would eat a thousand of the moldy pretzels if she could.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Helen nodded in agreement though she was just guessing at the reactions at this moment. The pirate in front of her behaved in the same way her captors did and was able to work her thoughts around that instead of just language. "Money not here, let me use sinsors on ur shwip can fwind it," then with a sigh she let her arms down.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Hoooo, I better make this quick, or the Captian'll nip my goat. Dante thought, his cybernetic legs making the stride towards the kitchen much effortless. To her, it would feel like he had a bit of strain in his muscles by holding her up, but his pace was strangely quick for someone burdened with the weight of another. Though, when he got a ways down the hall, he realized he didn't know exactly where the Kitchen was, despite knowing well enough where the Med Bay was.

"Enkidu, I need directions to the Mess Hall and Kitchen." asked Dante, and a moment later, he found himself guided by small arrows on the floor, which he followed, his masterful stride continuing.

When he rounded the corner into the kitchen, he came to a halt as he found a stool next to the counter. As easily as he could, he set Eika down on the stool, and propped her on the table.

"Wait here, I'll grab you something." Dante said, before spotting a small box of snack cakes right next to him. "Here!", he pulled one one of the plastic wrapped snack cakes and set it down in front of her. "This'll bide ya over until I can find something edible in the fridge."

At least, he hoped there were edible things on the fridge. Luckily for Eika, there were already a few pre-cooked items set aside. One of those looked like miniature steaks, part of the large amount of meat they had on board already. So Dante grabbed a plate, set a few slabs of the snack steaks on it, and grabbed a SLAM from the cooler. Seems like a good meal to me. thought the Vickensmall.

"By the way, I'm Dante Martellus Vickensmall." stated the Pilot as he set down the drink and cold meal in front of her. "You don't mind if this is cold, do you?"

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Eika's ears twitched at the sound of joints moving. It was faint, and hard to hear under the rustling of the pants, but she knew the sound of Nepleslian cybernetics. Decent ones, too. It was nice to think about something other than food, so she did. Cybernetic attachments to flesh were always difficult to treat, but she could handle them, if she had the right tools. If only she hadn't sold her medical kit for food.

She thought it was very nice of him to put her down on the stool with such concern. She didn't want to fall off, so she used her hands to balance her body against the countertop. She saw the snack cake put in front of her and thought for a moment.

As a Neko, she could handle the shock of glucose to her system, and there wasn't enough sodium or protein to worry about. She was still hydrated, after all. Her OS stated she could restore universal muscle movement with it, but it wasn't the best.

The steaks she also examined closely. Worse choices. Sodium, protein, fat — things she didn't need. The SLAM had a lot of sugar in it, along with caffeine, some other stimulants and a few other chemicals related to preservation. Really, it was mostly sugar with some carbonation in it. Like a soda pop. There wasn't any sodium to speak of.

"Um, no. It's OK. Ah ... could you get me a straw, please?" She fluttered her eyes at him, a typical bedside trick that helped smooth patients over.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"No problem, just give a second to look." said Dante, feeling alright with handling the obligation, despite with his duties breathing down his neck. So he started to look through the drawers in the room, attempting to find some straws in the most reasonable places people would put them. However, as he continued looking, it seemed as if they didn't have any straws at all. He went around looking in all the lower cabinets as quickly as he could, avoiding the high cabinets for obvious reasons.

Yet, after even more searching, the Vickensmall became fairly frustrated, and was about to give up.

"Argh... It's like they're trying to hide from me." Dante looked up at the high cabinets, far out of his reach, with disdainful eyes. I'll just look in one of these, and if it's not up there, I'll just tell her she's out of luck. Thought the pilot as he squatted a bit, and then hopped on top of the counter with very little effort. Then, he pulled open the Cabinet, which contained nothing...

... but a singular box of straws.

No way. Dante stared at the container for a second, before pulling a singular straw from it, and hopping down to the floor.

"Here ya go," the Pilot set the straw down on the counter, "Now, I gotta get going, because we're in the middle of a salvage mission and I'm supposed to be on the bridge." He started towards the door, he spoke normally, until his words progressively sped up matching his pace, "Oh, and when you're done here, just come up to the bridge, that way youdon'thavetodealdirectlywiththeCaptainforskippingonasalvagerun. Enjoyourmeal!" finished the Vickensmall as he hustled quickly back up to the bridge.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Eika made sure to flash a very appreciative smile at Dante before he walked away.

She had enough energy to open the stupid can. She dropped the straw in before she smelled the stuff; it made her want to gag, but the sugar was practically yanking her tongue out of her mouth. She leaned forward and took a suck.

" ... " The chemical composition was as advertised. The sugar made her eyes pop open, and the caffeine sent them zinging left and right. But it was going to work, for sure.

She finished the can, which lasted maybe a couple minutes, before she went to the snack cake. All the processed chemicals inside it made her wonder if there were any calories in it, but one bite was all she needed to determine that yes, it had a lot. Mostly sugar. Some fat.

Once she finished that, she tested her OS. It took another minute, but it registered the energy, and she was able to move her whole body again.

The first thing she did was put the steaks back and grab an apple. A peach. A bagel. That would be enough for an hour or so, and she took it all back to the medical center.

If she was going to be the one patching up people after they were done with their illegalities, she wanted to be ready.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"Ship better not be fuckin' broken!" Myr barked to Dante as he signed off of the comm link, incensed as usual. Quickly following that, she listened to Helen's mush-mouthed statement. The redheaded captain considered the two people in front of her, then sighed and picked up the gun the Yorna had dropped.

"Okay. Ugh. I got a plan. Let's both'a ya come on th' ship, an' sanity-as-a-secon'-language there can get it on with Dante 'n figger out where the cash is. Get everythin' set up, get th' money, find out if there's anythin' else worth takin' here." She jerked her thumb behind her, then turned and started to walk through the cargo bay again.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Tuija had slipped away to fiddle with a computer terminal while the others went on in the ship, once it became apparent that there were no pirates, Mishhu, or monsters lurking there. She was leaning over the console, resting on two elbows while her other arms worked away at typing or fiddling with the wiring, when Myr came storming back through.

'Ah, captain,' she said, turning. 'I nearly have this fixed, and it should provide us with a wealth of information on where to look for valuable...' She blinked, realising that there were more people present than the landing party started with. 'Ah, Captain, I would have thought that we'd finished recruiting when we left the planet for deep space.'

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

As if on cue, Louis strode up beside Myr. Around his waist was a simple oxygen-breathing apparatus; the kind of thing that you would see in a poorly-ventilated construction area on Nepleslia Prime. A pair of oxygen tanks in a satchel bag were connected to a high-density rubber hose, which in turn attached to a respirator mask. The mask in question was around Louis' neck at the moment. The rest of his attire was perfectly normal, except that the seemingly pointless sportcoat had been abandoned, leaving the spring-loaded knife holsters on his biceps in plain sight.

"Thought ye could use th' extra hand," Louis said quietly, crossing his arms behind his back and standing off to the captain's right side. "An' sorry I'm late."

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Shiori watched idly as the fate of the two captives/rescuees/hostages/whatever was debated. Unless Myr decided to vent them into space then and there, she didn't care much one way or the other. Seeing Tuija, she got on her own comm and said, "We might be able to strip this wreck for a few parts that will make our life easier. Anything that can be used to repair the Enkidu and won't take up too much space, I'd suggest we haul back up."

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

Chrys stayed in cockpit when dwarf left. She thought it was not that clever to let bridge unatended. She also clearly saw monitor with woman lying on the ground. And the woman was Neko.

Dante clearly wanted to take care of it himself so she stayed there and watched security monitors. Mainly one taking care on airlock. She saw Louis walking on the other ship and to the captain.

When Dante came back after few minutes she have put hand in front of her microphone so captain wouldn't hear. "You know pilot, I have been watching airlock monitor whole time. She couldn't get on board from that ship. Which means she must have been on board before we locked to other ship." She said.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"Well, yeah." said Dante as he settled back into the cockpit, responding to Chrys' hypothesis on the Neko's origin. Though, before answering further, he tapped his console and reopened the the communications link with the away crew. "Back at my station, the doctor just needed some settling in." clarified Dante to Myr, before he looked back up at Chrys with a shrug. "Well, she's probably been here longer than all us. She's likely just shy, most Nekos are, at least, to people they aren't familiar with. I'm just not too sure how the Captain was capable of hiring one."

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"I am more interested in where did captain keep that neko hidden," said CHrys. Still off the channel. Chrys put both her hand on her head deep in thought before speaking again. "I have personally never seen Neko. Only from afair. Never left Funky city you know. I heard some stories though. More like rumors. Most of them stupid. Although those eye-beams would be handy on our side." She said and smirked. "Anyway is she okay? Should I go keep her company?" She asked then.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"She'll be fine after she recovers some more. Apparently, she was starving herself for some reason." responded Dante as he monitored his instruments closely, not seeing much change in the situation so far. He then switched over to his other instruments, doing some long-range scans of the area they were in. "As for company? I wouldn't know, she might like someone to talk to, she might not."

Dante hung his head over the back of his seat to look up at Chrys, "As long as she's not in eye lasering mood, you should be fine just by checking on her, right?"

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"True that," Chrys replied to Dante and stood up. "Watch those monitors space-cowboy, I am going to say hello to that Neko." She said and left the bridge.

She went into kitchen but Neko was not there anymore. Confused face appeared on Chrys's face. "Where could she go?" She asked herself aloud and went to search for the girls. It took her a minute or two before finding her in med-bay. She knocked on doorjamb to not startle neko inside.

Neko was very small. Not more than meter and half. Chrys didn't go to near. She would tower over the small woman like ..... well like Elysian over the Neko. "Hello," she said then. "Haven't met you yet. I am Chrysanthe, you can call me Chrys." She wanted to start slowly and friendly. She also wasn't sure how much of a rumour those laser beams in eyes were.

Re: Let the Looting Begin!

"Fine shit, Mac," Myr said, swinging to the side briefly to hip-check Louis. "We're headin' back with our fuckin' hostages." She jerked her thumb behind her, then moved the hand to salute the distant Tuija, responding on her comm. "So did I, babe! But we got these two bitches just waitin' to be assigned." The red-haired captain didn't move too far forward before she looked over her shoulder to make sure Anya and Helen were following them.
