SANDRA Jiyuu's Heiwa party declares victory in Senate race

Tokyo Megacity, Jiyuu III - After a nail-biting run-off election between the remaining two contenders that kept residents of the still-devastated metropolis in anticipation for days, the official Imperial sanctioned results are now in: The Jiyuu Heiwa ("Freedom & Harmony") party and its moderate leader Mochizuki Shiori narrowly defeated Mitsuya Satoru and his libertarian Jiyuu Rengou ("Freedom Alliance"), with the ex-Peacekeeper capturing 60% of the popular vote versus the local compressed helium fuel magnate's 40%. With the ascent of Mochizuki to the Senate seat, Jiyuu's loyalty to the Yamatai Star Empire is cemented and many citizens hope that she comes through on her campaign promises to rebuild the ravaged infrastructure and provide jobs for the displaced populations of the NMX invasion.

Of particular note is that the large refugee populations rapidly streaming into the planet from former Yamataian camps, as well as those currently residing in Nepleslian space who still have rights to property in Tokyo who cast absentee ballots, made it extremely difficult to establish an accurate count of which votes were legitimate, with both major parties claiming victory at various points over the past week. Conspiracy theories that the Star Army of Yamatai itself rigged the election results in favor of the Imperial-leaning candidate by corrupting certain polling station's data were rampant, but public relations liaisons for Tenth Fleet assured us that they were unfounded, and largely propagated by disgruntled members of the opposition Rengou party. Their political action committee also was called out by Heiwa trying to bribe election officials, however there was no comment from them on these allegations as of press time.

Mitsuya's campaign headquarters released a press statement conceding the election and formally congratulating Mochizuki Shiori on her victory, however they also saw fit to remind her to remain true to the Peacekeeper charter which she claims to also adhere to. But, considering the differences of interpretations between the two candidates and the intense mud slinging witnessed during the election, it remains to be seen if this war of ideals is entirely concluded.
