Sasaki Iaso was seated at his desk in the Geshrinari Shipyards office. He was reviewing the performance and sales figures for the quarter. While he was not involved in management, he liked to keep abreast of how the corporation was doing. After all his future depended on the corporations future.
Tanja Dunst stepped off of a public vessel onto the Amatsu-Nova station, she had recently left her home world in search of adventure and she was confident that today would be the beginning of that adventure. She looked around a moment collecting herself and then making sure she was dressed appropriately, a blue blouse some khaki pants and opened toed flats were not her usual style but she wanted to look presentable. After she was sure she was presentable she headed towards Geshrinari Shipyards office to see what they could do for her. Once inside she looked about to see who was there and who she should probably speak to.
Iaso dismissed the volumetric display that he had up when he saw a person come into the office. Folks coming into his office was not unusual but an Abwheran Nightwalker was definitely not usual. 'What is she doing here? Is she lost and looking for directions.' the brown haired, brown eyed Yamataian wondered.
Standing up he said, "Hello Welcome to Geshrinary Shipyards Sales office. My name is Sasaki Iaso, how may I be of service to you."
If the Abwehran seemed a rarity before that idea was only cemented as she walked over to Iaso's desk, a black furred tail swaying some behind her and just barely visible from his perspective.
She offered him a smile and then spoke up "Yes, I am Tanja Dunst and I have heard that this company makes great ships. I was interested in working out a deal for such a ship with you."
'Interesting,' he thought. "Certainly Miss Dunst." He replied and pulled a chair out by his desk, "Kindly take a seat." he said motioning to the chair. He then walked around to the other side of the desk, and pulled up a volumetric display that he positioned so both would be able to view it. "So did you have a particular type of ship in mind or would you like to peruse our catalog?" He inquired.
Tanja moved to the seat and sat down, wrapping her tail around her waist so she didn't have to sit on the edge of the chair. "Well I never took a look at your catalog, but I do plan on starting out with mining and salvaging. It is something I know how to do and it pays decently, so a ship meant for that would be a good start."
"Well, mining and salvaging are very similar. The ship requirements would be mostly the same. To that end I would suggest the Henkei-Class Mining variant. The Ge-Y1-4a Prospector, which also has the advantage of being customizable to meet the clients needs." He said and the image of the ship appeared with the ships stats displayed next to. Isao let Tanja review the information.
The Abwehran woman looked over the volumetric display with a careful eye, she had experience with a few starships, not enough to tell a good one from a great one at glance, but she could identify a bad one and this fortunately did not look like such. "You said this was customizable?" She seemed interested in hearing about that and whether it was just a sales pitch or if it meant more.
"Yes, technically all of the Henkei shops can be modified. Because the sections on either side of the main hull are modules. So they can be swapped. For example they might decide that they want a larger cargo capacity because they intend to do speculative trade as well as prospecting. "Well you remove one of the Ge-Y1-M3103 mining modules and replace it with a Ge-Y1-M3100 cargo on. Plus the default weapons for the Henkei can be swapped out." His hand moved over the panel on his desk and the volumetric display started showing various configurations as it swapped out modules and turrets.
"I see." Tanja replied a bit fascinated by the concept. "Then this ship would be something that could be used for many different purposes and if I want something different later I can simply refit it with different modules and not have to buy an entirely new ship?" She watched him alter the display rather interested in the weapons configurations, she did not like to fight but if she was out there as an independent ship she would need to protect herself.
"Exactly it is one of the features that makes the Henkei a popular design. And obviously we can customize the interior to meet the customer's needs as well. The design in fact has a space that is left unconfigured to allow the customer to use it how they see fit on the lower deck." Isao answered. "And the Corporation offers reasonable financing to our customers who need it."
She nodded in response, taking everything in and using a moment to think. "Can this ship be operated by a single individual? While I do plan on taking in a small crew, at this time I am solo, so there is only so much I can do on my own."
"Yes, the ship can be operated by a single person. Obviously that can make things a bit hectic, but then we can also offer drones as part of the customization. The EM-J4 MARI series are specifically designed for maintenance, or if you like there is the EM-J2-1a Geboku Android can be a good choice." Isao offered.
"I was unaware that you offered drones. I did not even consider that option...can you elaborate some the use of your models?" Tanja had become rather interested, drone usage had not crossed her mind before, she had always strongly considered doing the work herself but in this situation overworking herself by handling a ship alone was of no benefit.
"Well the MARI are purely designed to perform routine maintenance and repairs with little to no supervision. The EM-J2 is more versatile, it can obviously perform maintenance and repair, but it can also interact with people and learn a wide range of skills." Isao answered.
"Well if I were to get a drone of some kind then I might as well have something capable of guarding my ship while I am away. It would also help if I have something to take care of things if for whatever reason I can not, like sickness or injury. I assume that is out of the range of capability of the MARI type drones?" She looked over the display once more, taking into the ship's features. The last thing she wanted was for her adventure to be paused prematurely because she was sick, or her ship was stolen.
"The MARI can take of the ship, but it is not really equipped for security. The EM-J2 can, since its human form so it can use any item that a human can. We use some of the basic model to augment our corporate security personnel." Isao replied.
Tanja smirked at hearing that, liking the sound of that. "If it can operate at the same capacity as a humanoid then that would be very beneficial, in fact having one would be preferred. I assume though that none of this is cheap."
"Cheap is always a matter of perspective. It depends on ones perspective, and resources. But we pride ourselves of finding creative ways to help the buyer. As I mentioned earlier we have financing, we even can offer a work to own plan for clients."
"Financing might be difficult, since I do not know how much I am going to be making yet, but work to own? How would that be handled?" She asked with an interested tone.
"To put it simply. We supply you with a ship, in this case a prospector. We pay you a salary, and you earn a percentage of what you bring in ore. The higher value and quality of the ore the better the percentage is. Naturally we take care of routine maintenance, but expenses such as repairs that happen while you are working can be added to your balance. That would only happen if you were culpable." Isao said with a smile.
"I see..that sounds like a reasonable deal. The more I bring in the faster the dept it paid off as well, correct?" She smirked, obviously rather confident in her ability to get the job done.
"Exactly, we find the percentage to be a very effective motivation. Shall we see about putting together a proposal?"
"Yes a pay to own contract seems to be in my best interest." She smiled and adjusted herself in the chair just a little forward to give off a more serious impression. "So first the details of what exactly I will be purchasing."
"Exactly, so you expressed interest in the Ge-Y1-4a - "Henkei" Prospector, so we can start with that. Now do you want to keep it standard with two mining modules? And as for the weapons there is no cost for swapping with other standard ones."
"Well I suppose that would depend on where you will have me working. If it is far away I'd prefer to take a cargo module to keep trips to a minimum, but if it's close by I can handle using two of the mining modules to get things done more quickly."
"Well, you happen to be sitting in one of our largest mining operations. The Kohana Cloud is owned by the Corporation and so you would be in system unless you decide to go speculating."
"I do not have enough resources to go out and look for new claims yet. So I will stay in this sector and get used to the ship while I do some research. At that point I might be able to afford a new module on my own."
"Now as to drones, I would suggest that we equip you with a EM-J4-2a MARI and a EM-J2-1a Geboku. To help with maintaining the ship, and helping with operation."
"Both of them? Hmm I suppose that makes sense. How much are we looking at for them together? And I assume the Geboku does not come outfitted with any weapons?"
"No, the Geboku does not feature internal weapons, but there are plenty of shops where you can purchase weapons. Now, one moment. Standard version of the ship, adding the drones, and then the 10% Work to Own discount. That would come to 31,815 KS, or if you like we have a recently reclaimed Prospector from a client who defaulted. Fully serviced and operational, you could have that with the drones for 28,815 KS."
"Five grand cheaper..is there anything wrong with it, or is it just mileage?" She is a little worried about the price drop, not suspicious, but life has taught her to double check everything just to make sure.
"Strictly Standard policy ma'am. When we reclaim a ship we obviously can not sell it as new so we take 10% off price after inspecting the ship and ensuring that she is fully operational. And just as we do with a new ship sale, the ship will be fully fueled and serviced. "
"Then I have no real reason not to accept the recently reclaimed ship it will make things easier for me. Now you mentioned a customizable interior on the ship as well. Is that the standard changing of appliances and such?"
"Actually it means two things, yes. You can swap out the amenities in the galley. But it also means that the space on the lower deck near the airlock that you can use for whatever purpose you want."
"Do you have any specific designs you offer for that space,or can it be whatever you can think of?" Her tail moved around a bit eagerly as she tried to keep herself contained and professional.
"We have no specific designs since it is after all customer space. Some folks use it as a recreational area, or a fitness room. I heard of one owner who built a small lab for analyzing life forms. The ones who use it as a recreation area, normally haul passengers and want to give them something to do to pass the time. The fitness room concept is often used on Patrol ships."
"I see, so it is after market. I will handle that then. As for the amenities are they set up for prolonged living on the ship? Or did the previous owner change them?"
"The amenities are the standard ones. The galley has a walk in freezer, and a refrigerator. Non-perishables would be stored on the shelves and obviously you could store more in the hold. The life support is designed to handle up to 50 people with water and air, so you shouldn't have any problem there."
"That will work, what about the lighting though? I can not take bright light, so having adjustable or dim lighting would be appreciated." She gestured to the goggles that were currently over her eyes, the place was not so bright as to blind her but it would be agitating to keep them off.
Isao smiled, "The only maintenance expense you will have is replacing the filters to the life support. Which you can always carry spares. As for lighting, you can program the area to whatever intensity you prefer. Or allow any passengers to do so in their cabins. The computer can dim or brighten on your command."
"I see that will be useful on the trip." She paused a moment to think and then nodded "I suppose that is all for the ship next I suppose is that you mentioned someone defaulted. What will my payment schedule be like?"
"Well the person who defaulted was on a loan. Since you are going with the Work to Own, every time you drop off a load of ore, you can make a payment. Your minimum payment is 500 KS a month which is a five year contract. But find valuable ores and refine them well and you could pay that off much faster. Plus there are always other ways you can pick up money. Taking a group of passengers to another star system can make some quick cash. And of course salvage can always be lucrative."
"500KS a month sounds reasonable. I shouldn't have any real problems paying that off." She shifts again and strokes her chin. "So a percentage of what I bring back is given to me as a salary, and then I can decide if I want to pay off some of my debt of keep it and wait till next time, as long as I pay at least 500 a month?"
"Actually you receive a small salary as well as the percentage. That way if after a run that is not very productive you have some spending cash to use for shopping, going to a restaurant etc. Also you can opt to make extra payments. If you for example plan to try going somewhere to find better or exploit a business opportunity, you could opt to prepay for say three months. And then you don't have to make a payment until the fourth. Your salary comes to 10KS a day. And only is drawn while you are working here in the Kohana Cloud gathering ore."
"Interesting..your company is very generous with how it deals with those wishing to acquire a ship." She smiled she had a lot of breathing room like this and even though it wouldn't start as the greatest adventure, she would have some reliable work to do.
"It is a win-win situation. We get the ore we need with minimal expense, and you get a ship and cash in your pocket. So shall I draw up the paperwork?" Isao asked.
"Yes, please do." Tanja replied.
Isao pressed a button and several forms started being ejected from the desk. He gathered them and after ensuring that all the necessary forms were there placed the stack in front of Tanja.
"Don't let the stack intimidate you. It's not as bad is it seems. The first forms are for your reference, you do not need to sign them. They state that we have certified that the ship we are selling is 100% operation and all systems within spec. Then there is the transfer of registration form. After that there is the paperwork for the Work to Own which only one has to be signed. The rest are for your reference. Terms etc."
Tanja flipped through the first few pages since they did not require signing and then looked more closely at the rest, making sure that the details in the papers matched what they had spoken of. Once she saw that everything was in order she signed the needed documents.
Isao then signed in the places he need to. Pulled out a folder and inserted the documents into it. He then pulled up a datacard. "This is the key to your ship. Once you open it, you can program your own security system, be it a number, biometric etc."
Tanja took the key and smiled to him. "Thank you, I'll make sure to remember how nice service is here in my future endeavors."
