RP: Kennewes Offensive [Kennewes Offensive] Open War

A considerable amount of time had been spent by the Green’s 1st assault fleet reviewing the data gathered from the Kennewes Raid. Equipment on board ships had been tuned accordingly, strategies and tactics were worked out, fleet deployments were finalized, and a cohesive plan had been put into place.

This plan was finally expressed close to the start of YE-30 when the 1st Assault Fleet made its arrival at Kennewes to begin its pacification operation of the space based defenses.

The NSS Thunder Child, NSS Warrior, and NSS Stonewall, the large LHA class ships designed for landing operations, appeared 4au from Kennewes with ample space between them. The ten DD4s of the 2nd Destroyer Squadron, the Knights, were deployed in a wedge in front of the Thunder Child. They were further screened by a sphere of 20 Hary stealth gun ships from the 6th. This formation was repeated with the 3rd and 7th squadron for the NSS Warrior, and the 4th and 8th Squadron for the NSS Stonewall.

At 8 AU from Kennewes, behind the first three groups, appeared the NSS Glorie and the NSS Coalition. These two ships were screened by two lines of DD4s from the 5th and the 1st squadrons while a sphere of gunships from the 9th further protected the ships at the center. Among them were the NSS Retribution, its hull distorted and melted from weapon strikes during the raid and the NSS Vengeful which had a patchwork piece of armor recently fitted over the damaged portion of the ship instead of solid repairs due to the pressing lack of ship facilities on the Red’s side. While the Vengeful was fully equipped the Retribution still was missing most of its weapon systems that had been burned away, leaving only the ship’s spinal mounted QD.

While the DD4’s activated their interdiction fields the LHA class ships began to sweep their directed interdiction beams around them in a random pattern while the Gunships began scanning the Red’s ship formations.

In the time that the Greens took to analyze their data, the Red fleet took the time to reorganize their ships and repair. The Last Line command group(Ultima) regrouped over the planet, assuming a rear position. Along side the command group, were the Bouncers(Byakko), generating an interdiction field to protect to the planet from a close in rush.

Like before, most of the fleets(1st and 2nd Byakko Groups, All Norris groups, Both Conquest groups, and the two Bellystabber groups) assumed a patrol around the planet, idly flying over it.

The defense grid, which consisted of the 50 Red Hammer Cannons, silently orbited the planet. They resumed their position at a distance similar to where they were before the scouting fleet had moved in on them.

The rear group began projecting its interdiction beams around the forward group of green ships. They had hoped to score some easy kills on Red ships trying to jump forward to engage them but now they had to change their strategy to dominate FTL actions near the forward group. The forward group then began its own set of tricks. The DD4s massed their interdiction fields around the forward group while the LHA class ships projected their anti-interdiction beams into the red fleet, aiming for the Vampire Class escorts. With each of the three LHAs projecting 20 anti-interdiction beams more than enough anti-gravity was being produced to allow for FTL travel. As the beams sweeped across the Red fleet the DD4s began to fire their type 15 shock cannons. With the assistance from the LHAs they were able to drop their blast directly into the Red Fleet, totaling 30, 150cubic mile sized spheres of death.

Several of the Red's groups scurried as they scrambled to meet the threat upon them. However, they did not react fast enough to save several of the fleets Vampire-Class Escorts from being destroyed in the opening assault. The Last Line(Ultima) lost 5 Vampires, The Bouncers(Byakko) losing 3, The Jokers(Byakko) lost the last remaining Vampire of the group, The Loyalists(Byakko) lost 2, The Rude Awakening(Norris) lost 4, The Bootlegers(Norris) only losing 1, and The Psychos(Norris) losing a total of 5. That brought the disastrous count to 21 ships lost in the opening move of the battle.

The Reds began to recover as the untouched Conquest Battleships of the Hurricane(Conquest) and Typhoon(Conquest) began unleashing a hail of turret fire on the forward group. The Loyalists(Byakko) activated their anti-interdiction field, with that the three Norris Groups(Rude Awakening, Bootleggers, Psychos) and the 1st Belly Stabber Group(Runners) jumped from their position above Kennewes, behind the rear group outside of their interdiction field. The three groups and the Bellystabber group began charging from behind. While this would be happening, most of the Red-Hammer cannons from the opposite side of the planet would be pushing to join the other cannons moving into range of the forward group.

The forward elements of the green fleet would begin to start putting up a barrage of fire of their own, putting up a grid of deadly energy weapon discharges hurdling towards the enemy fleet while the main cannons on each DD4 prepared for a second volley. At this point raiding was no longer the goal of the Green fleet, their formations were making slight adjustments to their course to avoid as much weapons fire as possible, however they continued to move toward Kennewes itself.

To help defend itself against the incoming projectiles from conquest class battleships the DD4s began to put up a considerably amount of point defense fire from the numerous defensive guns onboard the ships, blasting apart the anti-matter slugs which would in turn impact the ship’s shields in the form of considerably less effective buckshot that could be safely absorbed by shields.

Meanwhile the rear group began turning to face its opponents while at the same time sending out a signal back to Nepleslia. Directed interdiction fields from the rear group’s LHA class ships started to sweep over the enemy group while the DD4s began putting up a barrage of energy weapon fire.

At the moment the ships were at to great a distance to cause much damage with the conventional energy beam weapons that only traveled at C, but the entire green fleet was eager to close the distance and change that.
