I had chosen the rank I did in order to complement the character's experience and make it even more of an affront to the captain when she followed orders poorly or made easy mistakes. As you can probably start to see, this character is meant to be a fallen star.
If it makes any difference to you, I'm perfectly alright with the character being demoted upon first mistake. Though I would be a little flustered over the inability to make many hasty decisions at the minimum rank, preventing one of the key character traits from shining through.
