Kyoto, Yamatai - Voters across the Yamatai Star Empire have chosen Ketsurui-Shinjuku Hanako as the next Imperial Premier following confirmation in the Senate. Taisho Hanako, the famous Gunship Princess of the Ketsurui Clan, snatched victory for her loyalist Bellflower Party over the next closest candidate, Senator Anslen Volontany (Discourse-Essia).
"Thank you, everyone," Hanako said in a simple message of gratitude after the vote was called in the Senate.
Hanako will serve as Premier, the leader of the Star Empire's civilian government, for a five year term starting immediately. She currently serves as the Taisho in charge of Star Army Personnel Command, and is responsible for directing and managing the careers of every soldier in the Star Army. Hanako is expected to continue in her current Star Army posting despite election to the premiership.
Born as an Elf on Geshrintall, Hanako was orphaned during the Great Plague of YE 08. A decade later, she was taken in by Ketsurui Yui — the leader of the Star Army of Yamatai and head of the Empire's ruling Ketsurui Clan — and began her meteoric rise through the ranks. Perhaps most famous for her heroics as a gunship captain during the two Mishhuvurthyar Wars and as a squadron commodore at the beginning of the Kuvexian War, Hanako has served the Star Army and Empire with distinction for nearly all of her adult life. Notably, Hanako has made first contact with many alien species both hostile and friendly during her career, including the Gartagens, Lorath, and Rixxikor.
Hanako successfully secured the votes of seven Imperial star systems in the Senate. Behind her, Senator Volotany of Essia trailed with four votes while Shimizu-Motoyoshi Miu (Bellflower-Jiyuu) received only one from Koukotsu.
During Senate confirmation of the vote, Senator Ketsurui Koyama (Bellflower-Jiyuu) cast her system's ballot for Hanako in rejection of her system's voters. Her move caused some small amount of contention on the Senate floor, and she defended her choice citing the thin margin of Jiyuu's popular vote plus her legal right to make the decision as a senator.
“It is the Jiyuu System’s hope that with this said, we are of a singular belief and hope that all citizens within our Empire continue ever forward in harmonious prosperity," Koyama said when making her vote.
Other systems beyond the 12 represented by currently seated senators voted, but only the Governor of Tatiana showed up to deliver a vote in the Senate. The Kodian Mayor of Gashmere City, Rike Vrak (Antixenoist-Gashmere), secured the vote of her people, whose planet is in the midst of a bloody civil war between loyal citizens of the Star Empire and terrorists who reject Empress Himiko I's rule.
