Edtoto Sivaro had been pacing quietly outside Ingrid's cabin door for a little while ago. It had been a while since their first encounter and things had been rather awkward between the two. She didn't understand at first, but as she had been learning about the culture of Yamatai, she slowly started to realize that her actions at the time were a little inappropriate. She also felt bad for not realizing how bad a position she must have put the science officer in by mocking the vocalist as her kind were so accustom to doing.
She had spent her expansive free time on the ship learning as much as she could of the culture. The language came easily once she had the program to learn it, and she was swiftly able to start researching other things. Once she came across the subject of Intimacy, she immediately felt horrible. Not to mention her realization of the... Uncomfortable position her biology put the crew in, which was why she now wore a respirator to make being in the same room as her much easier. Eventually, she worked up the courage to walk into the Cabin. "Nito Hei Blesi? Could I talk to you please?" She asked, a little too abruptly and formal to be comfortable.
Blesi Ingrid started at the sudden entrance. She was engrossed in her work and had been getting used to extensive privacy since Inukai Sayoko's injury. "Oh," she said. "Uh hello, Sivaro-san. What's on your mind?"
The lizard walked over to the chair ad sat down, seemingly in thought. She was silent for what could be a rather awkward minute, before finally starting. "I wanted to apologize for what I did during our first real meeting. While I didn't quite understand what happened, I know I probably put you in an uncomfortable position with my kinds seemingly unique ability to imitate other peoples voices. Also, I'm sorry for subjecting you to my kinds... unfortunate oral situation. I've come to realize that you and the crew as a whole aren't quite used to it as we Vekimen are, and it must also have been rather uncomfortable" She said, sighing deeply when she was done.
Caught off guard by the frank apology, Ingrid stammered, trying to come up with an appropriate response. "Well, I, uh, it's, um, Nah, it's okay, pssh." She flushed deeply, remembering the awkwardness of that interview and the moment dragged on before she regained her composure. She continued, "Edtoto, look, I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have let myself be fooled like that. It's not your fault that our biologies are so abrasive to each other."
"I was trained in every possible situation for Alien life. Part of my training was to understand fully that any sentient creature I found could be substantially different from the Vekimen in every possible way. I believe we have discovered that to be entirely true with this, and yet I allowed myself to forget. I actually did break a few rules, such as do not bring weapons near a sentient creature in any way shape or form. The Vekimen Military considers our mouths as weapons, due to what they will do to biological materials" She explained. "I read an article on a creature known as a Siren, a creature of myth I believe. Would lure sailors to their deaths with their " beautiful" voices. I can't help but feel I did something that could be seen as similar to you" She added, leaning back. "I am not trying to remove any blame you may feel for any reason as I still do not understand your doctrines, but I am explaining mine as best I can."
"That's an interesting allusion," Ingrid said. "It helps me understand what happened, that's for sure. I've always felt I'm strong willed, but, maybe not." She shivered and continued, "If that's what a sweet voice can do, I probably don't want to know what a full psionic attack could do to me. And if that's what rancid breath can do..."
Ingrid's datapad beeped at her, indicating that she was needed for duties elsewhere on the ship. She said, "Well, thanks for coming in and talking to me, Edtoto. We've still got a lot of ground to cover, I guess, but we're making progress. I need to get going." Ingrid stood up and bowed her head. "I'll talk to you again later."
Edtoto nodded, standing up. "Of course. I have little to do on a daily basis, and will provide as much information as I can without stepping on anything classified. Come by the cargo hold whenever you can, that's where I have holed up until something more permanent can be done about the more... Unpleasant aspects of my biology" She said, a tinge of a smile in her voice. She then left Ingrid to do what she had to do, going back to her "cabin". At least she got that off her chest.
