RP: YSS Eucharis [Mission 27, Part 4] The Sleeping Giant (YE 39)

THE TAG TEAM

"You really want to show these guys up Bronzi? Be a professional soldier.

Yeah, they shot down our plan when we offered it up. But they are using our plan now.

That teleport wasn't by the numbers either.

Let them figure out how to act as a team. We will lead by example."

On their way down Wazu would activate the floating flashlight-datapad he had left onboard, sending it to go check on the extra food supplies that they had planned to drop. He'd open up a channel to Natsumi,

"Ground team is away, I think you are clear to drop off the Rixx-bait."

He would then turn his attention back to his console. The combat part was practically automatic. The weapon turret was set to safe-mode, but was still auto-tracking, the turret constantly moving to give the appearance that someone was paying attention to their surroundings. Similarly the sensor on top was pointed towards the rear, while Wazu used the feed from the front sensors to keep an eye on their surroundings.

THE TAG TEAM

Bronzi got the Heirophant moving. Vectoring in. "Nah it ain't dat. Muh instincts are tinglin." he said in response to Wazu.

"Dis thing is on tha door step of da Kuvexian empire. Eventually we're gonna meet em." He said with a fine grunt as he flew the Heirophant towards the Yamataian signatures that were blinking on the Holographic HUD.

THE TAG TEAM

"Yeah, well, I decided more than a decade ago that I was not going to lose another CO because I was waiting for someone to do something. So look alive."

Once the Hierophant was on the ground, Wazu would toggle the doors for the mech's missile bay, launching one of the Sprinkle recon drones.

"Sending a drone on ahead, Video feed is on the common channel if you want to view it." He said over an open channel, before muting himself and speaking directly to Bronzi.

"... Well, if it makes you feel any better. I am not sure either side really wants to win this war. Yamatai wants an enemy to figh tas much as the Kuvexians do. However no one wants to go all in and risk everything. Also, like you said, we are on their doorstep. The probably already found this thing and decided it did not have much worth."

Machine Planet

The flash of teleporting Mindys coming from above caught Candon's attention, the Shôshô hadn't been bluffing. There was now a super VIP on site. Floating deeper in the crater from his early jump had revealed precisely nothing, just more damage from what must have been an obscenely powerful weapon of epic preposition. Nothing good could lay at the bottom of a hole that a considerably massive building could not fill.

He began a more thorough scanning with his Leader Support Pack in hopes of getting a better picture of the environment. The Gauss sniper slid down from his right shoulder and rotated into his arm, any engagements from his position would come with plenty of distance.

"Copy, Tsuguka-Heisho," he radioed to the corresponding person, "I'll wait for the infantry to take point then follow at a distance until recon is needed."

Machine Planet

Several minutes passed as the team formed up and began searching for an opening in the slagged crater/canyon. As they were looking around, a small scout drone passed overhead.

Hanako wouldn't have noticed it if her AIES did hadn't pointed it out. "Have we seen that before," she asked the team?

Meanwhile, somewhere else on the planet, Victory and Sohyun (YSS Tomoyo) brought cargo shuttle close to the surface, looking around to see if the coast was clear, and then opened an old airlock. Two security Nekovalkyrja from the Tomoyo, both wearing a Mindy armor, entered the interior of the machine planet and when they gave the signal it was clear, the cargo specialists used an anti-gravity sled to bring hundreds of expiring rations inside and then left a transmitter on top of the pile. Victory switched it on with a signal that transmitted a map of the planet and "found a food stash" and a fork icon over the food's location. They piled back into the shuttle and left. On the way out a lone robot on the surface took shots at the shuttle but there was no major damage.

Beep! "Victory to Eucharis and away team. Food bait package was delivered, over."

"Military industrial complex and wat eva?" Bronzi said watching the recon drone exit the exo suit.

He got silent thinking about it. "Ya. But eventually all things gotta end. One way or anotha. Even wars."

Bronzi's alert Klaxon went off. "Ay. Same signature as da last time..."

Bronzi then responded to Hanako on the team frequency hearing her voice inquire about the drone. "Ya, dat's affirmative. Buzzed Mr. Wazu and muh self on da first mission."

As the drone went overhead Masumi eyed it suspiciously but said nothing, letting those assigned to deal with the possible repercussions of the drone do just that. She instead brought her knees towards her chest as she let her thrusters slow a moment. She swept the drone with her sensors and looked at the frequency of the drone's energy output boosters. It could allow her to go after the target matrix of the data's source. She waited to see what her scans came back with.

YSS Eucharis - Bridge

Natsumi watched her displays, hunching over the auxiliary station, seeing the information scroll across her screens and volumetric windows. She heard the incoming call from Wazu, but then also saw that the other ship drawn into the operation had already deployed the decoy package themselves. She keyed on her comm channel and replied to Wazu,

"The YSS Tomoyo has already deployed the bait" she said, they keyed off, resting her chin in her hands. She really was no use to the ship or crew anymore. They did not want her on the away team, did not need her even aboard the ship to assist from that end. Natsumi cuffed at her eyes, wiping away the moisture building up there.

The Kohosei looked back as she spoke, his SPINE carrying his console's readouts through his brain. From his years of service, Takao had learned to observe. He could see just by her mannerism that something was odd, something was bothering her he guessed. He gave a slight frown as he went to his thoughts for a mere moment to check the weapons' readiness readouts before Takao thought out to the XO through a visual link.

"You okay, exec? You look troubled."

He chased the words with a warm sensation, one of happiness and contentedness. He was aiming to at least attempt to make her feel better.

YSS Eucharis - Bridge

With the bridge emptied off of so many personnel, there was space once again for Mehitabel to slip into the nerve center of the Eucharis. Her role on the ship was largely to stay unobtrusive until needed to fill some other role. Of which there were few she could really handle with any proficiency, most of which were on the bridge as it was. It meant from her position towards the back she was perhaps the only one to see Natsumi tear up... Fortunately, as she fumbled internally for the right answer to comforting the executive officer in an emotional moment, a clarity settled over her. Perhaps all she needed to do was be there.

"Yamashiro-taii?" she murmured softly, having lightly stepped her way over from the auxiliary console where she nested. She could guess from up close that Hitoshi-kohosei had sensed the issue as well. They would have to double-team the issue, then, Bel decided, "Are you alright?"

"Fascists gonna fascist." Wazu replied to Bronzi, "... I mean, it is more complex than that... but maybe not by much."

Wazu was busying himself with doing the appropriate soldier stuff. He should be giving out headings when speaking... but they needed a guide system for that so he was busy configuring his Planet mAPP software. Setting a location on this mechanical planet as a magnetic north, then applying bearing markers accordingly. Once those were up the map data was shared out. He'd then open up a line to Natsumi.

"Natsumi, a small drone just flew by us, bearing 212, heading east I think. I will keep it tagged on my map as long as we can see it but I was wondering if you could watch it to see where it goes?

You have the better vantage point."

Bronzi kept his heading, and kept the Heirophant from going into a tumble as best he could. "Yea. They will. But it's easier fer em to get into it when they saying they are da good guys. I don't guess that's what tha kuvies are Fixin on doin."

"Hrm. I probleh should ask em if dey need us rollin researve. Or we could follow day drone. "

Junko had her rifle trained on the drone as it passed. Didn't look hostile, in of itself. Sensor drones implied someone was watching on the other end, though. No telling who that was just yet, or what they wanted.

"Ma'am, want me to take it out?" Junko asked. She really didn't like the idea of an unknown intelligence shadowing their every move. Worse, perhaps, sizing them up for potential weaknesses. At least it didn't look Kuvexian in construction.

"No, thank you." Tsuguka answered Junko first, through subtly conflicted. "Masumi, Howard, can you tell us what that thing is doing? Is it transmitting on a detectable frequency, or something like that?... It's already seen us, but maybe we can follow it back to the source somehow..."

"Also, a planet like that sounds more like Mr.Rodia's domain. Or some kind of direct Nepleslia-Yamatai mashup." A disapproving tone... But then again, he had caught her in combat mode, not their normal spooky-polite self. "Kitten volcanos..."

"Wazu, what's your status?" Another quick change of tone. Back to the job. "Any ordnance pointing at you?"

"Well, from the data you guys gave me yesterday," Jax began, eyes scanning the drone, but being careful not to make any threatening gestures. "It's definitely scouting us out. Most likely relaying troop numbers and locations to the vanguards, who are probably using that information to form a plan of attack..."

"...Or not. Let's see what Masumi gets from her scanner."

As the others noted the drone, Noriko kept her weapons pointing outwards at everything else. It did them no good to have everyone and every gun focused on it, especially since danger could easily come from another source. Even then, she couldn't help but think about the drone of course. Hearing what they were saying, it was all too possible it was simply part of this metal world. A scout that marshaled the forces of this place to come against them at every corner. And, the other thing the winter Neko remembered hearing...

"Can it, like the combat units, detect us while in stealth? Capturing it may prove useful in preventing this," Noriko observed.

"Why do you keep calling them Vanguards?" Junko asked flatly. He'd been using that specific term an awful lot, it felt like. Maybe someone did lay down some hard terminology. Still, sounded like something out of a game.

With no kill order, Junko took her attention elsewhere. Made sure to keep an eye on the ceiling of the structure. Nothing had been up their before, but that could change. And she wanted to be ready for it.

"Nothing yet," Wazu responded, letting his sensors passively keep an eye on their surroundings. "I am hoping the ship can keep tabs on the drone that passed by. They should also be able to cover the surface if something tries to come up on us from behind as we descend into the planet."

Wazu considered who he was talking to for a moment. He should probably throw in something additional that was tactical besides 'no report'.

"... Tsuguka, is there a reason you are going with the physical melee weapons instead of the shield-based ones?"

Tan Ann Pan glanced down at the GP-12 she was carrying, equally unsure why she'd brought it along after donning her Mindy for this expedition. It didn't feel right. On the other hand, she wouldn't have left it behind without an answer to a question much as Wazu had just asked, and it hadn't crossed her mind to do so. She glanced back up at her squad, again, blinking. It was hard to think with her eyes open, but she didn't find that much of a drawback during a mission like this. There was plenty to think about, and not much to make of it.

She was less determined to resist a quip, though. In answer to Junko, she said, "To distinguish them from the rearguard."

Natsumi rubbed her eyes again, glancing at the others in the bridge. They had seen her slip, seen her weakness.

"I'm fine" she lied. She wanted to run away back to her cabin and lock herself in, away from everyone... "Everything is fine" she paused as Wazu's call came up.

"I see it" Natsumi replied to Wazu. "We're tracking" she glanced at Takao, "Lock sensors on thee probe and track, please" She tried to hunch over her station more, trying to keep Mehitabel and Taskao from seeing the look on her face.
