RP: 4th Fleet (NSN) [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the Enemy

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Hell with this, flyboy can hide if he feels like it" Sawyer said as he dropped to the ground cratering it and moving out to the location of the civilians with his AMP at the ready and his Plasma Chainguns prepped to fire. "Somebody make sure I don't get ambushed from above please." He commed out as he sprinted at the highest rate his Aggressor could achieve. He scanned everything he passed ensuring that nothing popped out next to or behind him.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Rippers in the southeast, cross section of Aoshima and Mitagi! Stop them before they reach the civilians!"

"Crabs and nekos, swarming from the buildings! Find us another route!"

"Listen up, Marines! Six Rippers and a Ravager mecha crunching your way! Coming from the northeast, ETA 10 minutes! Best get ready to hold the fort without us. Fuel and ammo low, lots of heat from their PA and now we're getting reports of gunships. Green Squadron is pulling out for re-armament, we'll be back to clear the skies. "

"Roger that, Green Six. Rita, Matteo, prepare to intercept the incoming NMX armor to the Northeast. I will cover you from above," said Phaedra, activating her wings and taking to the sky. She hovered and waited for the NMX to come into scope.

"Sergeant Volkov, I have just reminded the Admiral that we are in possession of several J2 Ichabod Combat Robots. He wishes to know if you would like them deployed to your location."

"Sending coordinates now, Drei," said Phaedra, designating a point about 100m from the terminal to the southeast.

"Jan, join up with the drones to the Southeast and take out those Rippers; I will give you command of them once they come online."

"Sarge, we got civvies on the NW road, hunkered down because the flyboy scared them. Send Matteo to get them, I'll cover him from my location."

"All Marines, hold fire on the northeast for 30 seconds. Group of 10 civilians heading your way!"

"Watch for pursuing squids to the Northwest. Sawyer, Laura, Bernhard, head to where those civilians are. Send them towards the terminal and prepare to intercept any NMX that approach.

"Once you have reached your assigned positions, keep the perimeter fluid, but do not allow any hostiles to come between you and the terminal. Fall back as necessary; I will not let any of you be thrown to the wolves."

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Intercept? Hell yeah! Fuckin' sweet!" Rita said, stepping back and slinging the HPAR across her shoulders. She took a running start and leaped off the roof of the building, hitting the ground with a loud CRASH. She ran towards the incoming NMX from the northeast, using whatever she could find for cover. She shouldered her HPAR and moved from cover to cover, advancing steadily to prevent them from coming too close to the spaceport. She fired accurate bursts of 3-5 coins to put down individual troops until she was close enough to start spraying her moneyshot in full-auto.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Did you ever sit on a couch and fall asleep with the television on? And when someone turned it off, you woke up? That exact thing had never happened to Matteo of course, but close enough things went on all the time, and this time was no different. Matteo had kept careful watch as he listened to the comm chatter from the others, when suddenly, a comforting white noise disappeared. "The hell?" he asked, confused at what that noise was in the first place. The others' complaints quickly told him just what it was. "Damn, that flyboy out of fuel or something? He's going to be a sitting duck like that, and I don't think he's made for slugging it out like we are." the marine commented.

As Phaedra gave her orders and took off, Matteo swore under his breath as Rita took off like a bat out of hell. He ran after her, easily clocking in under , keeping a good six meters back and to her left between them both so that they couldn't be taken down together so easily. 'Based off of what she did earlier, Rita's most likely to - ' Matteo's attempt at small group tactics was cut short as Rita opened up first. 'To hell with it - again.' he thought.

Matteo, further back from Rita, decided to try and flank the Rippers they were up against; they were the cheaper, shieldless planetary models, but even so, their armor was thick. The marine attempted to come in from the side before popping up to fire a bust into a Ripper that Rita had picked on first. Each time her fire slackened, Matteo's own weapon barked, covering for her.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Covering you, farm boy," Laura said to Sawyer.

"I have your rear," Bernhard added. "Didn't think you liked men's rears that much," Laura interrupted.

"Not like yours is all that great," the male medic replied.

-----------------

To the southeast, PO Motoyama and his squad had just caught the attacking Rippers in a crossfire when drop pods came crashing down into the streets, five blocks down. "Sergeant Volkov, did you just call in something about 600m from my position?" the UOC Petty Officer asked his NSMC counterpart.

"Much as I appreciate the help, we're just about to finish off these Rippers. We can get our people to the spaceport. You worry about defending it. We're UOC Peacekeepers, not some third rate mercenary group."

He fired one last missile and the surviving Ripper fell dead. The Crabs had been killed and the Nekos had fled.

-------------------

"Sergeant Volkov, groups of NMX Crabs and Neko infantry approaching from the Southwest, West, and Northwest." Drei informed Phaedra.

--------------------

Rita and Matteo's shots damaged the Ripper they'd been aiming at. But it and its comrades ducked behind debris before any more damage could be done. Towering above the power armours, even if they were 200 metres away, the Ravagers noticed the two Nepleslian Marines.

The leading Ravager spat torrents of plasma and AP rounds at Rita. Even though she had started zig-zagging away from the NMX force, her efforts were not enough to prevent hits resulting in a total loss of shields on Rita's Hostile. When her shields failed, a plasma burst burned off her Hostile's left arm and bullets ripped through her legs before Rita managed to get into one of the buildings.

The inside was a mess of debris and corpses. But there were solid concrete slabs of fallen wall laying around which made good cover.

The second Ravager noticed Matteo but, since it was blocked by its partner, seemed to wait. In reality, this Ravager was feeding Matteo's location to the Rippers which sprang up and started firing. Matteo's shields glowed with the hits it took but remained strong.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Thanks pretty medic lady" Sawyer replied as he sprinted to the last known location of the civilian group. Reaching them he turned on his speakers and said, "Follow me, I'll get you to the evac spaceport, we need to hurry though there are NMX incoming rapidly."

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Agh! FUCK!" Rita screamed as her power armor's burnt-off arm let her real arm free. She was susceptible to EMP damage now, but it also meant that she had the full use of her arm's cybernetic strength now. It wouldn't matter much in a fight like this, however, but at least she could still run. The holes in her cybernetic legs didn't seem to even slow her down, the combination of artificial muscle and pneumatic piston systems would have had to be completely obliterated to prevent her from moving. She ducked down inside the building behind a slab of fallen concrete, breathing heavily for a few moments.

Her heart raced, adrenaline pumping through her brain, and she uttered out a few choice words to her commanding officer. "Private Stenton requesting CAS on those Ravagers! Sarge and I can take care of the stragglers afterward!" She said, referring to Matteo, as she popped out of cover. She let her moneyshot lay on the top of her cover and fired a burst of fire at one of the rippers, then immediately ran out the side of the building and into the next one to find more cover, even if she had to bust through the walls to do it.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Aubrey, I'll take them! You and Laura start putting fire on those damned Ravagers!" Bernhard said, catching up to Sawyer.

After rescuing so many civilians in the space port, Bernhard had figured out how to deal with very scared people. The Peacekeepers knew what Nepleslian power armours looked like. Their civilians didn't. Even if it was stupid to stand in the open and talk slowly, he needed to calm them down and assure them that he was there to help them.

"Nepleslian Marines, folks. We're here to get you out. Follow me and whatever happens, keep making for the spaceport," the medic said to scared civilians. "Everything's gonna be okay. Gonna take you all to Nep Prime."

------------------------

Captain Ironside paced impatiently around her bridge. A couple hundred civilians loaded so far, thousands more on the move. And dozens of firefights going on beyond the perimeter of the space port. "Captain, NMX nekos have breached the wall. Gunning them down." The weapons officer was using the gravity weapons to crush the Nekos out of existence. Ironside knew that the weapons had been set to their lowest setting. At their highest, the gravity weapons would crush capital ships. She often wondered why the "colony" ship had more firepower than most capital ships.

Elsewhere, as the Nekos entered the space port through the broken walls, Navy crewmen armed with rifles and shotguns started firing. The landing ships' secondary weapons made short work of the Nekos and Crabs that managed to survive.

-------------------

When Laura saw Bernhard checking and escorting the civilians, she reluctantly turned her attention to the firefight on the northeast street. Rita had taken some damage and ducked into a building. Matteo was still on the streets, dodging fire. And Laura, with her AMP, had a perfect lane of fire.

Firing in controlled bursts, Laura fired a storm of hyper-velocity rounds at an exposed Ripper. It collapsed, still alive, until she fired her plasma chainguns as well. The Ripper stayed motionless. "Sergeant Volkov, give me permission to unload my missiles on the Ravagers!"

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Phaedra began firing precision sabot rounds from her MPR at the first Ravager as soon as it came into range. She aimed specifically at the Ravagers mono-eye ports, near the "head" in its center. With her cloaking field active, it would be difficult for the NMX to spot her. She fired an entire magazine of five rounds, taking time to aim for each one. She then dropped the spent magazine and loaded a fresh one into place.

"Sergeant Volkov, groups of NMX Crabs and Neko infantry approaching from the Southwest, West, and Northwest."

"Jan, the drones have landed, and are now under your control," said Phaedra, designating Jan as the controller.
"Displace to the West, thin out the incoming wave of Crabs and Nekos."

"Agh! FUCK!" screamed Rita.

"Shit," thought Phaedra as she saw the Ravager open fire.

"Sergeant Volkov, give me permission to unload my missiles on the Ravagers!" shouted Laura.

Phaedra smiled inwardly. She was just about to give the order herself to allow the use of the missiles before Laura beat her to it. It seemed her Marines were quite capable by themselves.

"Permission granted. Marines, I am allowing the use of DARTs. Bernhard, get those civilians to the terminal pronto and then get the hell over here! Rita, Matteo, find some cover and in the buildings nearby and fall back if you can. Laura, Sawyer, open up on those Ravagers. We need to take down the Ravagers, Priority One!

Phaedra displaced so that the NMX would have a harder time reading her position, and then fired at the second Ravager, again at the Ravager's "face", until a second magazine was empty.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Jan's voice came back over the communication system as his power armor, having stayed low to the ground while moving at high speeds, had managed to circle around to the rear of the NMX forces. Oh sure, Jan was still scared of those Ravagers, given how one had wiped out his entire squad earlier, but now he had some extra firepower on him, by way of multiple Ichabods.

"Roger Lead. Anhillating the enemy large-scale mecha."

Jan's Lancer's popped up briefly over the buildings surrounding him, followed by sending a simple command to the J2's under his control.

What followed was every single J2 leaping up, each unleashing it's full load of missiles at the Ravagers, Jan's own Lancer serving as a targeting computer. At the same time as the ichabods released their payloads, Jan rushed the ripper with his lance set to full power, aiming to stab the plasma blade into the cockpit of the monster.

"From hell's heart, I stab at thee! With the last breath of my comrades, I Take thine life!"

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Sawyer replied "Roger that Sarn't" and opened fire with his AMP sending a stream of hypervelocity rounds at one ravager and also concentrated the fire of both his plasma chainguns and a portion of his stockpile of DARTs went flying out to impact on the ravager as well.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Just get the hell out of there Rita! You're next to no good if you can't aim your rifle right! I'll draw their attention!"

The Hostile leaped up with brute strength and thruster wash several stories off the streets, two tons worth of armor and ballsy soldier smashing right through the side of a building. As soon as he landed on an office floor, Matteo immediately broke off into a sprint, floor crumbling underfoot as he dashed through cubicles, office desks and soda machines. Bright beams of Aether lanced through the building as the Rippers attempted to get a bead on him, their only guess of his location the rancorous noise of destruction he made as the suit plowed through everything in it's way.

But he had a plan. The course he had taken caused the Ravager tracking him to turn it's back on his allies. "About time you let us use miss - WHAT?! We're loaded out with F*cking DARTS against these things? Who's the idiot that gimped us?!" he hollered in anger, blasting out the side of one building and into the side of another, clearing the streets below and tumbling before running again. "Fine! I hope you got a bead on the Ravager that's after me Phaedra, I'm going to hit it with EMP missiles!" The PP Plate pulsed once as he ran, the graviton pulse smashing into the elevator door before he shouldered his way into the shaft.

Thrusters flared as he ascended up and through the heart of the building before kicking through the top floor elevator doors and landing. He listened for the Ravager. Matteo only had one shot at this; if he pulled it off right, the only thing he'd loose was his shields. The marine leaned forward and bolted forward as his sensors triangulated the Ravager's location. The suit's thrusters came to life as he burst out of the top floor of the building to give him more speed, a mere story higher than the damn monstrosity.

Streams of white came from both his calves and straight down onto the top of the Ravager that had been trying to track his erratic movements as he attempted to boost from one building to another, HPAR blazing. As Matteo heroically assaulted the Ravager from on high in an attempt to both save Rita and give Phaedra an opportunity to strike, there was but one thing in his mind right now.

'Please don't swat me out of the air like a fly!'

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Laura fired a volley 30 minimissiles at each Ravager. The swarms of minimissiles impacted against the shields, causing faint blue ripples in the air as they damaged the shields.

She kept up her plasma turrets and AMP fire on the Rippers who were trying to get a shot at Matteo.

-----------

All of Phaedra's shots impacted against the shields of the lead Ravager. More sparkles and ripples as the multiphase rounds tore away at the shields.

------------

The four Ichabods received and obeyed the command from Jan. As one, they launched 32 anti-armor missiles at the two Ravagers.

Thanks to Phaedra's and Laura's efforts, the lead Ravager's shields had been overloaded. This allowed the 16 missiles aimed at it to streak in for the kill. 8 of these were shot down by the Ravager's gatlings. The warheads struck all over the towering mecha, ripping great holes in its structure. It was obvious that the burning hulk was dead.

The other half of the Ichabod missiles streaked towards the second, undamaged Ravager. Most of the missiles were shot out of the sky or jammed by the Ravager's powerful electronic countermeasures whilst the surviving four impacted on the shields, severely reducing them.

-------------------

Jan's attack was just a fraction off from target, impaling the Ripper's neck and severing the head from the main body. The flailing Ripper was put down by one of its own team mates, bringing the number of Rippers to four.

--------------------

Sawyer's DARTs further reduced the remaining Ravager's shielding. Seeing its companion die, the Ravager targeted Sawyer's location and fired its plasma throwers at him. A couple superheated rounds impacted against Sawyer's shields but besides being slightly singed, he was alright.

Realizing that staying in its current position was dangerous, the Ravager activated its thrusters and blew off down the street, landing right in front of the spaceport, where Bernhard Greer had just exited from.

--------------------

"Oh. Shit." Bernhard ducked as the Ravager attempted to crush him underfoot. He activated his thrusters and started boosting away, spiraling upwards and crashing into the third storey of an apartment complex.

He was dazed and barely conscious when the Ravager released its entire payload of minimissiles into the apartment.

--------------------

Laura watched Bernhard's escape and crash. She saw the hailstorm of minimissiles streak and explode, engulfing Bernhard in fire. For once, she had nothing to say. Laura knew, on an academic level, she was going into shock. She could ignore Bernhard's apparent demise but on an emotional level, Laura felt her world had been turned upside down.

She'd killed many times today but as far as she knew, this was the first time someone she had known had died. Laura's underdeveloped emotional mindframe simply could not accept what her brain was repeating. Bernhard was dead.

---------------------

Matteo needn't have worried. His desperate moves, coupled with the pounding the NMX had suddenly taken, had forced the Ravager to make its advance. It had shot forwards just as he was about to strike.

Quickly catching himself, Matteo used his thrusters to get to the nearest roof from where he was able to fire down into Rippers which were attempting to retreat. A well aimed burst destroyed the leg of one Ripper and a second burst knocked out the shoulder mounted cannon of another.

----------------------

At the UOC civilian shelters, the last of the civilians had been convinced to leave under escort. The UOC soldiers fought desperately with little regard for their lives to ensure the safety of their families, friends and loved ones.

PO Motoyama radioed Phaedra, "All the civilians are heading your way, first groups ETA 10 minutes! Make sure its clear!"

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Sawyer took off at a dead sprint to where the ravager was, boosting into the air and unleashing a furious volley of fire from every weapon system he had at hand. He didn't want any of his comrades to die and wanted to save the civilians. If he was hit he'd take it and go until he was cut down before he'd allow one of his comrades to take the fire for him.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"My aim is perfectly fine, thank you!" Rita said obstinately as she leaped into the air, her thrusters kicking in while she soared upwards. She smashed through multiple layers of the building she was in until she reached the air above it, falling down to the roof of the next structure and landing on her knees. She kept running back towards her comrades, but now that she could see, she decided to draw the Ravager's fire for Matteo, like he'd done for her earlier with the Crab. She began blasting away at it with the HPAR, not trying to hit any particular part of it, just trying to blow away its shields, while zig-zagging, jumping, ducking and sliding to avoid its fire.

She was moving much faster than the Ravager was, and was getting quite far away from it now, over halfway back to the starport. She turned around and fired a pair of DARTs at the Rippers down below, then kicked off her heels activated her thrusters to jump across the street to the buildings on the opposite side of the block. If she was successful in drawing their ire, she'd focus completely on avoiding getting shot again, using whatever means necessary.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Jan Kancre was in a bit of a sticky situation now, given how he was slowed down enough that escape from the four nearby Rippers, who's friend he had just decapitated, was near impossible, and that they were surely going to injure him if he didn't act quickly.

So he acted first. With a yell, Jan detached and threw his Lancer's lance at the third closest Ripper, the heavy fusion cutter tipped polearm propelled at high speeds through the air. Jan followed this up by bull-rushing the nearest Ripper, stabbing out with the Condensed Fusion Cutter on his right arm at the armor's gut, his armored left hand unstrapping the vibrosaw knife for close-quarters combat.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

"Oh. Shit," said Bernhard.

Phaedra saw him boost suddenly into the building nearby, and then the Ravager fired a salvo of missiles into the building, engulfing him in an explosion. She glanced at his status icon on her HUD: while it still showed his armor had power, that meant little in determining his physical health. For all Phaedra knew, he could be dead from the concussion of the blast alone.

"Dammit!" she thought. She trained her target reticle on the same location as she did the previous Ravager and fired a round from her MPR.

"All the civilians are heading your way, first groups ETA 10 minutes! Make sure its clear!" said Motoyama.

"Roger that, Petty Officer," a small bit of emotional waiver evident in her voice.

"Listen up Marines. I need you to focus!" she said, her voice returning to normal. She paused to line up another shot at the Ravager's "face" and fired.

"Ravager Number Two is still active and we have the rest of the civilians incoming; ETA 10 mikes. Take that Ravager down now! Laura, as our active medical officer, as soon as that Ravager is down I want you confirm Bernhard's...status. The rest of you, return to maintaining the perimeter around the terminal; we need to get those civilians away safely."

"Let's do this Marines! We are almost out of this."

Phaedra displaced to another location and fired another round at the Ravager.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

The Ravager moved away at the last moment, preventing Matteo from hitting it point blank, but he still made up for it by cutting down a few Rippers from his vantage point before relocating. He was lucky, for now, that the Rippers hadn't used their own propulsion to close the distance; if they did, he'd still have the Push-Pull Plate to keep them at bay. If they managed to use those zesuaium blades...they'd go right through armor plate as though it wasn't there! And that wasn't even mentioning their Aether based firepower either...

Keeping wary of where the Rippers were located at, the marine backed off and away from them for the time being and targeted the Ravager from earlier. From behind the cover of a rooftop's stairwell shack, Matteo let fly a burst of missiles set for top down attack, and hammered it with full auto fire of his HPAR.

"Keep moving Rita! Don't you dare let it hit you!"

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Sawyer's barrage ate away at the Ravager's shields, firstly straining then finally overwhelming them. However, even with its shields down, the Ravager was still untouched and its thick armor shrugged off Sawyer's attacks with ease.

Being open and in the air, the Ravager wasted no time in targeting Sawyer with its entire arsenal. Its trio of gatlings and the plasma throwers opened fire on the exposed Aggressor and quickly overwhelmed its shields through sheer volume. The impact of so many hits so quickly knocked Sawyer's balance and sent him careening into the space port's third floor.

As the Marine recovered, his suit's diagnostics read out that he'd somehow escaped with minor damage to the suit and total loss of shields. Targeting systems were no longer functioning properly and the diagnostic did not know how badly off-target his aim would be if he relied on it. Worst of all, the suit was detecting active radar searching it. The Ravager was still looking for its next victim.

----------

Rita experienced similar results as the Ravager ignored the hits it was taking and continued its hunt for Sawyer's crashed suit.

----------

Jan's throw was accurate, the lance impaled one of the intact Rippers and pinned it to a brick wall. The immobile Ripper tried frantically to free itself but, when it realized that it was not the target of a follow-up attack, began to fire at Jan's AIR2.

A 50mm gauss round smashed into the sidewalk where Jan had just been as he charged a second Ripper. His suit registered aether streams being absorbed by the shields and increasing the external temperature of the suit.

The Ripper deflected the hit from the Condensed Fusion Cutter with its left arm's armored buckler and as Jan made to swing with the vibrosaw, the Ripper counter-attacked. The Ripper punched him to the ground and pump aether fire into him at point blank, straining his shields. It then grabbed both of Jan's hands and tossed him against the concrete exterior of an apartment, causing a large dent.

Swiftly, it followed him and swung its zesuaium blade at Jan. The Marine barely managed to dodge the attack by taking to the air when he got light up by aether fire and 50mm gauss rounds, reducing his shields to 8%.

---------------

With its shields down, the Ravager suffered its first significant damage as Phaedra's first shot tore apart its optical and targeting systems, leaving the NMX blind, save for its sensors. Her second shot was off target and impacted into the road.

----------------

Laura Romero remained silent. She wanted to go now but at the same time, she was too terrified to see Bernhard's mangled corpse.

"Private Romero, it is quite possible that Private Greer is in need of immediate medical attention. His suit is still functioning, indicating that the part of it that deals with uplinks is still powered. Though any information from the suit is gibberish, likely due to physical damage," Drei said over the radio to Phaedra and Laura.

Laura hesitated, unsure if she ought to cling to this new hope. "...Sergeant, I need... I need someone to watch my back while I treat him," she said shakily to Phaedra. In truth, she didn't need anyone but she was just too scared to face the prospect of Bernhard's death alone.

Unsteadily, Laura aimed her AMP and plasma turrets at the Ravager and fired. Her shots ripped apart more armor plating, exposing an unarmored section in its side.

-----------------

The DARTs from Matteo's Hostile impacted near the unshielded, unarmored hole. For a moment, the Ravager paused in its movement. Then just as quickly, began twitching like an athlete with awful cramps.

His HPAR rounds were less well concentrated, chipping away at the Ravager's formidable armor. However, it was no longer firing back and appeared at its most vulnerable thus far.

Re: [Mission 3.2] When a Plan Makes First Contact With the E

Sawyer looked at his diagnostics and muttered "well hayl I din't 'spect that to even turn out as well as it did. May as well test how screwed my targeting systems are." With that he started trying to reboot his armor's shielding and running his own self contained targeting program to try to at least have some accuracy as he moved to a window facing the ravager and opened fire with all weapons he had before shifting to a new position hopefully before the mech could return fire.
