In the mean time, the AIES in Renko and Isuzu's armors had been analyzing whatever sensor data could be obtained. They had already flagged the engineering section as potentially dangerous to enter, due to it being a radiation source, and because Renko and Isuzu might damage something and cause further deterioration of the engines.

They had also noted that the bridge was indeed being supplied with emergency power.

As far as the sensors could tell, there was not really any significant pockets of air left aboard the pirate ship.

~Right then. To the bridge.~

Ren turned and checked her bit's, making sure they went ahead in the new direction, before advancing in the direction of the bridge herself.

*There should be a bank of lifts at the end of this hallway,* Isuzu relayed, sending Ren a copy of the schematic she was reading; a Bellystabber was structurally almost identical to a Yui, though it was obvious that the pirate vessel was of lesser build quality.

One of the similarities stuck her as significant, however: the lift tubes were of the same design as Star Army ships, which made them a perfect controlled access point. Unwanted visitors could be sealed in the lift car and jettisoned from the ship using the ship-to-ship transfer function- assuming there was still power to operate them.

It would probably be safer to pass through an access panel between decks, but a Mindy might not fit through one of those. They'd just have to be extra careful. *So are you a Combat Arm?* Isuzu guessed. Ren seemed a little embarrassed by her less than stellar navigational suggestions, but they were easy mistakes to make if you didn't spend most of your time studying the innards of starships, like Isuzu did.

~Yes. I was trained infantry but managed to get this sweet job by some stroke of luck. I've always enjoyed a bit of sparing, but I don't really like hurting people that much.~

Ren walked in the direction indicated as she spoke. Gesturing to the lift doors as the came into view.

~What say you we ignore the lift and just cut our way through? The local host may be booby tapped to eject the lift if unauthorized persons try to use it. ~

Taping lightly on the wall Ren attempted to judge how sturdy they were and if her forearm Aether blades would be very effective against it. Pressing hard with her fingers Ren attempted to dent, or rend, the wall.

Isuzu cringed slightly, though her armor didn't show it. *No need to go that far. We might be able to find a hole in the upper hull big enough to enter through, or at least send a drone through to scout the area. After that, I can teleport us in.*

The wall was not budging under pressure from Renko's fingers. However, her AIES informed her via visual display that she could probably cut through any material around her with her forearm energy blades. From her map display, she could tell that she and Isuzu were in the cargo bay, directly below the bridge.

Meanwhile, Isuzu's AIES helpfully pointed out an access tube to her, again via visual display. The access tube was just beyond a wall in the cargo bay, and could be accessed by cutting through the wall. The tube should lead directly to the Bellystabber's bridge. It would most likely be a very tight fit for them, however.

In addition, her AIES reported that there was an 85% chance that a sizable hole was blown in the hull in the vicinity of the bridge when the ship was destroyed, if she was interested in entering the bridge from outside the ship.

~So what do you think? Should i cut our way up? Go through the access tube? Or do you have another idea?

Ren recalled her bits until a decision could be made.

*I think we should try getting in from the outside before we start cutting anything,* Isuzu replied. Opening her composite model of the ships in a comm channel, she highlighted several likely points of entry.

Ren shrugs and sighs audibly before turning back the way they had come.

~Well it looks like were going back outside. Might as well get going.~

*Sasaki-Shosa did say we should take as long as we needed,* Isuzu pointed out- though, in reality, they hadn't wasted more than a couple of minutes investigating the cargo bay. Ren probably just wanted her first 'real' mission to go well.

Absently, Isuzu wondered if Ren had already gotten the, 'Every job is important, even the boring ones,' speech. *So why did you join the military?* the Neko asked, following the other solider to the hull breach they'd entered through.

~I wanted to see the galaxy. Do good. I don't know...To be honest I had to get away from home. Nothing is farther than deep space.~

Ren stepped out of the rend in the side of the ship and reoriented herself to put down to the hull so she wouldn't make herself disoriented. Walking around to where the bridge should be she kept the bit's out looking for a good entry point.

~My family is kind of large. I have two brothers and an overbearing dad. The family farm is to be passed down to my eldest brother, and my younger brother and I are kind of...well, extra. My mother was trying to marry me off and I couldn't take it anymore. So I signed up and followed my dream to go to the stars. Except that originally I wanted to own my own ship. I try to think of this as my first step towards that goal.~

Isuzu peered quizzically at the Yamataian's back. *Wouldn't it have been better to go into starship operations, if you were planning on eventually owning your own ship?* she asked.

~Probably...but one must also know every position in a ship from the bottom up. I figured start at the lowest level and work my way up. By the time I make Capitan I'll be at about the point i could retire. I hear there are a few independent company's out there and most of them prefer military veteran's so here I am. When i retire from here I'll join one of those crews and earn enough to get my own small ship and then the hard part starts.~

Ren kept the bits out looking for a likely entry point until they found one of sufficient size, or one that could be enlarged to accommodate.

*The 'hard part,' eh?* Isuzu successfully resisted the urge to inject a double-helping of sarcasm into her response. She'd heard that the Warmaster worlds were proud of their defense network, but it was still a little... surreal, to realize that there were some people who weren't worried that the empire might actually lose the war.

~Well ya. Making a living like that isn't going to be easy. Especially for a newly started transport company. Did you know that most fail within the first year? But when I have my own ship I can go anywhere in the empire and see all the sights I only dreamed of when I was a child.~

Ren gestured to a hole she had found.

~There...you think we should widen it or is it big enough?~

*It's big enough; I can teleport us in, once we know that it's safe and not full of debris.* Isuzu indicated her TP backpack. *I'm guessing you haven't had a chance to use one of these yet?* Back at Jiyuu, the 5th XF was busy replenishing their forces after the fall of Taiie, so Isuzu and her sisters had gotten a chance to train with some of the newer toys that Ketsurui Zaibatsu had cooked up for the Mindy, though it seemed that might not be the case for the recruits at Fort Ready.

(OOC: There; now it's explained why Isuzu knows about the new junk on the Mindies while esteemed first officer doesn't ^_^;...)

~Right then! I'll scout it with bit's.~ Being true to her word Ren sent in a dozen bit's and scouted the area for debris or things that would get in the way of the transport.

The “top” side of the Bellystabber ship was much more extensively damaged. It appeared that most of the debris exited the hull through the top side when the engines blew. Thus, it was fairly easy to locate a suitable entry point into the bridge.

The small drones quickly entered the bridge and began generating sensor data, which the AIES collected and analyzed. The AIES then spit out a terse report for Renko and Isuzu:

AIES said:
Air pressure: 0 atmospheres
Crew status: no survivors
Power status: minimal power from auxiliary engine only
Debris: minimal

As the gash in the hull looked large enough to fit through, Isuzu decided to save the charge in her teleporter. With a nod to her comrade, the Neko moved cautiously through the opening, one forearm shield in front of her. Verifying visually that the area was secure, Isuzu floated over to the nearest operational computer terminal and began checking for traps, failsafes and anything else that might impede access, before finally interfacing it with her armor's AIES to start scouring ship's computer for information.

Following her comrade in Ren allowed Isuzu to deal with the computers while she began to assess the damage to the bridge. After confirming that it was about trashed she began to deal with the floating garbage and body's by securing it all in the lift.

~I had basic Mindy use training. I haven't had training with anything new 'tho.~
