Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Hai." Rin accessed the controls at her engine, and altered the coolant to ten percent of maximum. Now it was just another waiting game.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Oi, Nobody thought to pick up Nimura?" Kai Roared over the comms, too late now for himself to do anything about it, but rather angry that nobody else hod done it, especially since there had been others closer to the sprite than he was.

Still, his two plasma rifles fired off, angrily throwing the fourth state of matter at the armor pilot's enemies, as he made his way out of the hangar to the relative safety of open space. If only we could bust a hole in the wall for Nimura to come through... Kai thought, not liking the idea of leaving anyone behind unless they were already dead, and Nimura certainly was not.

"Somebody hit the wall with something big! we need a gap to let Nimura through and to help Coax the Mishhumachina closer in with!" the Yamatain Heisho ordered, not quite remembering who had what in the heat of the moment.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou continued to rain fire back at the machina following them. "Oi, bozo with the big guns, that's your job. Make our slower friend a new entrance!" She cycled another set of grenades through her RGL, reasoning that even if one wasn't going to kill it, it had to run out of shield eventually.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Roger that, Taisa!" Nyton replied to Kotori as he messaged Tom and Ichigo to hold at their position.

Code:
Hold tight here. The Taisa is about to make her attack run. Stay alert for enemy forces using teleportation module assisted hit and run strikes on our rear. They can still attempt to attack us out here and have already performed such maneuvers on the team inside.

With that established he quickly checked over the Armor team's link to verify positions. Due to not having his cybernetic implants such as eyes and 360 vision he could not open as many windows as he would have liked but did the best he could.

Code:
DANGER! Team member Nimura has been left behind by the other team members and is currently being attacked by enemy designated as Mishhumachina.
reported Telemachus, giving Nyton a small tactical map showing her location, distance, and enemies.

While this was going on Nyton also listened to comm chatter and found himself growing angry at the lack of cohesive thought being put out. "Armor team, this is Claymere-Taii. The Taisa ordered you to lure the enemy to the hangar. Those of you still inside spread out to the walls and ceiling INSIDE the hangar while continuing to fire at will. Keep the Mishhumachina distracted and IN PLACE. At this point the best chance at rescue we may have is to just try and coax the second enemy target out to the hangar. Escaping out of the hangar will only make them suspect an attack from outside is about to occur. Cease efforts to rescue Nimura until after the Taisa has eliminated the enemy in the hangar. Currently the distance is too great and the walls are too thick to blow a hole through. The sooner we kill these two the sooner we can attempt a rescue but move FAST! I'm going to attempt to jam the enemy sensors and blind them to give you a better chance at luring them." were the orders put out by Nyton.

At that time Nyton began initializing his Ichigeki Electronics “Blackout” Countermeasures Suite to attempt to scramble the Mishhumachina's sensors and prevent them from becoming alerted to what was going on outside and possibly give them a little more time. The system having been worked into AIES would not affect them seeing as it was originating from a friendly source rather than an enemy. Hopefully it would reduce the effectiveness of the enemy's system somewhat to give the others more time to draw the enemy in.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Eiko did as ordered, adjusting coolant to 10 percent. She then waited for further instruction.

------

Tom continued his scan of the area, trying to find possible weak points in their position that the enemy could strike from. Knowing that their enemy could teleport anywhere made that tactic difficult, however.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Whatever was missing would have to wait.

After reading Yuzuki's message, Yukari took a deep breath, held it for a few seconds, then slowly let it go.

"Heisho," she said. "You will not have much shielding. Yuzuki-san has told me she must eliminate most of our protection in order to match the Takumi's speed. You will have only Hoshi's shielding. Please put all shields fore, and prepare to manually angle them if required."

"Provide enough power to reach 75 percent of Hoshi's optimal shield output," Yukari told Yuzuki. "Closely monitor the PSC and our interdiction capability; do not let either fail under any circumstance."

Yukari was tempted to shut off the damage diagram in the corner of her visor-filtered view of space. She did not want to watch the outer oval of shielding, representing Miharu's output, disappear and be replaced by Hoshi's much smaller oval. Ignoring it meant putting one more thing on Miyoko's back, so she left it there.

The red brackets representing where the Takumi was only got brighter.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Doshii Jun said:
"What are we missing?"
"No use second-guessing now. I suspect we'll find out firsthand soon enough..." Miyoko commented tiredly. The constant attentiveness that the battle required was starting to wear on her. Her earlier elation, albeit partially caused by injuries in the first place, had faded, leaving her simply tired and sore all over, not to mention tense. She pulled what little shields the ship had left up to full fore, then readied two torpedoes as requested.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Masako gritted her teeth at the mistake she had made. It would probably be a mistake she would berate herself for a while after this mission; if they lived past this mission. The small Neko listened to Kai, sound off an order just as she received a message from Nyton. Apparently, they were about to receive reinforcements.

"Against the wall, Opposite the enemy," she barked her orders over the communication channel. Of course, she wouldn't be the first to the bulkhead, but Masako was slowly moving back as she fired another stream of plasma bolts at the Mishhumachina. Once the rest of her team was to the wall though, she would rush back against it.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher slammed up against the wall and settled down. He made a quick weapons check while he waited for the next order to come in. Even though Kai said to assist, he saved his ammo. In that moment, he realized that the only person who'd likely be able to help Nimura was the Taisa, and Nimura herself. So, why waste satisfying rounds on a wall?

Eh, she's got a back-up. The Hei shrugged his shoulders boredly as he continued to survey his surroundings. Yet again, he lacked emotional capacity to be bothered by the deaths of others.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Miharu:

The two minutes Yukari had given Yuzuki to prepare the Combined Field Systems to perform at slightly more than 150% capacity were almost up. Miharu was darting toward the still distant Takumi at 9000c.

A small volumetric notice window opened up amongst the Shosa's display: the Takumi was hailing them via realtime hyperspace communication.

* * *

@Amaya's Gate:

The four remaining Black Knights retreated to the outer walls of the hangar, closer to its breached doors, as the first Mishhumachina came in.

Plasma discharges flared over the artificial mishhuvurthyar, striking shy of its armored 'skin' as its barrier field held under the combined onslaught. A multitude of tentacles rose to bring their pincer-shaped ends toward them. Power cracked between those pincers as it prepared to unleash its aetheric beams.

The Blue Rift, below Amaya's Gate, cast a bluish haze of light over the hangar, shining over the metal-gray ceiling and then casting diffused blueish light via the reflection. That illumination was suddenly cut, scissored through by the shadow of the Ryusei II fighter-bomber as it hovered down into firing position.

"Brace!" The Taisa transmitted, and all four Daisy armors in the hangar huddled close to the walls.

The mishhumachina was quick. The time Kotori took to warn Masako's team, it used to lance the fighter-bomber's protective energy field with a focused 30 aether beam assault, with its dorsal gattling cannons and eyebeam lasers joining in.

The Ryusei II's protection held, but only briefly. The mishhumachina's aether weapons were at a disadvantage, but the Ryusei II shared an equal handicap - the tech crews had not been able to find the time to optimize its operation within the Blue Rift expanse. Several of the cutting beams found the fighter-bomber's port wings and bored through the armor, prematurely detonating the mini-missiles housed there.

A second later, the fighter-bomber's whole port wing flaked away into a prodigious explosion that sent a surprised Nyton, Tom and Ichigo cartwheeling away, momentarily out of control. The craft itself shuddered and seemed to lean into a recoil itself - the twisted framework remains of its port wing glowing red hot from the ammo explosion - but Kotori forced the vehicle back under control with alacrity using its Continuum Distorsion Drive to return it into firing position.

Her riposte left the Mishhumachina no means to fight back: the damaged fighter-bomber opened its port internal launch bay to loose four missiles in rapid succession that plowed into the Mishhumachina. With its shielding drastically weakened by the Masako's group earlier attack, the enemy mecha was torn asunder, large smoldering pieces of it being tossed back into the rear cargo area of the hangar, plowing into cargo crates and scything into a forklift.

The explosions jostled the Daisy power armors inside the hangar, but since they were already bracing, the shockwaves didn't leave them much worse for it.

The second mishhumachina burst into the hangar shortly after the first mishhumachina's explosion had settled down, its large form cutting through the rising haze of smoke with speed that belied its size. Its remaining pair of eyes glinted redly as they cast tracing targeting lasers around until they locked over the Ryusei II's canopy.

As it got into attack posture, Kotori said over the team's channel: "I need its shields compromised and protection from its missiles!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

She thought it over in her head; the sprite knew exactly where to run. She knew just how quickly the solenoids would open up, and just how quickly she'd burn to a crisp if she so much as faltered and tripped. Nao steeled herself for what was to come. "This." Her fingers moved, starting the process. "Won't." The pilot solenoids began opening. "KILL ME!" Nao's feet hammered against the floor as she fled out of the room. Her skin tight AMES seared against her skin despite it's designed resistance to heat; the very air Nao breathed seemed to boil away her sweat and sear her throat. The bulkhead slammed closed behind the sprite, as she slipped on the melting sole of her boot. As she landed, the heat suddenly dropped off. Nao laid on her chest, and groaned in pain.

The AMES was a lovely suit, bot practical and beautiful in design. It showed the curves of the user's shapely body, and yet protected her from all manners of hazards. However, it was skin tight. It clung to Nao's skin and burned her as it began to grow soft. She got up on unsteady legs, and stumbled down the hall as her skin screamed at her.

Code:
The pilot solenoids, they're all open now. I'm a bit burned, but I think I'll be alright. Further orders Yuzuki?

-Nao

As she slowly walked away from the source of heat, nursing her wounds, the suit cooled and contracted a little. Nao noticed she wasn't sweating anymore for some reason, and the humming of the CFS units faded as the distance between them grew. It was replaced by another sound. Hissing. Nao's suit was hissing.

"Shhhhit." she hissed back at the breech.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yukari swore. "She is trying to hail us," she said, breaking the silence with a rushed flow of words carried with barely an ounce of breath.

She paused for a second or so, staring into the infinite space of her visor. Then, she swore again, sharper and louder.

Yukari rejected the hailing. "Heisho-san, calculate a position to fold us to," Yukari said. "I want Miharu 1.55 AU away from the Takumi."

"All CFS units on hot standby," she said in Yamataian through the shipwide comm. "Be strong, everyone."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The sound of four CFS units momentarily breaking the reins roared through the subdeck.

For several moments, Yuzuki-heisho fought furiously with the controls to restore normal operation, throttling the fuel with the freed-up valves and solonoids. When she finally succeeded, and all the engines were on more or less the same page, she allowed herself a brief sigh and moment of peace. The humming was less kittenlike, now that the automatic limitations were off. They were astral dragons loosed from heaven.

Code:
The CFS units are now at one hundred percent output, Shosa. Two-hundred percent output, on your mark.

And, that having been said, she also sent;

Code:
'Rin, Eiko, Nao. Watch closely for any trouble with your equipment. We're doing something new and it might not work properly. Look for a general decrease in power output that doesn't match with the assembly's speed. It might also show up as a sudden temperature decrease. If either of those things happens, report it immediately.'

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

It took Miyoko a second to figure out just which 'she' Yukari meant, at which point she almost swore along with the XO. She hurriedly calculated a new position, putting the Miharu a safe distance from the Takumi while keeping it close enough to support the power armor teams.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As the Black Knights recovered from the latest shockwave, Nyton started barking orders over the Black Knights' comm channel: "You heard the Taisa everyone! Break through the barrier and focus on the sensor arrays. Stop it's missiles from hitting the Taisa!"

"Gunshin-hei, I want a volley of Subspace Missiles now," Masako telepathically ordered, fleshing out Nyton's commands. "Westwood-Hei, take out its last pair of eyes once the barrier collapses. Everyone else - stand by for missile suppression fire and ready missile avoidance counter-measures." The petite nekovalkyrja wing leader for her part released one of her drones to scout out Nimura's present predictament.

"Hai, Heisho." Kyou complied with her superiors orders, firing off a small volley of her shield-collapsing missiles. While she could've timed her next attack with the collapse of the mishhumachina's, she instead backpedaled, her rifle held at the ready.

"Roga' that, fuckin' up the selected target!" Asher responded with gusto as Kyou attacked. He pulled up his Gauss Bazooka and locked himself in a ready stance, then letting loose two rounds from his Bazooka.

Kyou's subspace detonator warheads struck and misted away the mishhumachina's shielding, allowing for Asher's two gauss rounds to zip past the energy protection unopposed to impact hard against the front of the enemy machine. With twin deafening impacts, the twin eyebeam assembly left to the mishhumachina was shattered to raining debris, cutting off the laser tracers from the Ryusei II's pilot canopy.

The artificial mishhuvurthyar was left recoiling from the Malifarian's attack, allowing the unmolested Ryusei II to get a missile lock on it first. The second internal bay opened, releasing another four-missile volley that also connected with the mechanized horror. The second mishhumachina was destroyed, its explosion also scattering debris into the back of the hangar.

As for Masako's drone, it did not have far to go. As the second mishhumachina was destroyed, it left room for the third mishhumachina make its entry. Within the grasp of four of its pincers was the power armored Nimura, stretched out almost past tolerance of the M6 Daisy's flesh insert. Another four tentacles were poised behind Nimura, hammering at her vulnerable back with heavy NSP fire that - slowly but steadily - had blasted open the dorsal armor and were now in the process of piercing through the much more vulnerable hemosynthetic layer.

* * *

In her cockpit, Kotori clenched her jaw in frustration. There was no way she could loose her remaining mini-missiles on the third mishhumachina while it held Nimura in the way like that... and the sprite obviously did not have very long left to live. She had beam cannons, but those wouldn't get across the the mishhumachina's barrier fast enough. Neither would the power armors - especially not while trying to do surgical attacks - too much could go wrong while Nimura was being held hostage like that.

What she needed was a powerful enough projectile to breach the barrier in one hit and total the mishhumachina while leaving Nimura safe, and the only thing that applied to that was...

"Get out of the way!" the Taisa yelled as she pushed the throttle forward, causing the fighter-bomber to accelerate into the hangar bay. One moment the Ryusei II was hovering outside, and the next the craft was clashing nosefirst into the mishhumachina's main body with a shriek of metal, scything through its underbelly and tentacle cluster supports.

Nimura was freed from suddenly limp tentacles and fell to the hangar's floor like a rag doll. The yukata-clad Kotori, for her part, escaped her Ryusei II in the nick of time by popping her canopy and flying out before the collision, eventually landing in a crouch upside-down over the hangar's ceiling.

Both massive machines grinded against each other, the Mishhumachina twisting about, its remaining tentacles flailing at it resisted, but the Ryusei's still accelerating engines eventually won the struggle, driving the both of them to crash at the end of the hangar. The Mishhumachina's plasma weaponry breached, causing it to explode and in turn cook off the remaining ammunition of the Ryusei II for an even greater explosion.

Kotori flattened herself over the ceiling, gritting her teeth as she used one of the yukata's sleeves to shield her eyes. Eventually, the blast subsided, and the only thing that vied with Blue Rift's luminous haze was the raging inferno at the end of the hangar. Amidst tangles of metallic tentacles, Nimura dry-heaving could be heard over the comm channel, her power armor's back a frayed tangle of hemosynthetic muscle fibers.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Masako gritted her teeth as the Ryusei and Mishhumachina exploded at the far end of the hanger bay, maneuvering her tactical drones away from it before they could be consumed by the destruction.

"Defensive Perimeter," she ordered telepathically. "Westwood-hei and Gunshin-hei guard the port corridor. Nakamura-heisho to the starboard corridor," the Warrant Officer continued as she set her drones to Overwatch and cover the hanger interior.

Flying over to Nimura, the young Neko grimaced at the damage. "Get that shuttle in here," she sent the encrypted, burst transmission to Mara. "We need to get Nimura out of here." she continued before broadcasting to all the Powered Armor. "We'll take turns rearming, but keep your guard up. We don't know when and where those Black Mindy will show up again."

At this point, the Warrant Officer because to survey the hanger for any sign of the Taisa. Luckily, she would find the Officer on the ceiling. Masako didn't speak a word as she used her inertial flight to propel herself up to the Taisa with her Plasma Rifle ready to defend her Captain and her sensors on active.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Hai, Heisho." Kyou moved over to the corridor, staying in the hanger for now at least. She popped a drone out, and stuck it more or less in the middle of the entryway, setting it to actively scan for any movement down the hallway. "Anything moves, I vote we blow it up, Westwood-Hei."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Amaya's Gate:

Just as Mara was easing her Fox shuttle back inside the hangar, Nimura struggled to get up, and Ichigo was quick to get to her side to assist her twin up. After looking her over, Ichigo turned her helmeted head over to where Masako stood upside-down and pleaded: "Kurohoshi-Juni, please don't take Nimura out of the fight. I'm sure she can still-"

Firmly, Nimura shoved her sister aside and sluggishly started making her way over to the shuttle. "The Juni is right," she projected telepathically. "My unit's power plant and SPINE interface were destroyed."

Meanwhile, Kotori had shoved one hand in her yukata's pockets to produce her communicator which she flipped open. She tapped through the frequency used to control the Uriko drones - one which she had instructed not be jammed, and then spoke: "Yukari? Sorry, I wrecked your Ryusei II. I was just making sure you knew I was al-"

The Taisa then abruptly distanced the communicator from her cat-shaped ear, giving a wince before tentatively holding it in front of her mouth to say: "Gomen! I'll be more careful, I promise!"

Kotori closed the communicator. "Whoa, scary," she commented before shoving it back in her bathrobe's pocket.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Hai, Kurohoshi Juni." kai answered, boosting his way over to the starboard corridor, stowing on of his twin plasma rifles in the process and replacing his shield, to be better prepared to defend if need be. Man, I'm glad that worked out. I'd hate to see what would have happened if we'd screwed up... the yamataian thought, scanning the corridor for signs of enemies, and sending out his drones to scout. He was tempted to have them do a sensor ping and give him a more detailed view of the hallway, but that would probably give away their position and get them destroyed really quick.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Irresponsible, reckless, disdainful!" Yukari snarled as she hit the fold drive, sending Miharu 1.55 AU from their target.

"That is the last time I trust the Taisa with such equipment!" She added as the ship came out of fold. Miyoko knew to activate the interdiction field and immediately did so.

Yukari hit the CFS, drawing on the first unit as told to by Yuzuki. Miharu propelled itself backwards, nose toward the Takumi, matching its speed.
