Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Amaya's Gate:

Lacking the concentration to maintain her skin-stealth, Kotori appeared into view between the paralyzed Black Knights and the Mishhumachina.

Pants of hoarse breathing whistled out from her grit teeth. Her soiled yukata's sleeves were rolled up, and bruises could be seen purpling her pale skin - the small capillaries in her eyes had burst, turning the whites of her eyes light red instead. Her posture was hunched, her effort great enough to make it seem like her limbs were leaden.

"The Signaler!" Amaya realized. "But you told me you killed her!"

"I did! I ran her through myself!" Meni shot back.

"Maybe they respawned her?" Mani suggested.

"That's impossible!" Amaya barked at the two others. "Damn! Kill her quickly, before she manages to reverse-ungh!"

"Our PSC just got overwhelmed!"

"Can't move!"

Kotori gave out a moan, part-strain and part-desperation, as she glared down at the three of them. The Akuma and the Black Mindy armors hunched forward, seemingly prey to the same paralysis that plagued the Black Knights.

The Mishhumachina was another matter. It whirred, clicked as it changed its posture, moving its free tentacle pincer weapons toward her and bending down so to target her with its eyebeams and dorsal-mounted chainguns.

The Taisa gave a pained grunt as she turned to face the mishhumachina and the artificial mishhuvurthyar spontaneously expanded. All of its pieces mechanically disjoined from each other as it grew to become a study of its inner-workings - the process went at a much faster pace than what the Black Knights were suffering from (which was probably what the kuroneko twins had expected in the first place to happen to them). Tom and Ichigo dropped down limply from the tentacles as the mechanical coils latter 'unmade' themselves.

Kotori cried out raggedly in one last spurt of effort to harness that last of the psionic potential she had on hand as Amaya was dropping her hold on her crew and the pieces of the mishhumachina - large and small - were turned into a hail of projectile which she sent over to the Akuma. The Akuma's barrier flickered from the initial small impacts, holding, but some of the mishhumachina's bigger pieces - parts of its large and resilient metal carapace - crashed into it and not even the Akuma's barrier could handily withstand that. The gargoyle-like machine flopped over to crash on its back, freeing Asher.

Asher was hardly the only one freed. The rest of the Black Knights also recovered from their paralysis, with their power armor stopping to come come apart. The AIES had no way of refastening the parts loosened and they intentionally discarded the loose plating, each shedding something like one-fourth to one-third of their total armored plating... but all were still capable of fighting.

"Please capture the Akuma," Kotori told the Black Knights as she half-fainted and collapsed to her knees, dry heaving. "It's susceptible to overheating. Take down its barrier and pour as much plasma fire over it as you can - it should shutdown. If Amaya ditches it, I need you to let her escape."

Meanwhile, a pop-sound signaled the recovery of the Akuma's barrier; it and the two Black Mindy were struggling back to their feet as well, with Amaya giving the telepathic order: "Kill the piss-eyed bitch!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

One of the Black Mindies wouldn't have the chance to even get to her feet. Masako's wrathful vengeance could not be held back now as the young Warrant Officer charged. Moving to grab the Aether Rifle with Saber function from one of them, possibly Meni, Masako lashed out with a knee to its head to discourage any attacks. If she managed to get a hold of the Aether Rifle, she would probably ignite the blade and use it to destroy the Mani's Aether Submachine Gun.

There was no stopping her now. Masako would probably ignore any damaged she received and continue attacking until either the Twins or she were dead.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Meni, thanks to her antigravity control, returned to her feet with alacrity as she and Masako struggled for the Meni's left aether saber-rifle.

While Black Mindy and Daisy were power armors evenly matched in strength, Masako's kneebash quickly ended the tug of war and rewarded her with the double-pronged bladed weapon.

Unfortunately, Masako's new acquisition was powered directly from the aether generator of Meni's power armor via a power cord, which promptly disconnected. As the Juni spun around to point the weapon at Mani and squeeze the trigger to no effect, Meni viciously counter attacked with her remaining aether saber-rifle.

In an arc of light the aether weapon swung around and scythed through Masako's abdomen, cleaving through the Daisy's protection there and deeply gutting her. Had the aether not flashfried her intestines she probably would've been disemboweled. On her HUD, her armor diagram began blinking bright-red over her lower torso.

Meanwhile, Mani took to the air and her Black Mindy grew transparent as she stealthed. Her submachinegun appeared to aim toward Kotori. The Akuma righted itself and returned to its feet, with the protruding emitter fins of the psionic amplifiers sliding back into their protective covers.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher scuttled to his feet, and away from the Akuma few meters before gaining a solid stance. Upon receiving his orders, he reached for his flamethrower, but as soon as he hand reached the grip, he spotted Mani making a forward movement. He growled, and then grabbed his Gauss Bazooka, readily aiming it. When he got a lead on her, she vanished, but figuring in speed and her direction, he kept the lead on where he thought his invisible target was. Then, with three quick pulls of his trigger, he let loose three of his anti-armor rounds on her.

"Somebody put a Sub-Space det' on tha' fuckin' thing!" Asher 'requested' his team, hoping to follow through on the Taisa's plan.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

I'm free and you're mine bitch!

Nyton immediately looked up and tracked the now stealthed Mani. Using the last known data to triangulate her location he dropped his LASR and took off at full gravimetric speed placing himself directly in between her line of fire and Kotori. His armor was weakened but his barriers had recharged during his immobility and were at full strength again. He intended to take the brunt of her fire while closing distance and grappling with her. Once he had her in his grasp the gravimetric propulsion would shut off and he would engage his plasma emitters, all four of them, to wrap around her limbs at the joints to sever them. During his charge he immediately barked out orders.

"Freeman! Ichigo! Help Kurohoshi! Nakamura! Gunshin! Close in on the Akuma! Subspace missiles to the barrier! Plasma bursts to the arms! Overheat them before she can fire!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Gauss cannon fire from Asher was not something Mani could afford to take chances with, even if she was hard to aim. Her Black Mindy zipped away to one side and then the other while trying to make strafing attacks on Miharu's Taisa, but her accuracy was poor, and Nyton superimposing himself over her target made it next to impossible for her to land a decisive attack.

In turn, her swift motions to avoid Asher's attack made her more visible to Nyton, which tremendously helped with his charge. The Super Phalanx bore in, barrier holding under the aether attacks, and he latched on to the more slender Black Mindy armor over her limbs: under the left shoulder and over the right wrist - not exactly what he wanted, but good enough!

Before he could shunt enough plasma out to damage the zesuaium armor, a concussive boom came from behind him: Meni had abandoned her fight with Masako to teleport right behind him to help her twin. Her lit aether weapon made an overhead slash that crashed through his barrier and sheared through the enlarged backpack-like back of the Super Phalanx.

With nerveless fingers, Telemachus let go of Mani as gravity lured it back toward the metal floor. Alarms sounded for Nyton as he discovered his barrier system, propulsion and - more importantly - his zero-point power tap had been crippled by the attack. Battery power would keep his life support, onboard computer, sensors and communication systems online... but the Super Phalanx felt more like a leaden armor than something he could competitively fight in now.

The Akuma, for its part, bent into an animal-like crouch and pounced over to Masako, it's claws limning themselves in aetheric energy as they raked toward the gravely wounded nekovalkyrja.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai didn't give a second thought to the Discarded, destroyed Bazooka that had fallen to the ground when he was paralyzed. Instead, the Yamataian swiftly brought one of his plasma rifles to bear, trying to get a bead on at least one of the enemies before him. at the same time, he let loose a volley of subspace and offensive mini-missiles at the Lunging Akuma, hoping to be able to bring down its shielding. From his vantage point, Kai knew he couldn't hit Meni or Mani without possibly hitting Nyton, but now that they were distracted it was the perfect moment to do something to their largest enemy that was present.

"Kurohoshi-Juni! Move!" the Heisho shouted, as his finger squeezed the trigger of his plasma rifle, the other arm swinging up to grab the second rifle, but wether Kai would fire it or hand it off to a teammate was yet to be seen.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As Asher saw Kai's mini-missiles sail across the corridor, the Hei took his attention off Meni and Mani, and switched out his Gauss Bazooka with his flamethrower. He kept his perception open, though, before he'd take the opening in the Akuma's shields, he let loose a volley of five shield/armor-piercing mini-missiles at the elbow of the arm that took a swipe at Masako. After that, he turned his attention back on the Akuma, and if it's shields were down, he was going to bath it in a fountain of fiery plasma.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As Nyton's Super Phalanx crashed facefirst to the ground, Kai's mini-missiles impacted against the Akuma's barrier shielding, collapsing it, and some warheads even punched through to leave pockmarks on the left side of the beak-shaped chestplate.

That delayed the attack on Masako somewhat giving Asher time to land his own missile volley. The Akuma's yamataium armor was thick and strong, but five missiles were still enough to significantly gouge into the elbow joint, blasting pieces of armor away and coaxing a torrent of hemosynthetic fluids to leak out. Kai's attack landed over on the shoulder armor but only seemed to deal surface damage.

More importantly, though, the impact the attacks jarred the Akuma sufficiently so that the claw it had raised to attack Masako was forced to the floor so that the machine could remain on all four rather than be knocked aside. The metal under the right claw quickly started to glow cheery-red, liquify and evaporate, even, showing it was a good thing that the Juni had not been struck by it.

When Asher stepped in and bathed the Akuma in fire, there was no initial effect to the machine save for its paintjob turning an ugly scorched black. The Akuma's fearsome visage in turn pivoted to face him and it opened its tusked maw to spew forth a gout of plasma fire at him.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Without his emotional suppressors Nyton could only shout out loud in frustration as his PHALANX limply crashed to the floor.

"Sonofabitchfuckinguselessbastards!" he growled while his mind raced for some options.

Code:
My apologies sir but I can no longer fight alongside you. Battery power is all that is left and combat is impossible in this condition. Self repair system is online and working to bring us back online.

"We'll just play cripple until we can get an opening." he told his computer before opening comm to the rest of the team.

"Westwood! Spew that flamethrower at the Akuma's forearms! Keep it hot! Freeman! Ichigo! Focus all your fire on Meni! Nakamura, Gunshin, focus on Mani! Kurohoshi, crawl your crippled ass to my LASR and support Westwood! Move people, we're not done yet!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yuzuki's hands were already at a CFS unit, after the Shosa ordered her to be ready to give the units precious units of fresh coolant. She was taking over for Nao, who was being repaired, and she was controlling the others at the same time.

"Everyone, be ready to cool your CFS units as much as you can. Configure them for combat use; expect high shield damage."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Seeing the Takumi apparently disabled was an encouraging sight for Miyoko, but she wasn't about to celebrate just yet. Still, it distracted her for just a moment. Yukari's order snapped her out of staring at the sensor feed to make sure the ship was disabled. "Hai." Readying a second torpedo took just a moment, and she threw together the firing coordinates as quickly as she could, then sent it streaking on its destructive way.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Hai," came the reply from Rin. Her hand hovered over the controls for allowing more coolant to the CFS unit while her other was over the controls for switching the priorities of the CFS unit, namely switching from speed to shields.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@YSS Miharu:

The transphasic aether torpedo shot out of the rollbar launcher in a streak that instantly - to all appearances - engulfed the Takumi in a shortlived ball of white fire.

Once it faded away, Hinoto's ears drooped. "Minor damage to their outer armor. The overlap is gone, but it looks like the emitter fins are still under their armored covers."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai could tell that Nyton was not only out of the battle due to the damage to his unit, but also starting to crack mentally under the stress, as he suddenly issued an order that conflicted with what had been just going on a bit. The normally cool, calm, and calculating Nyton was getting desperate. Regardless of whether Kai had a better chance of damaging the Akuma or one of the Mindies at the moment, He followed his orders wordlessly, knowing that there might be conflicts coming up soon if the officer continued to unravel.

Firing off more mini-missiles at the Akuma, almost as an afterthought, kai turned and pointed the twin plasma rifles he held at Mani and Unleashed dual streams of superheated plasma destruction towards his enemy.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yukari swore. "Heisho, load up two more torpedoes and prime the main gun! Hinoto-san, find me a weakness, NOW!"

She jammed the ship forward, thumb over the volumetric switch to activate the anti-FTL the moment she had to do so. "Yuzuki-san, status?"

"CFS units have returned to normal levels, but we have no remaining spare coolant," Yuzuki replied.

"Do not let the units fail under any circumstances," was Yukari's only reply, useless as it was.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Aw, baby, I knew y'wanted me! said Asher to the pilot of the Mecha unit. He used his thrusters to blast himself quickly to the side of the arm he had recently exposed open, trying to avoid the plasma flame. As he moved, he let loose three mini-missiles, all aimed at the Akuma's exposed fire-spouting mouth.

He figured, with the exposed innards, it would be more susceptible to his flames. Either way, he had been ordered to keep up the fire, and so he did, pouring the flames into the opened area of the Akuma's arm.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Pain lanced through her stomach, yet she didn't care. All she did was turn to the armor that attacked her. However, her assailant had already disappeared, teleporting behind Nyton to disable him. With both Black Mindies out of her reach, the Warrant Officer turned towards the lunging Akuma. It was a surprise, but not as surprising as Asher coming to her defense.

Taking this chance, Masako actually maneuvered around Asher in the hopes of getting around to the Akuma's flank. The blade in her hands may not have been able to be powered, but it was still had a zesuaium blade to it. In an effort to aid Asher, Masako took the blade and attempted to ram it up the armpit of the Akuma and directly vertical so she didn't kill the occupant.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

By the time Sanjuro was able to see Nao, he was already checking to make sure his two nurses had properly set up the young neko's IV and had her properly sedated. The doctor's stone-faced gaze fell upon the excessive burns on Nao's back and grimaced slightly. Treating burns was one of his least favorite procedures, but it was also one that he took the most care in making sure the methods of treatment are performed correctly. Nao's burns were particularly gruesome; parts of Nao's AMES suit had melted and fused with the very flesh. Sanjuro's stoic grimace remained unphased, despite the grim appearance of the afflicted areas.

Nao said:
"Yuzuki ordered...me here. Please." Nao looked to Ayumu, eyes pleading. "Just a quick patch, so. So I can get back to the engines."

Sanjuro's eyes narrowed a bit at Nao's plea for a 'quick fix' to her condition. The doctor had to hold himself back from verbally reprimanding the neko for thinking should would be able to leave in such a condition. As Sanjuro sterilized his hands and readied his set of surgical equipment, he gave Nao a reply in his usual flat tone. "I'm afraid your job will have to wait; you are in no position to work in your condition."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou complied with the orders she was given, deciding Nyton probably had a better idea of what was going on then she did. To that end, she launched a pair of subspace missiles at Mani and Meni (each) for good measure before getting the best shot she could on Mani, and unloading at her, trying to draw attention off of the injured squad members.
