Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton was under the impression that Kotori took advantage of the surplus in the deep puddle of hemosynthetic blood to drink from it.

She righted herself and silently lowered her bathrobe to bare her shoulders so Asher could apply a cupped gauntlet filled with HS fluids to the gash-wound on her shoulder.

Kotori's face was red smeared, with her cheek looking better as its muscular structure appeared to have been mostly reconstructed. "Can someone fetch me Amaya's clothing so I have rags to wipe myself off?" she telepathically asked, before adding more to Nyton: "Oh, have everyone - except Sigurd, whom I want to stay here - return to the shuttle and prepare for departure ASAP. Once I've cleaned myself some, I'll board the Akuma and we'll get going."

This said, Kotori plunged her face back into the HS puddle (which had since filled up some).

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher applied a little more blood to Kotori's wounds before shaking the blood off his his hand, spattering it over the floor. He stood, rubbing the remainder of the hemosynthetic matter on his legs, then thumbing back to the hangar.

"I got it." said Asher jogging off a few yards then hopping in the air, once airborne, he blasted down the corridor with his thrusters. He wasn't exactly sure which part he enjoyed the most about unnecessarily speeding down a hallway like that, but it was a thrill each time he did it. As he reached the entrance to the hangar bay again, he swerved, and flew in, cutting the throttle as he straightened out. Flying through the air by momentum alone, he gave a puff of fusion thrust to stop himself and land with a clunk next to Amaya's dead body.

"Hey there sweet heart, eh heh." said the Malifarian suavely. "I like the tank!" He knelt down and grabbed the fabric of Amaya's upper-garments, while placing a foot on her torso. He stood and pulled, ripping the tank from her. "Think I'll take it..." With that done, he turned towards her pants unbuttoning them and pulling them off as well.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Roger that Taisa." Nyton replied as he stood up to allow Kotori to wallow in the hemosynthetic fluid. Whether drank or immersed, he did not think it made much difference either way.

"All Black Knights prepare to depart. Freeman, give me a hand in carrying our dead back to the shuttle. Westwood, once you have delivered Amaya's garments to the Taisa follow us out. Sigurd, the Taisa wants you to report to her location. Begin making your way here and assist her in final preparations." Nyton then radioed out to the other members.

"We will be standing by for your signal, your highness." Nyton said before standing up. "Be sure you'll be more presentable for our meeting with Eve. Let's not disappoint her little princess." he said with a grin as he hefted the saber rifle.

With a lazy swing Nyton deliberately slashed through Mani's corpse one final time before walking over to pick up Kai's body.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher, now with Amaya's pants and shirt in his arms and panties secured tightly over his helmet, was ready to move out. He kicked off the ground with his thrusters and blasted back into the corridor, pitching into the hallway. When he returned to the Taisa and Taii, he cut his thrusters as he did before and stopped his free-flying momentum with another blast from the fusion pack.

"Somebody orda' some rags?" said Asher, landing with a loud clank. He stepped over to the Taisa and presented the garments to her in a respectable fashion.

...Well, as respectable as you can be with a dead woman's panties on your head.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Thank you." Kotori raised her face and accepted the proffered garments, immediately using them to sponge her face.

The Taisa used her tongue to experimentally probe the left side of her mouth. After she had sponged her face with the tanktop, her damaged cheek appeared covered in crusting scabs - but this much was a good sign as her skin would be properly protected as it healed underneath.

Continuing to briskly towel herself, Kotori spoke aloud: "Taii, we don't have the luxury of bringing our dead back. The Fox shuttle does not have enough room for them."

She sighed. Being able to sponge herself helped some, but without water on hand she'd still be grimy. Resolutely, she shrugged her yukata back over her shoulders and then stood to walk toward the opened chest cavity of the Akuma.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"That may be so your highness but we are also running low on Armor as well. Nakamura's can be reused if we swap out the helmet. Besides since they're dead we can just attach them to the hull of the shuttle." Nyton stated with complete seriousness.

A quick lift and Nakamura was lifted up onto Nyton's shoulder.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"C'mon, Clayboss, y'know as well as I do that they'll just flail off, or some shit like that. Sides, by the time we get back to tha' ship, they'll be so frozen, they'll prolly snap n'crack tha' moment we try t'get'm down!" Asher explained to his superior, running his thumb across the elastic of Amaya's undergarments, keeping them tightly secured over his head.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"We have graviton beams or two of us could just volunteer to ride outside the shuttle to make room. Either way we do not just leave our dead behind like this." Nyton replied a little more tersely.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher pulled out his flame thrower and waved the barrel around in little circles. His finger seemed to itch over the trigger, resisting the urge to pull it. In the end, he settled the digit over the guard, to prevent any unintentional blasts of fire.

"I can give'm a good Red Nepleslian burial if y'like, eh heh heh heh." chuckled the pitiless Malifarian.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"I don't like it anymore than you do, but we're pressed both for time and space," Kotori said as she boarded the Akuma. "Make it work if you can quickly arrange it. If not, we'll have to come back for them later."

Kotori arranged her swordsheaths so they would not be in her way, folded her arms across her chest so that each hand rested over the opposite shoulder and placed her feet on pedals at the very base of the 'lower beak' of the Akuma's chest.

The mecha's chest closed up around her with a mechanic whine followed by an hermetic clump. As she expected, Kotori was now in fetal position, with a few volumetric displays appearing around her head much as they would inside a KFY power armor's helmet.

"Activate," she commanded Surtur.

Code:
Prepare for brainwave pattern recognition. Initiating scan.

Kotori blinked in surprise. They had employed a security measure not unlike a ST backup reader device! That was pretty excessive - few KFY power armors even bothered with them - instead just relying on the attached PANTHEON net to monitor their function.

Luckily, as her head felt the first tinges of pain from the invasive scan, Kotori snarled in concentration to counter it. Obviously she wasn't the machine's previous user and it would realize it, but more importantly, she had learned much more about her reversal ability lately: she now had better alternatives than just frying the on-board computer and ruining her chances to operate the machine.

Code:
System error. Unit forcefully reset to Administration mode. Awaiting instruction.

Good, Kotori smirked in satisfaction. Her killing her NH-23 original had been a tragedy, but at least this much good had come out from the experience...

"Change Identification-Friend-Foe transponder to the following values," Kotori fed it the transponder codes so that Miharu would register it as a friendly unit. "Add the following encrypted communication channels to onboard listing," again, she copied from her digital memory the encrypted communication frequencies Miharu used for this battle.

Code:
Tasks complete.

"Engage Mind-Machine Interface. Slave somatic control to my brainwave patterns in the same fashion as Ashigari Amaya's M3 Kylie setup. Grant me HUD for Fire Control, Navigation Control and Squad-level Communication. Have the Psionic Amplifiers standby."

Code:
MMI-links established. Slaved Mobility preferences established. HUD configured for FCS, NavCon and SquadCom. Psyker Augmentation Emitter Arrays on stand by. The administrator has control.

Kotori interfacing with Surtur and gaining command of it had actually taken a skant few seconds of telepathic back-and-forth between the onboard computer and herself. The gaygoyle-shaped mecha rose to its feet, turned around with an odd kind of feral grace before it started down the corridor at a steady 60 kph.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Man, juss' a few minutes ago I wass' stuck unda' that things foot." mentioned Asher, watching the monstrous mecha rise to life again. It made him think on how quickly a battle could change, especially in their case. Which saddened him, as it that thought made him realize that the current fight was over.

Well, he thought, taking too the air and passing the lumbering Akuma at a very quick speed, Hope tha' ship's got somethin' f'me t'kill when I get back. Othawise, I betta' start findin' a new purpose, n'quick.

He sailed on ahead, speeding quickly until he made his way into the hangar, landing at the base of their shuttle ramp. The soldier grunted, and popped his neck by throwing it to each side before peeking into the shuttle an noticing how tightly packed it already. Yet, one area took his interest specifically, the cockpit. Besides having the best view, Asher always relished a chance sit up front in a shuttle or bridge. It reminded him of the days when he flew shuttles for a decent salary back on Yamatai. So the Malifarian walked up the ramp, passing anyone already sitting in the back, stepped into the pilot's area.

"Ey there, Mara." greeted the panty-hat Malifarian, taking a seat in the co-pilots chair. In all truth, he seemed more interested in the instruments and controls of the shuttle. "Been a while since I had this kinda' view."

He'd enjoy the spot until someone with rank decided to tell him to sit in the back.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

With the Akuma gone, Tom slowly made his way over to Masako's corpse, picking it up and carrying it over to the shuttle where he deposited it. He would wait for Nyton to figure out how to transport it back to the ship, if that were even possible.

The engineer was content to take his seat inside the shuttle and stare off ahead vacantly.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou was still standing outside of the shuttle, nodding to everyone individually as they came up. She was waiting for everyone who was coming to get aboard, since she'd had a bit more time to rest then them. I hope everyone back on the ship is okay. even if we had a hard fight, they were much more outnumbered then us...

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Not to be outdone by anyone regardless of their ability Nyton ran as fast as his PHALANX allowed him. Not having gravimetric propulsion was tiring but he made do. It was what he did. Carrying the weight of Kai as he did he kept an eye for any thing he may be able to use to secure the to a pylon on the shuttle.

By the time he arrived at the shuttle though it was already obvious just how cluttered it was. Weapons and gear, spoils of war such as the teleporters and tech samples, personnel both injured and well, were all taking up space. Even if standing room was attempted and bodies were piled uncomfortably on each other it was not feasible. With no other option left Nyton simply set Kai's body down and gave a quick salute. The living would have to take priority for now.

"Let's go everyone. Get secured in and ready to leave this place. I take it Sigurd will remain to operate the Gate then?" Nyton said over the comm link. With a heavy hidden sigh he sat down, not caring if Asher took the co-pilot seat.

Let him flirt. Right now I don't care. the Nepleslian thought. Keeping his neutral countenance was easier during combat. He could focus and direct everything into the battle. Now, even though the battle was still raging elsewhere, he had a few seconds to think a little. It was more difficult to do so when he didn't have his program loops to suppress distracting thoughts.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Miharu:

Caught in two graviton beams, invaded by Mindy II power armors that threatened the main computer and prevented the technicians in the subdeck from doing their job, and prey to most of Takumi's arsenal while not even being able to raise her shields against the enemy flagship, Miharu seemed to hover on the brink of disaster.

Restoring shields and superluminal propulsion had priority. Everything depended on Yukari regaining some mobility so she could compete in positioning with Eve's command vessel. Unfortunately, seeing Rin was the only technician free, her restoring the synchronization of the remaining 3 CFS units meant leaving the coolant leak and the unresponsive fusion reactor unattended.

While Rin worked, Miyoko continued pouring particle beam fire into the Takumi's bridge dome, finally rupturing it, which caused a satisfying decompression to announce the demise of everyone that had been on the bridge.

Miyoko took advantage of the lull from the Takumi's command structure disabled (hopefully) to then use a projected energy beam as well as the remaining dorsal turret to take out the graviton projectors that had held Miharu captive.

Yukari spun the ship around - if she could just get the rear torpedo launcher lined up, she could have a subspace detonator torpedo fired at the enemy vessel and hopefully have some time to think about what she could do to hold against the heavier cruiser.

Unfortunately, Miharu was interrupted midspin. The lower port fin fusion reactor - unresponding to commands and with no coolant lines intact to effect an emergency shutdown - went critical and exploded. Not only did this obliterate the lower fin it was housed in, but the deflagration also worked to destroy the last of the weakened supports holding the gravimetric fin to the heavily damage left wingpod.

Structural struts shuddered and snapped! The left gravimetric engines - fin and all - was severed off to spin lazily in space under the momentum given to it by the reactor's explosion.

The delay was enough for Takumi to manage another volley of weapons fire from its forward batteries. The positron bolts heavily impacted over Miharu's dorsal side and this time the energized armor wasn't sufficient to stave off the worse. The anti-matter attacks plowed through the weakened structure of the rollbar and the impact from the heavy cannon that struck last sundered the whole thing off at the base of its supports.

This brought the shattered rollbar down ram over the top of the wardroom before it burst to pieces. The sheer kinetic force brought down was too much for that part of the ship to withstand: the roofing of the wardroom bent under pressure and this caused the hermetic seals around the transparent zesuaium windowpanes to twist and bend, effectively creating many hull breached - too many for the atmospheric retention field to quickly counteract.

In an explosive decompression, both the wardroom and the extending observation deck burst open to space. The transparent zesuaium plates were first flung away; and then chairs, couches, potted plants, spatulas and wrapped chicken-salad sandwiches were sucked out into space.

Having the rollbar ripped off to then have that whole weight thrown down on top of the ship, above the bridge, was by far the harshest impact those on the bridge had ever suffered. The ship's superstructure gave a loud moan (which was a very bad sign!) before the recently fixed ventilation system its the bridge's ceiling came loose again to again crash over the command console with an equally loud clamor, along with some extra sparking wiring.

Lighting flickered, instrumentation reported that the energized armor was compromised, structural integrity down to 46%, coolant supply at 80% and dropping, and it appeared doubtful that the ship could recover enough to survive a second concentrated volley like the last - and just then, the Combined Field System came back online, having been restored Rin's handiwork having restored it nearly to 70% strength.

Miharu blurred away at lightspeed an eyeblink before twin raker turrets swept hull-cutting aether beams in the position the ship had previously occupied. Close call.

* * *

Suzume opened up on her Mindy II opponent with her LASR, but her enemy almost disdainfully held up a forearm forcefield to batter her attacks aside while it braced the opposite forearm weapon - probably charge it for a powerful beam attack.

The sprite sucked in a breath. Her Daisy's barrier would prove poor protection against that. She wouldn't be able to survive many hits like that.

The sprite launched a flurry of subspace detonator mini-missile as a counter as she continued emptying her clip against the forcefield. One SDM impact later, the shield collapsed and the Mindy tried going on the offensive by blasting Suzume with its charged shot, but the sprite luckily blocked it with her zesuaium shield.

Breathless and a little amazed to be holding her own, Suzume tried to keep firing, but her LASR ammo ran out at that point.

"Damn!" The Mindy came charging at her and both armors collided against each other in a clamor, driving Suzume's Daisy back into the wall. The Mindy made to slash her to pieces with its two forearm energy blades, but the sprite dropped her rifle and instead grappled on the mindy armor's forearms for her dear life, wresting the deadly aether swords away from her.

The enemy did not let up: its shoulder-mounted gauss cannon flipped from the back and into its armed position before swiveling to point at Suzume's helmet. Crying out, Suzume hunched her head to having it conveniently lined up for the gauss cannon before bracing one foot against the wall and pushing off while shoving her helmet forward in a heatbutt at the weapon to either damage it or have it veer off.

She missed, instead ramming into the Mindy's helmet. The blow did not appear to cause any damage, but there was the tell-tale sound of an hermetic seal coming undone. Suzume blinked in recognition and with a yell she pursued her offensive, using her Daisy's booster pack to jet both away from the wall - she needed moving room.

They slammed into the corridor's opposite wall sooner than both expected, the result being a surprised Suzume and a stunned Mindy pilot - they had not hit the wall, but rather a fircefield Miharu had created to prevent the enemy Mindy from properly bracing against the collision.

Suzume seized the brief opening by letting go of the Mindy II's forearms to instead grab on its helmet and heave it upward, hard: the headgear promptly snapped off from where the Mindy's hemosynthetic insert had it secured, revealing the bare head of a very surprised nekovalkyrja.

"Flares, point-blank!" Suzume ordered her AIES, and the Daisy's on-board computer accommodated her by shooting a counter-measure flare missile up at the chestplate of the Mindy II. Normally, flares were mostly harmless to a power armor, but the burning head was enough to burn exposed flesh - like the Mindy II pilot's unhelmeted head.

The enemy neko cried out in pain and shied away, shielding her face with her forearms. With a growl, Suzume raised her right forearm cannon toward her enemy and fired a heavy blast not at the Mindy II, or the exposed head, but at the wall behind.

The blast rocked things in the nearby medlab, but it had fortuitous results for Suzume. The enemy neko had been caught unware by the attack and had fallen down on all fours. With nothing in the way of a finishing blow, Suzume aimed her forearm cannon again and - setting it on the killing setting - killed the invader.

* * *

Junko's battle with her opponent in the subdeck was brutally brief. Both Mindy II and Daisy charged each other, with the Mindy II making a fancy aerial tumble that allowed it to make a slash in Junko's back, killing her barrier and ruining her fusion booster.

The sprite, whom had intentionally given her enemy that opening, spun around and rammed her zesuaium shield hard into the Mindy II's midsection, with enough force to shatter the torso's titanium support frame.

The Mindy II stumbled almost drunkenly and laboriously turned around - too slowly to defend against Junko's next attacks as she closed in, massively increased her M6 Daisy's effective weight with gravity control and slammed her knuckleguard-reinforced gauntlet into the Mindy's flexible flank, and then following with another shattering shield-clubbing blow on the front.

That latter attack caved in the torso armor as the Mindy II folded in two around the arm bluntly driving the zesuaium shield in.

"Raggh~!" Junko pulled the shield away from her now listless opponent, jumped aloft and again brought it down - but this time to smash it over the Mindy's helmet.

After the Mindy when down, with its helmet looking sufficiently concave to have Junko judge the pilot braindead, she contacted Suzume. "Suzume, need any help?" Junko was glad for telepathy - it allowed her to avoid showing she was panting from the exertion and the flood of adrenalin.

"I-I think I just finished mine. Please tell me that's all of them."

Junko sighed and then reported to Yukari: "Shosa, the invaders have been cleared."

@Amaya's Gate:

Mara gaped at the sight of Asher - or, more precisely, the sight of his helmet.

"Um, Asher... there's women underpants on your helmet," she pointed out in the vain hope that the panties being set over Asher's helmet had been somesort of accident.

* * *

"Yes, Sigurd will remain here, in case we need him to operate the Gate," Kotori answered Nyton.

The Akuma reached the hangar Mara's shuttle rested in and approached where it opened up into space. Kotori opened up a transmission to Miharu and said: "YSS Miharu, the Gate has been secured. Amaya is dead, we've captured an Akuma and this signaler crap works; I know how to counter burst psionic attacks."

"Miharu, we request extraction. Please arrange a brief fly-by to collect our Fox shuttle, and notify medical to haveNakamura-Heisho and Kurohoshi-Juni revived."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"I know, right?" replied Asher to Mara, lining the elastic of Amaya's underwear with his thumb. He was grinning ear to ear, proud of his accomplishment. "You'll neva' guess who they belong to."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Hinoto?" Mara hazarded a half-hearted guess as she closed the shuttle hatch (once everyone was in) and spun the nose of the Fox until it faced the exit.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"What? Naw! I didn' have that much time 'tween gettin' born and hoppin' in an armor t'raid a panty drawer." said Asher, dismissing her guess with a wave. For emphasis, he placed both index fingers on the band of the panties. "I'll give ya a hint. Her name is usually followed by tha' word, Gate."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Acknowledged, Taisa. We are on our way."

Yukari looked down at her black-spotted uniform. Spots made by sparks from the control panels had crackled and been damaged. Her gloves were the most blackened; she had lost her volumetric controls, including her visor, and had to switch to using the physical control panel in front of her. The gloves kept her hands safe, but now smelled of burnt fabric. Everything smelled burned.

The booming on the bridge had made her turn again and draw her revolver; it rested in her lap, as she was too shaken to replace it. She didn't look at the damage chart on the again-cracked main monitor, which thankfully still worked. The chart was had too much black in it.

Screams of the dead echoed in her ears, Miharu was ravaged and without much combat capability, and Takumi was far from disabled.

She wanted to shoot herself and be done with it all, but she was still commander.

"Medical personnel, begin reviving Kurohoshi-Juni and Nakamura-Heisho, as well as the other dead crewmembers. Make it your top priority. Armored personnel, rearm and resume patrols."

Yukari sent the ship toward the Gate for pick-up as quickly as possible. Takumi would be along soon.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Miharu blurred out of superluminal speed by the Gate, shields crackling as they resisted the inter-dimensional fatigue shear from being in proximity of the opened portal.

As the ship coasted in front on the breached hangar and extended its shields to protect the soon-to-emerge shuttle, Asher's words to Mara went unresponded as the sprite's eye widened at the sight of Miharu. "Wha-"

Mara had left Miharu with the ship's hull pitted at and blackened, places over it melted to a dull gray... but the YARD drones had been restoring the armor.

But now, the ship wasn't just glibly bearing its battle scars in a defiant 'I got them and they didn't get me' statement. Miharu looked truly hurt, its hull now mostly a battered pockmarked sickly gray crisscrossed with darker scorch lines. Some of those swaths where engraved deeply enough in the armor to glimpse holes that revealed the struts, supports and hemosynthetic lines of the yamataium armor.

Even more alarming was the asymmetry in the ship's silhouette. The port wingpod had exploded open and only twisted supports remained of the wing and the lower fin over on the port side. The port crew compartment had been carved into by a directed energy weapon like a fisherman would gut a fish to prepare it for consumption. The rollbar had been entirely ripped off its base, broken serrated edge of the sundered hull still glowing red with the occasional spark from broken power lines. The wardroom had even been opened to space! It wasn't supposed to be that way!

Mara bit her lower lips. Her demeanor was usually carefree, but she had not forgotten her conversation with Tom. She and the ship she represented were still willing to be destroyed for what they stood for... but Mara was still a sprite and not a quantum computer. A sense of mortality gripped uncomfortably at her chest.

Then, from her left, she saw the Akuma move. With Miharu this close, Kotori had apparently decided to pick up Masako and Kai's armored corpses herself with the mechas claws before she made a running start and leapt into space toward the ship.

"Later Asher," Mara shook her head, now looking entirely sober. It was hard to be otherwise while looking at her ship - herself, in some way. The shuttle arrowed out of the Gate's hangar and swooped around to make its entry in the right-side armor bay - which was sliding open just in time to accommodate the T4 Fox aeroshuttle.

* * *

Kotori realized that going to the bridge and staying inside the Akuma to take advantage of its psionic amplifiers was going to be an impossibility.

With that in consideration, she briefly entered the same armor bay as the shuttle to deposit both corpses, and then left again. The Akuma's top speed of 0.1c wasn't anywhere close to what the other power armors onboard could manage, and too slow to keep up for a ship-to-ship battle... so her only choice seemed to deposit her outside over on Miharu's hull.

The spot she chose was in just behind the main sensor dome. Between the two escape-pods-turned-into-fusion-reactors was a convenient nook Surtur was able to latch through with its claws while its inertial control used Miharu's armor there as its center of gravity.

"Yukari, I'm here. Give me a short situation report. Where do we stand in the battle thus far?"

* * *

In the meantime, perhaps because of the damage to its bridge, Takumi seemed in no great hurry to go after Miharu. It moved at low sublight speed, still 10 light seconds away from the Gate's portal. Its shields were up, and the psionic amplifiers were deployed.
