OOC Naming 5th XF Ships

Doshii Jun

Perpetual player
Retired Staff
I've got something that all 5th players can get in on:

As you'll notice in the 5th Handbook -- something I'll get started on updating this week -- much of our fleet is unnamed. We've got registries, which is good, but names for all of the ships would be nice, neh?

Will, Lin and I could name all the ships ourselves, especially Will. However, this isn't the fleet of GMs.

The way it works:

1. Check out the handbook's section on FLEET RESOURCES.

2. Run down through the list of ships without names. Pick out maybe 5 or 8 -- When I get lists from people, I'll update this post with those that are taken. Speed helps here!

3. Name them (in Japanese). They don't have to be single words, and they don't have to carry significance in particular. If it sounds cool, it should be okay, but bug me or Will if you're not sure on a word.

Caution here -- we're not translating words into Japanese for you. We can, however, translate cool-sounding words from Japanese into English, to ensure they're okay to use.

4. Send them to me via PM or YIM if it's convenient. I'll compile them and update them each night new information arrives.

That's it! Easy. Just remember, it's up to you guys.

Neat idea, and if any of you guys need to translate something into (or out of) japanese, check out this site: http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html

Very good translation site.

edit: just as a fyi if anyone wanted to try it, translating russian is a bitch. Have to figure out the pronuciation as well. not fun.

Very good translation site.

Totally SWEET. Thanks Vesper!

This site is also available. Thanks Fred.

On second thought --

After reviewing a bit more SA history, I've realized there are enough ships named in English to allow a few of those. So go ahead and throw some English names in too.

Command Group: Led by the YSS Akuro, the command group is comprised of the most powerful vessels the 5th has at its disposal. These vessels act as both command centers and training grounds for officers and enlisted both. It is also home to the famed 17th Power Armor wing, Kasairyuu (in detail below). The Star Fortress, Taiie no Iori, is separate from the group.

Planetary Group: Formerly attached to the Command Group, these ships were cut out to form their own group. The Asari provides homes for the families of Geshrin, Nepleslians, Yamataians and other races, while the Sousei and Rena work to help colonize Taiie IV. The landing ships act as transports for the colonies to keep the star fleet's transports open to supply the ships (time was put into them to improve their systems and clean up the inside).

Forward Scout Group (3 Yui 4g Stealth Recon-Scout Destroyers): "Hell's Warriors." Older ships with seasoned crews, the Forward Scouts are used as short-range exploration vessels when not on point for sorties and battles. Their commanders, nicknamed the Pit Lords, are recognized task masters by their crews. However, the ships are among the best-run in the fleet.

YD-534 YSS Aramusha (Daredevil, was YSS Yasuko)
YD-535 YSS Kagemusha (Shadow warrior)

Scout Pool (25 Nozomi/Yui 6 Scout Ships): For the missions that are not based on firepower, scouts are used. These can be diplomatic, mediator, reconisance and the like. The first nine vessels represent the aspirations of their crews. The newest addition, the Yukika, has gained noteriety for being sent to examine a virtual Mishhu war fleet by itself.

ISFC Group 1: Never fully replentished after their excursions in Ayenee and the Taiie System, the ISFCs are no longer the secondary tools of force they once were, especially after the addition of the scout and gunship pools. After Shosa Yoshike's separatists were defeated, the ISFCs were relegated to colony protection. However, they also serve as minature war academies for the colonists, who train within the ISFC in the hopes of one day severing the group entirely into its own wing.
ISFC Group 1 acts as the main protector of Taiie IV. They maintain their own scout pool and usually run operations on their own, unless directed otherwise by 5th XF Command. The two Ayame cruisers in Group 1 were renamed after the names of the cities on Yamatai where many of the colonists hailed from.

ISFC Group 2: Never fully replentished after their excursions in Ayenee and the Taiie System, the ISFCs are no longer the secondary tools of force they once were, especially after the addition of the scout and gunship pools. After Shosa Yoshike's separatists were defeated, the ISFCs were relegated to colony protection. However, they also serve as minature war academies for the colonists, who train within the ISFCs in the hopes of one day severing the group entirely into its own wing.
ISFC Group 2 is the smaller of the two groups and is the primary training ground for the colonists who wish to serve in the Star Army. Corvettes are the active classrooms, with some graduating to the scouts. The cruiser recently began reconfiguration into the officer academy.
