Naming the Worlds of Yamatai

Currently Yamatai is in possession of a number of barely-inhabited star systems with unimpressive names like "UX-10" and "HX-2." If these systems are eventually going to be places to RP with interesting stuff on them, I'd like to start renaming them to more appealing names. In particular, I've got my eye on the planets in the Ketsurui Military Sector area that are now serviced by the new PAINT transportation system.

So I'm putting a call out to Yamatai's players: If you've ever wanted to name a star system, now's a great chance!

Also, if you've got a flag idea for the system you name, I'd like to hear that too.

Well I was thinking of a Star System, It may not be that good but it was something I have been thinking about:

Sakura no me (eye of the cherry blossom). I just love the name of it

Maybe we could name the Industrial Worlds (UX-15,16,17) of Ketsurui something relating to what is mined/produced there, ostensibly something metal-related. Or UX-17 in particular mines water too, but also has the Sunrise Station of Origin Industries, so maybe a name related to either of those themes.

As a followup, maybe the worlds of UX 15 & 16 could have minig terms names like Motherlode, Bonanza, Trove, Quarry, Ingot, or Vein. UX 17 could be Wellspring.

Which system would this fit?

Summing up my ideas so far:

UX-15, UX-16, UX-17, UX-22: Industrial & mining systems... should have fitting terms like Motherlode, Bonanza, Trove, Quarry, Ingot, or Vein. (UX 17 could be Wellspring, too, with liquid resources)

UX-10 I: & UX-11 IX: These worlds have Bisen Lighthouses orbiting in their star system (UX-11 has ruins, too). Maybe then a fancy lighthouse term like Astragal, Argand, Beacon, Daymark, Fresnel, Isophase, Racon. Any of the names could also work for another world that has one and needs a name currently, which is like ALL the UX 1~11 systems (see SSS Bisen Lighthouse deployment list)

UX-8 I: Water world, radioactive too... makes me think of perhaps Cask, because images of nuclear waste dumped in ocean.

UX-9: Dense atmosphere, volcanic... maybe Brimstone? Anything rather hellish could do.

UX-12 : This is a Scrapyard, but when you read about it it sounds a lot like something in real world the Air Force has in the desert called the "Boneyard". I think it would be a fitting moniker there.

UX-13 I: High gravity world, hot, no vegetation, hmm... sounds like it could have a nickname of the "Pressure Cooker" amongst the Fort Ready trainees living there. Though maybe it could be Ballast, or Forge -- relevant if you make the cut (or are dead weight) for the Star Army!

UX-25 IV: Moss and algae infested planet. Makes me think of swampy... maybe Mire (double meaning, since a crashed ship is stuck there in the muck).

(you can pick any ones you like if you think they are okay, @Wes)

I think UX-12 should be named Niflheim or Folkvangr, owing to the fact that it's not just a scrapyard-- but instead a resting place for scuttled warships that've given up years of service to the Empire. I also think that more Norse or Japanese names should be applied to these planets. Sure, Nepleslian citizens bring their culture to Yamatai, but I don't think so much so that the languages and customs of the Yamataians and Ralteans are forgotten. That said, these named would be bomb as hell for a Nepleslian colony.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the Norse link for Yamatai names... thanks for the remind. I will try to come up with some more in theme, then? That being said, Folkvangr would be a nifty name for the scrapyard and definitely gets my vote.

UX-12: I dunno, I think you overestimate the reverence we have for these old ships. Most of the ones there were produced by the millions, didn't have names, and didn't actually serve that long (in the big picture). We've even let Freespacers loot some. Also we've been calling it Scrapyard as a nickname for something like 5 years now, so I think I'll just make the name its actual system name. The norse-inspired names are good suggestions, though, and they can likely be used elsewhere.

UX-13 I: I'm thinking about changing the name from Forge to Warforge. Thoughts?

UX-25 IV: Here's me seeing if NASA will help me. I don't think suits are needed, but I'm not 100% sure. Figured I should ask some experts. Mire sounds decent, although I wonder if we can do better.

that's roughly 60% of our atmospheric pressure or basically the density at 4500 feet above sea level.

I was putting some more thought into the planet naming, and the idea to go Norse on them. Here are some musings along that line of thought in no particular order:

UX-25 IV: Fensalir. This is the place the goddess of wisdom and wife of Odin Frigg dwelled, could ironically be the name of the ship bured there too.

UX-9: Muspelheim. The firey land, also possibly Surtr or Sinmara for its legendary rulers.

UX-8 I: Aegir, king of sea giants and roiling under the waters. Possibly the great serpent Jormagandr as well.

UX-10: Niflheim? It is cold there...

UX-11: Niflungar, race of mist people, since there are ruins here?

Perhaps the group of industrial worlds could take the name of famous dwarves such as Fafnir, Otr, Reginn, Andvari, Alberich.

I've renamed UX-25 in honor of Monty Oum, who recently died. It will be named the Oum system from now on and I plan to put some cool stuff there.

I wonder, if we got an Oum system, should we also name a system for Nemoy, who passed recently? Maybe this could establish a precedent of some kind for honorary naming. :)
