Nekovalkyrja Serial Number System

Because I have no life, and Gallant inspired me, I am forced to ask: How exactly are Nekos numbered? Obviously they receive one (for quality control at least). As there seems to be a lack of information available, and Wes (or anyone really) feel free to correct me if there is (I'm human, I make mistakes), I'd like to propose a method for numbering nekovalkyrja.

  • Requirements
  • Model #
  • Location Produced (numerical?)
  • Date Produced (yymmdd?)
  • Hour Produced (since nekos can be produced at a rate of ~250 per hour this matters)
  • Serial Number(1-250 (Hexadecimal?))

Using the above criteria you would be able to create uniquely numbered nekovalkyrja. The biggest issue, right now anyway, is the numbering for the locations that nekos can be produced at. I don't exactly know how many different locations there are that can produce nekos. Eitherway, here is a sample SN using the above criteria, the neko in question was produced today at 10am, and is the 167th neko in her batch.

NH29-0A-30073010-A7

edit: here is an image of the barcode i made via a barcode maker thingy (http://www.terryburton.co.uk/barcodewriter/generator/) I used Code 39 as the template

After thinking and talking with Gallant, I realized we'd need designations for Nekos that were upgraded on ships (i.e. yamataian --> neko while on ship) or sprites as well, so below are two proposed naming conventions for those as well:

  • Requirements
  • Model
  • Sprite Designation
  • Ship Designation
  • Date of Birth (YYMMDDHH)
  • Number

So an example....let's use the Miharu for example (NJ-X1-00) and a sprite:

NH29-SPRT-NJX100-30073010-06

And let's pretend Yoroko upgraded to an NH-29H body while aboard the Miharu as well:

NH29H-NJX1000-30073010-01

Kind of thought this should be here instead of the tech forum as the first sentence was a question. Plus this could lead up to an interesting discussion.

I like to think you usually get the numbers by reading the number part of the bar-code of your favorite confectionary.

Hehe, that'd be kind of interesting. Though I can't imagine that Yamataian technicians go to the local store pick up a candy bar and use those numbers for the nekovalkryja. Just imagine how much chocolate Yamatai would need to produce daily. *shudders* Imagine how much the dentists would make off of star army technicians.
/off topic

After talking with Toshiro though, I don't think that there should be a difference between sprite crew and non-sprite crew, at least in the barcode. Since sprites can eventually become non-sprites, I think including a sprite designation in the barcode is probably not good. Also, I'm going to rewrite this a little (in color even!). I think it might be good to include a switch to indicate if they were made at a plant, or on ship that way it's not confusing.

  • Requirements:
  • Model # (NH29, 17, MPI (mass produced Infantry (maybe?))
  • Production Switch (01: Plant, 02: Ship)
  • Plant Number/Ship Designation
  • DOB (YY(year)MM(month)DD(day)HH(hour 00-23)
  • Production # (Out of the hour) <--- In Hexadecimal

Example:
This neko was made at plant #5 on Nataria (example, I don't know plant numbers), she is the 56th (38 in hex) neko of her batch (all made in an hour) and was made 3 days ago at 5pm.

NH29-01-05 -30072817-38
Model-Switch-Plant #-DOB (YYMMDDHH)-Production #

And a neko made/upgraded on a ship tommorrow at 6am:
NH29S-02-NJX1000 -30080106-01
Model-Switch-Ship Designation-DOB (YYMMDDHH)-Production #

Thoughts? Opinions?

I know this might sound lazy, but do we really need to define how the numbers are made?

I propose:

(NAME*)
MODEL
LOCATION
DATE; SERIAL NUMBER (sequential for location and year)

*optional

Example:

Code:
NH-27 Nekovalkyrja (Samurai)
Empress Palace, Kyoto, Yamatai
July 30, YE 30; #000112
(One-hundred-twelfth NH-27 made at the Empress Palace during the year YE 30)

Here's one for Lime:
Code:
NH-29A (Sprite)
YSS Eucharis NG-X1-408
February 7, YE 30; #000001

No, as I said it's not really that important. Consistency would be great, as there are just random numbering methods now, but not horribly important. The reason I went with what I did is that Neko's are barcoded (if they were created), so
Code:
NH-27 Nekovalkyrja (Samurai)
Empress Palace, Kyoto, Yamatai
July 30, YE 30; #000112

is an awful lot to barcode. Additionally, the Hour criteria helps if for some reason there is an error in a neko, you could quickly find the other nekos made around that time and check for errors as well. (Errors could be anything, I know there usually aren't any, but there could be psychological defects that are common throughout one 'grouping' of nekos)

edit: My "That is an awful lot to barcode" statement is more talking about the fact that this information is genetically tattooed onto the neko. Players have indicated, I have no nekos with the barcode infomation that I am aware of, that this is a barcode of some kind. So I just went with what would get the most information in a barcode format. Like I said though, it isn't super important.

We could easily fit it in with a QR Code. QR has been used for a while now on the internet in conjunction with mobile phones.

Except nekos have been described with barcodes...unless technically that term refers to a black-and-white code with no distinction?

The QR code could be used for the next generation of nekos, though, without causing any retconning, right? (Next generation meaning NH-29's made after a certain date, new characters and the like, or it could mean the next breed of neko types)

After much deliberation on my part, I wanted to make sure that I was rationally thinking before responding as well as do some research first. I have to say Wes, that QR code thing is actually pretty cool!

@Mising: Well, technically the QR code is a barcode, just a 2-d barcode (normal barcodes don't hold data vertically, but data matrixes and qr codes (as well as a few others) do.) In fairness though, you are correct, nekos have been described as having traditional, 1-d barcodes.

Interesting, I was wondering about the whole neko serial number thing myself way back when and actually just made one up for my neko character's wiki profile a long time ago just for the heck of it. If any ones interested, this is how I came up with it.

Name: Yoshihara Maya
ID Number: KZ-NH29-300701-839147

As you can see, I based it off the serial number system used on the clones in the Hitman games from IO Interactive with a few alterations.
It basically works like this:

KZ = Ketsurui Zaibatsu (The creators)
NH29 = NH-29 Nekovalkyrja (The model)
300301 = January 7, YE30 (The date of creation, Jan, 7 was the actual month and day of when I first created her in real life minus the in game year of course.
839147 = Cloned Batch #83 Unit #9147 (This was suppose to be her actual unit number from the batch she was created with. I just used random numbers for this one, 83 being my year of birth and 9147 being being the last four digits of my profile name.

Just put it in a barcode format and their you have it, seems kinda neat to me...
