NEW DUDES READ HERE!

So, while this is a bit away and not necessarily the best for revisiting the idea: is it possible we can finally get some quality-of-life additions/updates to the NPG?

There are a few things that have always been talked about that are kinda scattered around the 3 or so documents helpful to new players (Creating a Character, for example) that would do really well to collapse into the NPG.

  1. A basic list of various ships available to most players and those who seek to make plots. While we shouldn't necessarily encourage new players to jump straight into running a plot, we should have the tools present to allow those who have the confidence and the focus to jump into roles or are joining plots that this information is relevant in. If necessary, maybe we could make a new page detailing various craft that's "Independent Friendly"? This would detail things like Origin's earlier mecha, the like 5-10 freemarket fighters, and the freighters/transports of Geshrinari and other competitors.
  2. A "recommended start" section. I think we have this on Creating a Character if we have it at all? Just a simple section where we enthuse the idea of making a core faction or species member over the more rare or difficult ones (such as a Freespacer, who commonly have had people misunderstand due to the lack of forereading on things like the Mecha-Druidism. I dunno how best to word this, but I think this is a section we sorely need when faced with the people who've joined in the last few months and end up burning themselves out going IMMEDIATELY for the hardest scenario characters.
  3. Add a link to the Discord / explain the importance of the chat. Some new members don't realize JUST how useful the immediate social interaction is, as well as some members aren't keen on why getting them into the community fold quickly is so important. With a site with as much reading as this, the idea that asking questions in general isn't enough. We gotta promote the idea of asking away... and then give them the direct format!
Just my thoughts on three big things. I'm sure the page could use a bit of a template/formatting update, too, but I think the NPG needs some lovin' like the wiki has been receiving overall recently.
