System 87B – Logistical Support Center – Training Facilities

Nestled in the system so dispassionately dubbed by a mere number and letter designation, the System 87B transit hub served as a backbone for NMX activity, with ships coming and going, as they hauled weapons, soldiers, food, and other supplies. As ships came, cargo was unloaded, as ships left, cargo was loaded, and among that cargo there were freshly cloned Nekovalkryja, which required just a bit of training as they learned the scope of their duties within the ranks of the NMX. With the needs of the fleet in mind, a training facility had been established for the rapid training of freshly cloned personnel in their various tasks, one of which, was 'Ration Processing'.

Aboard one of the docking stations which sat in the space of the star system, one of the training facilities had been set to begin a training course for a batch of freshly cloned units which were due to pass through before being delivered to the front lines. Nekovalkryja clad in the plain khaki uniform common to the soldiers of the fleet were herded into 'classrooms', where they were seated for the purpose of observing a training presentation.

“Honestly, I would rather be on the front than sitting here...” Mumbled a light skinned neko, with the name Aida so crudely stitched into the front of her uniform. As she sat in the presentation room, she looked to the Neko sitting beside her, leaning close to whisper; “Did you catch what this course is going to be?”

Peering sideways to the restless Aida, the olive green-skinned Neko let out a sigh as she whispered; “Ration prep. You must not have been informed, you're in the cooking profession, not line operations.”

“You can't be serious.” Mumbled Aida as she slumped in her seat. “Though, judging by that look, I figure you are.”

“I haven't learned how to joke yet, so you would be correct.” Spoke the serious-faced Neko in reply.

Aida looked genuinely bored at this point, until the lights in the room dimmed, and a series of spotlights rested upon the front of the presentation room. It seemed that the class was about to begin.

With the room lights dimmed, a Neko with skin nearly as black as coal stepped before the gathered group of Nekovalkryja. Perched upon her shoulders were plain red boards indicating her rank as a common overseer. It was a minor oddity to see a Neko in the officer ranks of the NMX, but surely enough, the one which stood before the group had carried out her duty well enough to be given an officer's rank, and a position as a teacher it seemed.

“Greetings, I am Common Overseer Sevelah, I will be handling the presentation for this class which will be instructing ration preparation. This will be your first of three courses in preparation for deployment as cooks. Do not despair, I am aware that you were all bred from the same genetic stock as I, genes designed for combatants, warriors, killers. Our enemies have NH-22 weaklings to do things such as cooking, though, our superior Mishhuvurthyar commanders will have you fill in the role, since compared to them, you are no better than a civilian model.” Spoke the instructing Overseer as she stepped behind a podium, and went about quickly organizing her presentation before beginning.

As the instructor went about preparing, Aida could not help but to frown at her future prospects. A Nekovalkryja which was likely going to be cooking other Nekovalkryja while not even seeing a bit of combat, never mind even considering a promotion in the long-run. Even in the short few weeks she had been alive, she had heard rumors of what it took to advance in rank within the NMX military. She had a strong feeling, as a cook, she was not going to end up doing anything heroic enough to be recognized, though, she figured at this point she might as well pay attention. Perhaps, just maybe, she would be able to earn a Gold-V if she served something or someone really delicious.

“This presentation will begin with a volumetric recording, prepared by one of our superiors, not only in design, but within your soon to be field of expertise. Attention forward, you may take notes.” Spoke Sevelah as she pressed a button, and a volumetric display appeared upon the presentation area, as if a large chunk of a room which did not belong had been sat in the middle of the floor. Within the central focus of the projection, was a large floating mass of tentacles, a ghastly massive skull, and a face of full on malice... a typical Mishhu.

“GREETINGS STUDENTS, I AM SLERVLATHERT, A COOK AND PRISONER HANDLING SPECIALIST. FOR THIS PRESENTATION, I WILL BE INSTRUCTING YOU ON THE PROPER HANDLING OF LIVE RATION MATERIALS FOR PROCESSING AND PREPARATION. THIS PRESENTATION WILL COVER BOTH MASS PRODUCTION METHODS, AND FIELD METHODS.” Spoke the booming telepathic voice of the Mishhu, as he floated along the panning three-dimensional display as his tentacles snatched up a long sleeveless smock, which it wrapped about it's body before the scene portrayed moved along to portraying a small supervisor's office, overlooking some sort of factory... though... there was a distinctive sound of screaming present in the background of the recording.

“WE WILL NOW COVER THE AUTOMATED PROCESS OF RATION PROCESSING.” Spoke the horrific chef as he floated to a cluster of monitors, which could be seen on the presentation in stunning volumetric clarity. In a classic display of recorded presenting, the volumetric recorder seemed to zoom in on one of the monitors, before the volumetric display as a whole changed to a scaled recording of a butchering facility.

“Shite kudasai! Īe! Kore wa shite kudasai shinaide kudasai!” Exclaimed a naked Nekovalkryja which writhed against the grasp of two white-smock clad Nekovlakryja, which seemed a lot more calm, and even detached as they held their cousin.

“FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS PRESENTATION, WE WILL FOLLOW THE PROCESSING OF A SINGLE HEAD OF LIVESTOCK FOR THE DURATION OF THE HANDLING PROCESS.” Spoke the Mishhu from before, apparently narrating the presentation at this point.

Still screaming and writhing, the featured 'star' of the presentation was then turned upside-down, and shackled to a ceiling mounted conveyor which carried her off . As she left the frame of the projection, the scene switched to the next portion of the handling process, as the writing Nekovalkryja was conveyed to the first grizzly scene, where she looked upon her distant kin from an upside-down position as she desperately struggled against bonds which held her wrists firmly.

“THERE ARE DISTINCTIVE REGULATIONS WHICH MUST BE FOLLOWED DURING THIS PORTION OF LIVESTOCK HANDLING. AT NO POINT SHOULD LIVESTOCK HANDLERS CONVERSE WITH THE LIVESTOCK, AT NO POINT SHOULD PROLONGED EYE CONTACT BE MADE WITH THE LIVESTOCK, AT NO POINT SHOULD EXCESSIVE PHYSICAL CONTACT BE MADE WITH THE LIVESTOCK OUTSIDE OF RESTRAINING THE LIVESTOCK. THESE REGUALTIONS WILL BE ENFORCED.”

Meanwhile, in the presentation hall, a series of winces crossed the audience as the Neko which the presentation was focused on had a sharp blade passed over and into her neck as sounds of gurgling left her lips as blood trickled from them, and down her quickly paling face and horrified expression.

“OBSERVE THIS PROCESS, IT IS ESENTIAL TO MAINTAINING A SERENE WORK ENVIRONMENT. WHEN SLAUGHTERING THE LIVESTOCK, ENSURE TO MAKE A SINGLE CLEAN STROKE OF THE BLADE, WHILE SEVERING MAJOR ARTERIES AS WELL AS THE AIRWAY. BOTH MUST BE SEVERED TO GUARANTEE THAT THE SLAUGHTER IS SUCCESSFUL, AS WELL AS TO SILENCE FURTHER CRIES.” Spoke the narrative, before a zoomed in replay took place before the students, along with a sensor overlay which illustrated the placement of anatomical features in a shining neon-like red, which stood out well against the blood which flowed from the livestock's neck.

“NOTE, NO PART OF LIVESTOCK IS WASTED AT ANY TIME. HEMOSYNTHETIC BLOOD IS COLLECTED FOR RESEQUENCING, TO BE USED IN MEDICAL SUPPLIES. HAIR IS HARVESTED TO BE WOVEN INTO CLOTH FOR UNIFORMS. IN FACT, IT IS LIKELY THAT YOU ARE WEARING SOME PORTION OF A LIVESTOCK'S HAIR AT THIS MOMENT.” Spoke the narrator, as the scene portrayed continued. “ON THE NOTE OF ATTIRE, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT LIVESTOCK HANDLING PERSONNEL WEAR CUT-RESISTANT GLOVES FOR THE PURPOSE OF PREVENTING THE LOSS OF DIGITS WHICH WILL REDUCE PRODUCTIVITY UNTIL REGENERATED.”

Still gurgling, the Nekovalkyrja's head was then lowered into a machine, which produced an audible 'SKINKT' as an automated blade cleanly severed the Nekovalkryja's head from the body. “AT THIS POINT, THE LIVESTOCK WHICH WE ARE FOCUSED UPON WILL UNDERGO VARIOUS PROCEDURES, EACH WITH A DIFFERING PURPOSE, AND NOT NESSESSARILY AS A WHOLE.”

Volumetric cameras followed the head down the chute which it rolled down, until landing in a bucket carried by a white-smocked Nekovlakryja, which carried the head off of the butchering floor. “USUALLY, HEADS ARE GATHERED IN BATCHES OF TEN TO A HUNDRED, DEPENDING ON THE CAPACITY OF THE SLAUGHTERING FACILITY. HEADS ARE COLLECTED SEPERATELY FOR A VERY DISTINCTIVE PURPOSE.”

Cameras followed the Neko carrying the head-in-a-bucket through the corridors of the butchering facility, before arriving in a much cleaner room, where Nekovalkryja in lab coats were seated at dozens of workstations, each of which had hanging tools connected to ceiling-connected tubes which supplied power. Sounds of powered saws could be heard, along with the sounds of bone and tissue being split as the camera panned, and observed a series of workers wrist-deep into Nekovalkryja skulls in various states of being dismantled.

“OBSERVE AS THIS LIVESTOCK'S HEAD IS PROCESSED TO HARVEST THE BRAIN AND HIGH DENSITY NERVE FIBERS. THESE MATERIALS SHOULD NEVER BE DISCARDED, FOR THE PURPOSES OF INTELLIGENCE GATHERING AND BIOLOGICAL PROCESSOR MANUFACTURING.” As the narrative spoke, the camera caught the process of a head being shaven, before a rapidly spinning saw-blade cleaved through the skull of the Nekovalkyrja, before the top of the skull was lifted off, and the brain was exposed. “WHEN CONDUCTING FIELD BUTCHERING PROCEDURES, IT WILL BE EXPECTED THAT PERSONNEL CONDUCT EACH OF THESE STEPS ON THEIR OWN. NOTE HOW THE BRAIN IS EXTRACTED...”

As details were explained, Aida watched the presentation in a mix of horror and curiosity as she watched one of her 'classmates' quickly get up from her seat and try to make it to the exit before the sound of a heave and a splash of vomit against the floor could be heard, followed by sobbing as she was escorted out of the room by the Overseer.

“THESE PORTIONS OF ANATOMY WILL BE USED FOR THE MANUFACTURING OF AUTOMATED POWER ARMOR UNITS, TORPEDOES, AND BATTLE PODS. DUE TO THESE PURPOSES NOT HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR FUTURE LINE OF SERVICE, WE WILL RETURN TO THE REMAINING MAJORITY OF OUR FOCUS.” Continued the narrative as the cameras returned to the headless Nekovalkryja livestock as she was conveyed further along the processing line. Nekovalkryja butchers stood on step-stools as they worked with impressive tools which they inserted into both ends of the Nekovlakryja's digestive tract, before at a push of a button the ends were tied off.

As the Nekovalkryja livestock moved along, a Nekovalkryja with a red-stained smock went about quickly sliding a sharp blade along the back of the dead Neko. Once her work was done, the conveyor moved the dead 'livestock' to a machine which used a set of motor driven rubber cylinders to grasp onto the ends of the Nekovalkryja, before the skin was violently ripped from the flesh, and deposited into a bin. “SKIN FROM THE LIVESTOCK IS TREATED TO REMOVE CELL MATERIAL FROM COLLOGEN, THIS PROCESS RESULTS IN THE SKIN BEING RESISTANT TO DECAY, THIS PROCEDURE IS USED TO PRODUCE LARGE QUANTITIES OF MEAT CASINGS.”

“AT THIS POINT OF PROCESSING, ORGANS ARE REMOVED FROM THE ABDOMINAL CAVITY. FORTUNATELY, DUE TO THE ENGINEERING WHICH WENT INTO THE PRODUCTION OF THIS HEAD OF LIVESTOCK, A MINIMAL QUANTITY OF ORGANS ARE PRESENT. EACH ORGAN SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE APPROPIRATELY LABELED BIN, SINCE EACH ORGAN WILL BE USED AT SOME POINT. INTESTINES ARE TREATED AND USED AS MEAT CASINGS, LIVERS ARE MINCED AND USED AS FILLER, STOMACHS ARE USED FOR EXOTIC DISH PREPARATION, EACH ORGAN HAS A PURPOSE. FURTHER EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE REGARDING SPECIES SPECIFIC ORGAN REMOVAL.” Instructed the narrator as the grizzly process continued, with sounds of audible 'squish' and 'splat' came from the bins as organs were deposited into them.

“ONCE ORGANS ARE REMOVED, THE MEAT IS TREATED WITH A STEAM BATH TO REMOVE BACTERIA, AND FLASH COOK THE MEAT TO SLOW DECAY. ONCE STEAMED, EACH HEAD OF CATTLE IS THEN INJECTED WITH A SODIUM SOLUTION, THIS SOLUTION IS USED TO FURTHER CURE THE MEAT, AND TO ADD FLAVOR. AN ELECTRICAL PULSE IS USED AT THIS POINT TO TENDERIZE THE MEAT, AND TO ENCOURAGE BLEED-OUT.” Explained the booming Mishhu voice, as each portion of the process was portrayed in high-definition three-dimensional imagery.

“WHEN ELECTRICAL STIMULATION IS COMPLETED, EACH LIVESTOCK CARCASS IS FREED FROM BEING RESTRAINED BY SEVERING THE HANDS AND FEET. HANDS ARE REMOVED FIRST, FEET ARE REMOVED SECOND, ONCE HOOKS HAVE BEEN PLACED IN THE ABDOMINAL SECTION TO ALLOW FOR THE CARCASS TO CONTINUE ALONG THE PROCESSING ROUTE. ONCE HANDS AND FEET HAVE BEEN REMOVED, EACH CARCASS IS FED INTO A DE-BONING MACHINE. THESE MACHINES HAVE BEEN MAINLY PRODUCED TO REMOVE MEAT IN A MANNER WHICH IS FIT FOR GROUND MEAT PRODUCTION. HOWEVER, SPECIALIZED MACHINES ARE AVAILABLE TO REMOVE BONE IN A CONTROLLED MANNER TO PERMIT SPECIALIZED CUT PRODUCTION.” Spoke the narrative, as grizzly sounds of meat being torn from bone sounded through the presentation room.

“ONCE THE MEAT IS REMOVED, IN CUT MEAT MASS PRODUCTION SITUATIONS, THE MEAT IS TREATED WITH SEASONINGS WHICH BOTH CURE THE MEAT, AND INCREASE THE DESIREABLE FLAVOR OF THE MEAT.” At this point, the volumetric presentation displayed a number of Nekovalkryja rubbing the meat down with ground up spices, or delivering large quantities of spices using a sort of feed nozzle from a large holding bin.

“FOR OUR PRESENTATION, OUR LIVESTOCK HAS BEEN DIVIDED IN TWO HALVES, THE OTHER HALF WHICH WAS NOT PICTURED BEING RUBBED DOWN WITH SPICES, HAS BEEN ROUTED TO THE AUTOMATED GRINDING MACHINE. THIS MACHINE HANDLES THE SPICE TREATMENT PROCESS WHILE GRINDING THE MEAT. GROUND MEAT IS THEN FED INTO CASING TUBES OR IS FORMED INTO PATTIES. CASED MEAT IS EITHER SENT TO DISTRIBUTION FOR ON-SITE COOKING, OR IS ROUTED TO THE OVEN FOR COOKING.” At this point, the projection returned to displaying the floating Mishhu, as he hovered near the oven's output section, as cooked sausage came out from it. “I ASSURE YOU, THIS SMELL IS DELICIOUS...” a tentacle wrapped around one of the cooked sausages, before shoving it into the Mishhu's mouth. “AND TASTES DELICIOUS AS WELL. THIS WONDERFUL MEAT WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO OUR TROOPS, TO KEEP THEM WELL FED IN LARGE QUANTITIES, ENSURING THAT WE WILL NOT LOSE THE WAR TO HUNGER."

With that, the projection faded, and there were a few more empty seats notable as the lighting in the room increased slightly. Aida, meanwhile, had merely kept her eyes forward, her expression one of utter neutrality... she was unsure of just how to feel. She felt both disgusted, and deeply interested, after all, it was killing, just the same as on the battlefield... right?
