Nepleslian News Network [NNN] Hate Lingers in Yamatai

NNN Headquarters, Funky City, Nepleslia

Rising nonviolent antagonism between certain elements of the Free State and Yamatai recently reached a breaking point when Yamataian officials declared war on the bounty and chartering office known as the Opportunists Social Club after the blacklisting of Yamataian agents over an undisclosed bounty.

Political analysts in Nepleslia find the move poorly planned and difficult to implement, due to the substantial number of civilians in Nepleslia and independent systems that they employ, and their integration into the Nepleslian Black market. Having several hundred offices in Nepleslian space alone, the Social Club provides training and employment to a large segment of the population that would otherwise be in organized crime, menial jobs or the military.

Thorsten Calhoun, a bounty hunter who has collected over eighty live and dead bounties under OSC contracts, had this to say:

Thorsten Calhoun said:
I am not so good with words, but I know people.

I know how they think, how they react and what words they say when they are liars. My criminal record and status as an illegal immigrant made it impossible for me to get a job in the military or police. So for a long time, I had to scrape by as a private investigator, telling grown men to which sleazy nightclubs their sex androids were sneaking off to at night. It was bad career, but I could eat and afford bullets.

Then, several months after the Freespacers are first encountered, I hear about new Social Club from friend. Run by cyborgs with heads crammed full of wires, crazy, but pay well, give you challenging but not impossible bounties and give good benefits too. When I was slashed across the head with a metal rowing paddle on Kennewes, Social Club bought me a nice Durandium plate and installed it themselves.

Strangely, I am better with words after injury, than I was before. But I do not see how you wage war on bounty office. It is like declaring Burger Store, Gun Joint or Ubermarket enemies of state, when they are inside of other country. They are declaring war not only on the people who run it, who are... crazy... but pleasant, but also customers and the workers, like me.

If Cats want to destroy good living, lets see them try. I have good bullets for them in my gun, and a good gun in my pocket.

But more than this sudden declaration of war, is the launching of attack adds on Freespacer individuals that has many critics worried. Given the total inexperience of most of the Yamataian population with the Freespacers, as anything other than as an enemy that has been kicked around the curb, repeatedly, some view the campaign as an attempt to rouse state-sponsored hate, and encouraging civilians to take matters into their own hands.

While neutral in the affairs of other nations, NNN requests that all Nepleslian citizens be wary of any Yamataians handing out racist leaflets or harassing any cyborgs or persons of Freespacer origin. Under Nepleslian law, these actions are illegal and indifference to them is a punishable offense.

This is NNN News at 11, signing off.
