Nepleslian News Network [NNN] Slavery At An All-Time Low

Funky City, Nepleslia - An estimate issued today by DIoN officials places illegal slaves within Nepleslian space at "it's lowest point since Independence".

"Since the reformation into the DIoN, police and government officials have been working around the clock to combat the once-rampant problem of slavery in our borders," stated J.Q. Grizzly, a Nepleslian Government spokesman. The latest figures show projected enslaved individuals around 1.9 million sentients, spread throughout Nepleslian space, although centered primarily in the Core. If correct, the number of illegal slaves would be down by close to 60% from just one year ago.

Albert Remington, Sector Chief of the Los Apagos Precinct on Nepleslia, had this to say about the government report: "Since the defection of the Red faction, and the subsequent war, we have been better able to effectively bring freedom to the many individuals on the black market. We couldn't have done this even a year or two ago. Under Blackman, you were lucky if you could even think of a raid on some slavers without a couple dozen bullets flying through your office door."

According to many lawmakers and enforcers, the Red faction still remains the primary proprietor for the slave market. Police and military reports show that many Red underground cells raided since the Kennewes Offensive have shown increasing signs of sentient trafficking. Last month, a Red compound on Delsauria, caught on film by one of our camera crews, showed first hand the horrors of the trade in the modern world. Surr Yurkov Voz, the leader of the raid, describes the experience.

"It was mortifying. You have Nepleslians, Nekos, even a Mishhu with all the tentacles sliced off, you have all these guys stuffed in these little cages. They all looked like hell, too. One of the Geshrin girls, you could barely tell the poor girl had a face anymore. She died maybe ten minutes after we got there. The thing that really struck me was this surgery room they had in there, all rigged up for plastic surgery and cosmetics and stuff. The compound surgeon, we caught him alive and asked him what it was. He told us 'that's where we make them pretty. You think we can sell those horrific things?' It was just awful."

Government agencies have pledged their support for the continued war on slavery, of particular note the Intelligence Pacification Group. In a statement issued by press liaison Lieutenant Fredrick Flexico, the IPG leadership has been a "strong supporter" of fighting against many illegal Red activities still taking place within Nepleslian borders, with slavery taking a priority.

"The ills to our people are manyfold with Red slavery initiatives," said Lieutenant Flexico. "The first is the simple presence of them. The Red faction is, any way you look at it, completely and totally traitorous. Any proximity of them to our population centers is pure poison. They've shown they don't care about the lives of the people, and they'll kill innocents if it suits them. The second is the slaves themselves. In many cases, they're Nepleslian citizens who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. They've been taken from their families, their friends, and their work for society, and thrown into this situation."

In other cases, they're aliens. It's in a downwards spiral now, but it wasn't long ago when Nekovalkyrja comprised many of the slaves we were able to recover. You have these dangerous war machines sitting around, in many cases having their heads rewired for subservience, and they're getting put in the hands of criminals. It also leads to strained international relations, which are already at the breaking point, thanks to the fact that some individuals are extranational, and their homes want them back as much as the families of domestically taken slaves. It puts terrible pressure on the government, the people, and all avenues of law enforcement."

Although the IPG has often been criticized as openly discriminatory against some international citizens, and Nekovalkyrja specifically, as well as their extremely harsh stance towards the Red faction and many other criminal organizations, it has certainly been effective in its operations.

The government has vowed to "continue to the end of the road", with Mr. Grizzly's conference also hinting at the possible formation of a government organization to "coordinate anti-slavery operations and get people back to their homes", as well as "getting the Navy to help put a squeeze on trafficking lanes". Naval Corps sources were unavailable for comment in regards to this claim, however.
