RP: NSS Alliance [NSS Alliance] Witch Hunt

Fay

Well-Known Member
Ally would appear before the various senior officers onboard the NSS alliance. The message she gave them all was the same but the names she used were different. “Please report to the bridge in five minutes. The Captain has ordered a planning meeting for the upcoming operation. She would stay where she was and await a response while elsewhere she was talking to the new diplomat, informing her of the upcoming meeting as well.

Wazu was waiting outside of Soreta’s room, preparing to escort her the moment she stepped out, following his orders to the letter. “Thank you Ally, Please inform them that I will be arriving with Soreta.” Ally nodded and walked off, letting her hips sway gently under the Nepleslian green skirt she had on.

Meanwhile the same Ally in the same short green skirt was sitting on the command table in the bridge, waiting for the arrivals after dismissing the support staff that were in the room and transferring all of their operations directly over to her own control systems. Her Ai brought online noise cancellation and jamming systems around the bridge, typical for meeting of the senior officers. She wasn’t expecting anyone to be bugged but wasn’t going to let down her guard because of that.

Jet blinked looking up at Ally as she gave the news of the meeting and stood up from where he was socializing with the other grunts. "Later guys" he said and headed out of the messhall. With the sound of the hardsoled boots on the metal floor he brushed his coat out behind him and continued walking toward the bridge. He'd get there soon enough and entered, giving a nod to Ally. "Looking good as usual Ally." he smirked at her and leaned up against the wall to wait.

Jack Miller was the next to enter the bridge, striding in with purpose and giving a passing nod to Jet and Ally as he took seat in his chair at the large circular table.

He turned the leather chair to face the door and waited patiently, crossing his legs and resting his clenched hands on his lap.

"Correct," the Captain replied. "it is about 3 minutes right now. I hope to hell that he shows up on time."

He cleared his throat for emphasis.

"How do you like your new ribbon? Right now it is only an image file on your personnel record, but you'll get an actual physical one soon."

"My apologies for being late," Matthew said as he entered the bridge, his breathing a bit unsteady from jogging his way to the bridge. "I hope you weren't waiting too long," he spoke as he ran his hand threw his hair before saluting to Miller and Jet. Having just returned to the ship a while ago, Matthew had only had enough time to place his bag in his quarters before receiving the message to meet up in the bridge.

"And Captain, I appreciate the comment you sent along with the ribbon," the warrant officer said. "I hope I can continue being of service," he spoke calmly before taking a seat.

When summoned, Soreta left the room immediately, and smiled; evidently, she was quite good at feigning emotion when she wanted to be. "Lead the way, Lieutenant."

Wazu made his way toward the bridge of the ship, a pronounced limp in his step now. In addition to his uniform he was again sporting a black metal cane which helped support his weight. Within a few moments they were both at the entrance to the bridge. Ally opened the door for them both and Wazu stepped to the side to allow Soreta to pass through the doors first, not having said anything for the duration of the short walk.

“We are here,” Wazu started, “To discuss your capabilities as an ambassador.” Wazu made his way toward the table in the center of the room after closing the doors behind them both, slinging his weight along with the help of the cane. “Sending a Geshrin to talk with the Elysians could be seen as a sign of disrespect and we have reason to be unsure of your abilities as Ally has recorded multiple… complaints about your presence on this ship already.” Wazu stopped next to the table, facing Soreta and making a short forward movement to emphasise his words, “I do not believe you are capable of performing the task you have been assigned.”

Hmph...are they all that suspicious of me already? This is quicker than I expected... Soreta thought, as she stepped onto the bridge with a sigh. "Quite frankly, lieutenant, that's not your call to make. I have been on the ship for all of an hour and you denounce my ability due to my slight displeasure with some of the crew? I should hope you don't make command decisions like that."

She turned to the others on the bridge. "The lieutenant has shown notable prejudice towards me due to my species; implying that I am a loose woman, and overriding my instructions to my bodyguards. I wouldn't take his judgement as objective; evidently, he is incapable of the one thing any good diplomat or commander should be able to do - that is, separate his emotions from his work." Soreta's tone was contemplative and intellectual - a far cry from the responses she had given before. "In addition, it reflects poorly on his loyalty that he would so easily question the orders of his superiors."

The young warrant officer could only blink at the absurdity of what had just occurred. Both the Executive Officer and Diplomat had only just walked in through the door of the bridge and now they were at each others throats. Glancing over at the Lieutenant and then at the Greshin diplomat, the computer specialist could only bring his right hand up to his face and pinch the bridge of his nose, trying to keep a straight, expressionless face.

Damn...is it going to be like this the entire way to Elysia!? Matthew thought before looking back up at both individuals with chocolate-brown eyes. The Lieutenant has a major point about the Elysians possibly taking offense to our visitor. But questioning her abilities as a dignitary just because she made a few marines annoyed, the cadet thought as he reviewed some data about the complaints Ally collected. Then there's that accusation the Greshin Diplomat made on Lieutenant Wazu. he thought as he looked at the cane wielding man. He does seem a bit edgy when he's around her...okay, real edgy. But that is probably just because of the possibility of this mission turning around to bite us in the ass, not because of her race. Well...shouldn't be anyway.

Matthew then glanced at the Greshin woman with an objective eye. He had seen a few Greshin when he was on the transport he was apprenticing on before joining the military and she seemed rather different by comparison. For one, she seemed to prefer less-revealing clothing than the one's he had met. Plus the fact that he couldn't see her entire facial expression with her eyes covered made her seem harder to read. To sum it up, the distance she was putting off didn't seem very diplomatic. But the way she spoke hinted training in such a field, or a field involving public speaking. Still...I can see that she may have been a tad rough with the enlisted, he thought before glancing over at Captain Miller, wondering how he would respond to all this.

"Don't let it get to you Soreta." Jet said. "Wazu has a tendency to think that about women when he's in a bad or annoyed mood." he chuckled a bit. "But your bodyguards are part of the security of this ship while you're on it, which puts them in my jurisdiction..." he looked at Wazu. "Just let her keep her bodyguards, we'll station them outside her room because we know that you have your own duties and can't babysit her the whole trip there." he said, his arms crossed over his chest.

"She has a right to have guards on a ship full of amorous marines." Jet continued. "And the Elysian may have issue with a geshrin acting as a diplomat considering the shared history we all have with them. But to earn trust you first have to extend it at some point." Jet said, looking over at them.

“She has already shown her rather confrontational approach common to diplomats trained on Yamatai. This attitude does not seem to have gone over well with this crew and I can expect it to go over even worse when we reach Elysia. Even now she is still unable to break from the confrontational approach that would be so dangerous to use with the angels.” Wazu stated, pausing for a moment before adding, “Why should we trust you?”

Wazu then looked over at Jet. “It is your job to keep those marines under control and if you think that she needs those bodyguards then you are not doing your job. I would also refrain from inaccurate comments about my character as I have been kind enough to not mention your previous record of tardiness in completing the tasks assigned to you.” Wazu angled his cane slightly towards Jet afterwards.

“I have been given the task of escorting Soreta and I do not require the help of those bodyguards nor should she need them to help her project the image she is looking for.”

"My approach is not for you to question, lieutenant. You should trust me because your superiors have chosen to trust me; and if you can't trust your superiors, then your abilities as a soldier are lacking." Careful with her tone, Soreta was wary. The fact that she had so quickly made such a fierce enemy surprised her slightly - it usually took at least a day. So this is my challenge, huh? But it is good to see that there are people aboard who aren't so interested in me.

"Appearances are decieving, you know," she added. "You are quite quick to judge those you have just met."

Matthew could only frown more as he listened to all of this. It seemed the XO was on the war path all right, especially as he cut into Sub-Lieutenant Endurain. This could get ugly real quick, Matt thought as he stayed silent. What else could he do? He had a superior officer making several good points about the diplomat while said Geshrin was attacking his loyalty to high command. Ugh, this is giving me a headache, the Cadet thought as he absent-mindedly scratched the flesh around his connection port.

"Pardon me, sir," the warrant officer interrupted, finally gathering the courage to speak. "I understand what you are saying about the problems Ms. Soreta acting as delegate to the Elysians as well as understand the evidence suggesting she has been confrontational with the crew," the young man began as he sat up straight in his chair and cleared his throat. "To be honest, I'm worried as well. But if I may be so bold, what makes you believe the attitude she's shown toward us is her professional attitude and not just some personal hostility towards us, as in Nepleslian soldiers?" he asked calmly with an expressionless mask upon his face.

Jet laughed in the face of Wazu’s comments. “Ha ha. You really think that bothers me?” the white-haired lieutenant merely chortled. “Fine for the sake of keeping some form of dignity here I’ll refrain from taking more jabs at your questionable character.” He said, ignoring the jab about the marines. It’s because of me you have that cane instead of being dead ya stupid moron Jet thought.

Turning to Soreta at hearing her comment he just chuckled. “Man sounds like this ship’s crewed by a bunch of idiots.” He said with a smirk. “It’s not far from the truth really.”

“The kid’s right though.” He said, turning to Wazu. “Don’t be so quick to judge her, she may not be like this in front of actual duty. Let’s see how she does when the heat’s on before we start taking shots at her.”

“Because this is the only attitude that she has shown. She had even brought along bodyguards to reinforce that image she wished to convey and to further her enhance her abilities to be confrontational. It is the exact negotiating style which Yamatai uses to subjugate worlds. This is not the image that the Nepleslian Empire needs to be conveying.”

Wazu then looked in Soreta’s direction, “If this is how she acts towards people she is hostile to then if she encounters a hostile situation with the Elysians we can infer that she will act in the same way. Her ability to handle such a situation could very well be what determines if we come back from this or not.”

Miller rubbed his forehead while the verbal batterings flew across the room. He slowly counted to ten...

1... 2...

The Nepleslian's face was starting to develop a blush...

The pearly whites in his mouth gnashed together.

9...10

The Captain stood up,

"That's enough," Miller said with a stern voice. His face was red, but he kept himself under control. "Stop with the goddamn accusations. Ally. Bring up the voice recordings."

With a simple nod, Ally played the recordings.

SUBJECT: Diplomat Soreta. Discussions aboard NSS Alliance. BEGIN.

Quote:
"You will call me Soreta. I would like to be shown to my room, first; and I would also like you to inform Ally that I do not want to be watched by her." Slightly unpleasant, but she didn't seem to coat her words with venom with Wazu like she did for the others. "The bodyguards will follow me and take my bags to my room; I have a few things in there I need to unpack."

Quote:
"I can carry my bags just fine; thank you, lieutenant, for dismissing bodyguards who are supposed to be with me at all times. You have just overstepped your bounds. ...no matter."

"Stop here."

Miller shook his head.

"There's nothing wrong her except for some primadonna behavior on the part of our diplomat," he said. "Ally, continue."

PLAYBACK RESUMED

Quote:
“I will be escorting you for the duration of the captain’s orders. I suggest you avoid the mess hall and the crew quarters during your stay. I forget the specifics of you body type but you can pick up a large role of condoms from the medbay if you can’t shut of your pregnancy feature. As far as a tour of the ship goes, this is your room, down that hallway is the mess hall and I can show you where the medbay is. This is a military ship, and if you are seen in any area of the ship you will be considered a spy and shot on sight. If you need to speak with the captain make an appointment with him through Ally.”

"I don't care what you'll do to me for that, but you do not imply that I am a slut, no matter what! Do you hear me?

“I will exchange the word Geshrin for slut when I imply things in the future,” was Wazu’s short reply.

"Not every PNUgen model is so inclined...you're assigning me the crimes of another species, all for your own inefficiencies," Soreta replied with a venomous tone. "Or would you rather I exchange the words 'disease-ridden incompetent horndog' with 'Nepleslian'? Believe me when I say this...I don't intend to fuck anyone on board this ship."

“Very diplomatic choice of words.” Wazu said simply.

"Now you know why I'm here," Soreta replied sussinctly, as she closed the door.

STOP PLAYBACK.

There was a momentary pause as Miller's Nepleslian form trembled for a moment. Something was going to go down... now.

"What the fuck is this shit!?" Miller seethed, evenly distributing his anger between Wazu and Soreta for the moment. "Are you both children?!"

He pointed a finger at Wazu with a glare. "You, Lieutenant! You convinced me to call this witch hunt when THIS is all the information we have at our disposal?! I took your advice at face value because I believed that you had something SUBSTANTIAL to present to me, not this garbage that feeds off our racism and fear of the Yamataians!"

He then turned to the diplomat. "And you, Ms. Aristocrat! You think that signed papers and your idea of 'diplomatic immunity' will save your ass when it is getting shot at?! I suggest you drop the bullshit, and listen to the ranking officers on this ship. That means me and all the bridge crew, even the Lieutenant here, whether you like it or not, because, as long as you're on our ship, you're going to follow our rules... and you're going to do it with a polite nod and a curtsey, because those marines out there are the people putting their lives on the line so that you can have your tea party with the Elysians. You can bitch at Command until your face turns blue, but that's the way it is going to be now."

His chest heaved with a few breaths as he regained the massive amounts of oxygen he had just blew out of his mouth.

"So now we're back to square one, and the Cadet here seems to be the most level-headed person in the room right now, so we'll let him do the talking."

He nodded at Lionheart, the most approval he was willing to give through the scowl on his face.

"Do you have any inquiries, Lionheart?"

Matthew was a bit startled as his Captain blew up at the senior staff plus one diplomat. He was expecting it to happen sooner or later, but that didn't mean he was prepared for the explosive force of Miller's frustration and anger. Swallowing hard, Matthew proceeded with listening to the voice recordings Ally had.

Quote:

Sure, she sounds a bit pompous, but isn't that how all officials are supposed to be? Matt thought calmly.

Matthew blinked incredulously at the rest of the recording. Then came the raging volcano that was Captain Jack Miller. The force of his frustration and anger seemed to cascade down upon all of them. Luckily, the Captain required oxygen like the rest of them and halted his tirade. Oh boy, I'm probably going to be scolded for not properly dealing with this, Matt seemed to worry.

Quote:
"So now we're back to square one, and the Cadet here seems to be the most level-headed person in the room right now, so we'll let him do the talking."

The thought processes of the young cadet ceased at that moment as his face transformed from expressionless to incredulous surprise. Wha...what!?

Quote:
"Do you have any inquiries, Lionheart?"

Staying silent for a moment to regain composure and collect his thoughts, the young warrant officer cleared his throat as everyone seemed to stare at him like boring lasers. "To be honest sir, I have no inquiries. From the facts we have currently, all we have is that Ms. Soreta was a bit harsh with some of the crew. The speculations and personal feelings of Lieutenant Wazu are, to be bold and frank, bull shit when it comes to objectively reporting on Ms. Soreta's supposedly inability to execute her duties as diplomat." Cadet Lionheart answered with an expressionless face.

"Further more, this 'witch hunt', as you put it sir, it really just a waste of time that can be applied to preparing for our mission. Squabbles between our Exec and our Diplomat," Matt paused to look over towards Wazu. "Which, I apologize Lieutenant Wazu, seems to be very much more like a personal problem than it is a problem requiring the entire senior staff to solve it," Matthew explained before turning back his focus towards the Captain and the room. "Because of this, I'd recommend that this situation be solved by separating Lieutenant Wazu from Ms. Soreta, very much how parents separate misbehaving two arguing children," Matt replied in a tone with absolutely no emotion. "Assigning a different liasion between the NSS Alliance crew and Ms. Soreta seems like the most ideal way to ease tension."

Taking a breath to calm his raging insecurity of being in the center of this, Matthew continued in a tone that sounded as if he were merely making a solution to a computer problem. "I would also suggest Ms. Soreta placing her personal weaponry under lock and key while onboard, since this is a military vessel and she is, after all, a civilian. In response to this, we can allow her to have one bodyguard assigned to her 24/7. Would this be satisfactory sir?" Matthew finished his recommendation, turning it to the Captain for judgement.

Sub-Lieutenant Endurain just chuckled from where he was, glad he'd escaped the captain's rage, at least by direct naming. He wouldn't say anything til he heard what everyone else had to say, quietly processing what was being said. Miller was making cogent pointed left and right and figuratively slapping Wazu and Soreta around. He personally thought the two needed to bone and get it out of their systems.

Lionheart also had some good points about separating them. "I personally think that the lieutenant here has better things to worry about than Soreta anyway." He said.

Miller nodded.

"Sounds like fairly reasonable request, Cadet," he said. "We'll keep you two away from each other so that you can both do your jobs properly."

He shifted his vision to Jet.

"So, Sub Lieutenant, you're going to assign the bodyguard for our diplomat here."

The Captain sighed.

"Do we have anything else to discuss?"

"If it is all the same to you, Captain, I would prefer to return to privacy. I will follow your instructions...but I won't curtsy. That would require I wear a skirt." A smile, and a slight laugh escaped Soreta. In truth, she was relieved that the situation was over...although she had to be more careful from now on.

Jet looked over at Miller and nodded, the meeting itself had been relatively pointless once Wazu's points fell apart. There was no denying that Soreta was a pain in the butt but right now it'd be better to keep that to oneself. He blinked, taking a step back when he saw her smile. "Wow Soreta, you look a great deal better when you actually smile." He pointed out with a shrug, rubbing his head he sighed. "Guess I gotta confiscate those weapons of yours then find someone who'd be willing to keep an eye on you while you're here."

"I don't make a point of smiling much. Maybe that's a mistake." And Soreta turned to leave, just as she was asked to confiscate her weapons. "...I understand your predicament. This is a military ship...but if it is all the same, I'd like to at least keep the Type 29, and the daisho. You'll understand that I'm notably a bit wary about stepping onto a ship full of men unprotected."

Matthew seemed frozen to his seat for the moment, waiting for at least the Executive Officer and Diplomat to leave before relaxing at all. Keeping his eyes away from Wazu, Matthew made an attempt to at least look psuedo-normal in front of everyone. But he had just pointed out a superior's mistake in front of the Captain and that was something that no one of lesser rank ever felt comfortable with, especially a Cadet who was just a week or so out of the Academy.

I wonder what the Lieutenant is thinking about now? I would certainly understand if he thinks little of me now, though his feelings about what I said are pretty irrelevant now...I guess. Matt thought as his gaze fixated upon a nearby console, his appearance still expressionless.

Jet looked over at her and nodded about the smiling thing. "it is a mistake not to smile when the situation could be helped by it." He said and shrugged. "I can let you keep the 29 but I'm afraid the daisho set's going to have to remain decoration for now. And you aren't the only woman on this ship though, the messhall is maintained by 3 women so no complaining." he said with an amused chuckle.

Miller didn't bother responding to Soreta's statement, not seeing the humor in it. Nor did he see the humor in the small talk Jet was having.

"Unless anyone has anything else to say, you're all dismissed," Miller said. "Have some breakfast and get ready for the briefing. Soreta, you'll be joining us for that too, so make sure you check your attitude at the door before you get to the cafeteria."

"Lieutenant, I want to have a word with you in private."

Quietly standing up from his seat, the young warrant officer turned towards the door and walked calmly towards it. Passing by Jet, he left the room to head towards mess hall.

Jet turned and nodded to them all before following the others out and heading off to do his job. He would hold open interviews to try to find who would keep an eye on Soreta without pissing her off and without killing her.

After everyone had left, the captain gazed at the statueesque figure that was the Lieutenant. "Hmm..."

It seemed that he was punishing himself quite badly, but the captain wouldn't let him off the hook that easily.

Wazu merely stood at attention, looking forward but not directly at the captain. His arms were folded neatly behind his back and while out of sight he used his index finger to cut against the skin at the base of his thumb. He tried to keep his stoic face but he couldn't stop himself from feeling like he was ready to wince.

Miller let the Lieutenant stew a few seconds more before he spoke. "So, Lieutenant, let's review what just transpired, shall we?” He cleared his throat. "You came to me earlier and brought up suspicions regarding our diplomat, even told me we had evidence on the audio channels to support your claims. So, I called this meeting because we all know full well that this would indeed be a serious issue."

"Anyway, fast forward a bit, and we reach the climax of our little adventure, where I play the audio files only to discover a tremendous amount of egg had just splattered across the faces of you and I and the entire ship. What I want to know, Lieutenant, is why this matter was so important as to -- I won't use the word lie, mind you -- convince me into calling this meeting."

"I believed that her attitude warranted extra attention and that as first officer it was my duty to confront this problem aggressively.” Wazu said, maintaining his rigid form as he spoke. Though it was somewhat relieving to have the tension broken, it felt as if the captain was using a knife to do it.

"...what made you think you'd make any progress despite the evidence not backing -- no, directly contradicting -- your position? Did you think that you'd be able to pull some kind of Ace Lawyer bullshit and get a courtroom confession from the witness? I'm having a hard time understanding this, Lieutenant."

Miller walked slowly in a circle around the Lieutenant.

"She carried mannerisms I believed were characteristic of the standard mass produced NH series weapon that I’ve met in the past. I believed that the recordings would show this.” He paused a bit before adding, “I wrongly assumed that others would think the same way as me.”

"Regardless of whether you feel you're right or wrong, unless we have evidence to back up these claims, we're no more than barbarians," Miller replied quickly. "We're not some kind of Yamataian group-think crowd." He sighed heavily. "You can't assume other people are going to think your way unless you can back up your claims. If you're wrong, you're going to lose the trust of your comrades. Even if you're right, what happened right now only damages the trust the bridge crew has built in you. These are serious accusations you're tossing around... expect serious repercussions if you can't back them up!"

"Yes SIR!" Wazu practically shouted in response. His hands had clenched tightly now but he was no longer cutting into his skin with his fingernail.

"That's not enough, Lieutenant," the Captain added "I want you to lay out what you've learned and how you're going to change."

"Imagine if this were to happen again, in a time of war."

"That's not good enough, Lieutenant," the Captain said harshly. "What are you going to do about it!?"

"I will refrain from taking such swift actions until I have developed a more solid case against an individual." Wazu said, "As First Officer it is my duty to seek and confront any problem onboard and I do not intend to slack in that duty."

"As First Officer you have tremendous responsibility," Miller added. "If I don't see something, I need you to be my eyes. If I can't act, I need you to be my body. If I can't think I need you to be my mind. If I'm dead you better do some fucking instantaneous soul transfer mind-meld shit and figure out a solution to the crisis. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!?"

The Captain was in his face now.

"YES SIR!" Wazu shouted, still doing his best to maintain an unfocused forward view and avoid making eye contact with the face in front of his.

That's GOOD," the captain screamed in response before calming down and taking a couple steps backwards. "...because what I DON'T need is someone who spends time on wild goose chases when he could be preparing our marines for a battle simulation."

"Very well, I will prepare the sim immediately following this." Wazu responded, "Unless you have another order for me sir."

"Wait until after breakfast, Lieutenant," Miller said. "I'm not that much of a dickwad."

"Permission to speak sir?" Wazu asked.

"Granted."

"It seemed like you did scare Soreta straight and though they may have lost faith in me they certainly gained confidence in you." Wazu said.

The captain smirked. "Oh please, Lieutenant, what do you want to do next, pull my pants down? You look hungry. Go enjoy your breakfast."

Wazu couldn't help but grin slightly. He said, "Yes sir," Before turning and leaving the bridge, grabbing his cane on the way out and limping to the Mess Hall.

"Just remember, Lieutenant," Miller called to him as he left. "I hate it when people make the same mistake twice."
