The High Priest had yet to leave the command center devoted to directing the movements of the LSDF, his eyes were on reports streaming in from merchant ships which had been in the vicinity of Nepleslia recently.
Why now? Is it Katsuko who is doing this? Or is it the Ketsururi clan? Why would they go out of their way to bully the people of Nepleslia when they have not even made a move in opposition?
As Velor asked himself this, he looked at a data pad which held a report from the senator which represented his people in the Yamataian senate. The decree to remove the senate's capability to alter military policty, the recent proposal by Hanako... they were tied together to form a grim latticework which would enclose and asphyxiate a great many people.
Despite the reports which streamed in, and his want to be able to help those in need, and correct the sins of those who have fallen from grace, his hands were tied by his word, his honor, and most of all; his sister. He knew in his heart that he would be able to issue the order to intervene in a heartbeat, and that frightened him to the depths of his soul.
Only days ago, the Lorath were comfortable with the idea of another Ketsurui on the throne, a female one at that, then Katsuko ascended, which caused the plans of the Matriarchy to become confused. Everything was a clean and cut matter when it was a contest of pride against the heathen emperor Uesu. When the throne was passed to Katsuko though, there was a feeling of damnation yet a blessing at the same time, now his people were bound to fidelity twice over.
It pained Velor deep to the depths of his soul to look at the situation, but he knew he had to do something to help the people of Nepleslia... they were a good folk, and they did not deserve to be trampled or bossed about like his own were.
"Sister," He spoke as he looked to his queen which was seated beside him. "I wish to do something... tell me, is there anything you think we could do to stop this insanity? Anything we can do to end this torment to the good people of this universe? I long to see Yamatai pay for their sins, but I know we can not do anything against them... so what can we do? Shall we throw ourselves between them? Try to reason with them both? Or maybe we should throw ourselves at their enemy and hope our blood can remind them of their genuine foe?"
Velor's voice seemed uneasy as he spoke, he looked genuinely bothered by the matter at hand. He felt as if he were looking at a mirror of his own people's suffering... and he wished there were some divine power which would enable his people to stop the madness which had grasped those with power.
