Old (Furui) Tokyo-
A deal has been struck where Taisa Kage Yaichiro, Commandant of the Jiyuu Fleet Depot, has obtained the old metropolis of Furui Tokyo with the intention of decontamination and rebuilding as well as the intended creation of a memorial and burial site for any dead encountered. Aside from holdings of Peacekeeper Heavy Industries and other businesses that have rebuilt there to this time, he has apparently received the whole of the devastated metropolis which was ravaged by the Second Mishhuvurthyar War.
There are concerns amongst the populace that the massive land grant pulls land out from under them which was deeded to them by the former United Outer Colonies, but others look at Kage-Taisa's previous redevelopment and opening up of the city-ship of Nishitama as a sign of hope for a more humanitarian slant in which former deeds might yet be honored.
The task of decontamination is daunting and has resisted efforts by local hardliner Jiyuuians who refuse to abandon the former capital, but it is hoped that this new change of hands will result in the restoration of the city to a more inhabitable state. Already the planting of sunflowers has started in a preliminary effort to clean up the radiation in the topsoil and in the most damaged areas. Sunflowers have long been known for their ability to absorb and retain toxins and radioactive isotopes, and serve as an option for cost effective cleanup. The tropical environment is expected to favor the sunflower and allow it to flourish. More technologically inclined efforts are expected, but this initial effort is something tangible and visible to people living in the area, some of whom claim to have felt neglected by the Empire.
The sunflower is notable for drawing hummingbirds, the symbol of the old Motoyoshi clan.
