All eyes on her, now. And, truth be told, it always felt a little good to be at the center of attention. (Even though she felt like she was performing in a circus.) Although the, uh, person (she wasn't sure of things outside of Yamatai/Nepelsian space, and if the massive neko was any status, she wasn't sure of things inside it, either) who had doubted her skills had already turned away, it was time to show off what she could do.

So, with another practiced smile, the sort a game show host would use before rattling off the fabulous prizes the contestants would get, she nodded along with the rather large Neko (they made them that size?!)'s declaration of taking her aboard. "Cassiopeia. Cassandra Cassiopeia." A smile reserved for the red carpet debuts and movie stars trying not to look blinded by the cameras. Kit. Kit, as in... no, not that. "Yes, I've got a kit ready to go. I do hope there's some room aboard for it." She raises her palm, and-

It looks like a LEAF mech, on first glance. It certainly has the general shape of one, and, if you can look past the cacophony of mashed-together parts, you can see bits and pieces of the original left. Everything else has been torn off from, stolen from, fused into, or sculpted from what seems bits and pieces of fighter jets, other mechs, the occasional sports car, and random computers. It's more angular, more aerodynamic, like someone tried to make an artist's rendition of a hi-tech jet and gave it legs. Where the arms should have been are black-and-blue cannons of some sort, the sort police use to hurl non-lethal ammo and other unpleasant things into hordes of rioters. On top of those are a pair of... well, they're also cannons, but judging from the big, tank-like muzzles and various industrial-hazard-sign warnings about radiation hazards and instructions on how to use particle weapons and rockets correctly, they're probably a lot more lethal.

"I put it in a hangar on the airport." Best not to go into detail on how security didn't tackle her for having that thing near near civilians.

"Hey! I'll have you know I'm a kickass engineer!" Seiren spat at Shayla, clearly rustled by her rustling of his locks. He glared at Shayla until he saw, out of the corner of his eye, the projection of the custom frame of Cass's.

"Wh. . . what on earth did you do to that poor vehicle?" He asked, aghast at the newcomer's custom-job. "It looks. . . Aah. . It's a kluge."

The inventor's eyes narrowed at the singer. It was apparent from the sneer crossing his face that he didn't think particularly highly of her building skill, given the appearance of the machine.

Makari was a bit late to the departure lounge. Even though he had wanted to get off this planet and such, that bed was exceptionally comfortable. In addition, he had "smuggled" out a few of those burgers from before and had reheated burgers for breakfast. Still some of the best food he'd had on this crazy planet. His duster swished around him as he briskly strode towards the departure lounge ready for their next big adventure to anywhere but here. He might have gotten a hold of his immediately rage against Nekos, but they were still unsettling to him. All in all, a moderately successful trip. If only there had been better food....

Snapping out of his internal monologue, he noticed a few new face as he approaced. Another Freespacer, interesting. Maybe Echelon can have a new friend. Also, this overly friendly lady on whom he had no immediate opinion. He adjusted his rose tinted glasses and tipped his cowboy hat in greeting, "Hello Boss, everyone. Ah, I see we have a few new faces. Nice to meet you, I'm Makari. Ex-bounty hunter. Who might yall be?"

Shayla snorted a laugh at the confectioner's reaction. "Those weren't the talents I was admiring, kid." She wasn't incredibly familiar with armor, although Ronald had used it when needed. That had been years ago, though. Just another thing she'd need a refresher course on. Demolitions, that she was a bit more familiar with, although what she'd cooked up had likely been far less sophisticated than what their strange new friend could create.

Not really understanding much of what Echelon was talking about now, Lode's eyes began to wander. Being stuck away from the polysentience for extended periods doesn't do much for one's nerdy culture knowledge, it seemed. Still, the sentient low-budget amusement park attraction did seem to be enjoying the simple company. The trench-coated Nepleslian got an hearty thumbs up for his efforts, along with a "'Ello, I'm Lodemucker!", but there was clearly some kind of distraction taking place...

Soon enough, those eyes rose along the hulking form of one particular figure in the group. Some kind of home-grown battle neko with muscles that could probably pop a organic fella's head with her gunshow pose. Who even knew how or why somebody would make a catgirl like that, but it did give Five-Four new hope over the fistycuffs sparing partner issue.

"Hey you, iron maiden!" Lode seemed to slink into position at the woman's side with an unnatural grace, and immediately begin to grasp at a meaty bicep with great enthusiasm. She seemed to regard it independently from the rest of the woman, like one might a missile on a fighter aircraft. "Certunly got some hella meats on ya, you does. I'm takin' you are propa genemod yammie neko, none o' this freemarket just-for-fun stuff? You lookin' fur someboddie ta trade hits with?"

Sure, demolitions was her job description. But since leaving freespacer society proper, Muck didn't so much grow as a person, as learn that it really liked doing that job with her bare hands. Finding somebody else that could share that interest with her, without daily hospital trips, was a rare find indeed.

Luca felt his communicator vibrate in his pocket. "Seiren, now now, not everyone has endless reserves of cash - I'm sure that thing hits as hard as it is cobbled together-" he flipped his communicator out of his pocket. "Hello?"

"Hey I'm about to touch down now." John's voice came from the communicator on loudspeaker. John had a headset and his unmistakable sunglasses on. He was making some landing preparations, face wrought in concentration as he guided the ISC Big Bird down to pick everyone up. "There was a traffic jam in space but I just had to say my callsign and no worries. I heard you have some new arrivals and I've got the cargo team ready to pick up."

"We have some new faces. Can you pick up a mech?" Luca asked.

Without batting an eyelid John replied, "Yes. Yes I can. I'm waiting in Bay 05, not far from where you are," he said over loudspeaker. "I've only got ten minutes and then I'll be kicked out. Get going."

"And Enzo?" Luca asked.

"He'll be following me back up when he's ready."

Luca nodded back at his Communicator and looked over to Cass. "Better get it packed up and ready to go, Cass." He stood up. Echelon and Allison stood up too, Echelon taking Lodemucker's hand and leading her back up. "The rest of us will meet you there. Bay 05. I think floaty cargo things are provided for and we have a lot of room in the Big Bird."

"That's why its the Big Bird," Allison nodded.

Kyoto Aerospace Port, Bay 05
The Big Bird was there with its back loading ramp down. Melissa Jones was there in the archway, keeping an eye out for anything untoward with her Sniper Rifle, currently slung over her back. The fact that Yamatai always presented itself as such a friendly place only set her nerves on edge. "Carn, hurry up," she mumbled as she saw Luca come into view. Behind Melissa, Vita was standing there, looking at her father from afar.

"Dad," Vita addressed him as he came to a pause in front of her, "that took a while, didn't it?"

"How long could it have been?" Luca knelt down, and found himself with his daughter's arms wrapped around him. He stood there for a moment, arms by his side.

"It felt like a very long time,"

Luca sighed and reciprocated the hug. "Time does funny things sometimes, V." It had felt like quite a while since he'd seen his daughter.
"Yes. Also I saw you on the news," Vita observed. Luca's mouth went taut. "I thought you said you were going to be subtle."

"Well-"

"Now everyone in the universe knows you can turn Nekovalkyrja into... jam," she echoed the news report. "What does that say about you?"

"I should've picked a career in fruit preserves?"

"Your scar is missing," she noted as she let go of the hug and held his jaw, looking at the right side of his face, which currently looked perfectly fine. Luca's eyes looked back into Vita's and he felt vulnerable in front of her - though, to love someone was to make yourself vulnerable.

"I'm sure it'll find a way back," Luca sighed grimly before he stood up and lead her hand away until she stood up with him. He turned around to see Echelon and Allison walking by - though, Echelon's Mimicom body was over Allison's shoulder, and a metal clanking could be heard inside the Big Bird.

"She's really light like this!" Allison nodded as she carried her duffel bag in one hand and Echelon over the other as a levitating disk carried some cargo. The real Echelon, in her eight feet tall, robot, mono-eyed and railgun-toting glory was standing there with her rainbow scarf on, motioning for Echelon to hurry up.

"TH4T W4SN'T WH4T Y0U S41D L4ST N1GHT. N0W G1V3 1T H3R3," she said in her native tongue, "1 G0T T1R3D 0F W34R1NG TH4T TH1NG."

"Oh come on I saw the look on your face!" Ally retorted. "You were enjoying that massage-"

"HUSH!" Echelon put a finger to her faceplate and a holographic "" appeared over it. Allison sighed and continued moving up the ramp with her suitcase, Echelon's Mimicom body and a cargo palette on a levitating disk. "TH3R3 4R3 CH1LDR3N PR3S3NT," the Freespacer explained as she looked over to Vita.

Vita looked at Luca with a sigh, expression neutral as she gazed at him lazily for an explanation, palm very short of colliding with forehead. She'd always heard rumours of how deviant Allison had become once her income started racking up.
"Not my idea at all," Luca said quickly as he waited for the others.

Off the top of his head, he knew that Reeves would've been moving with Enzo if he didn't come on the Big Bird - while everyone else was going to pile onto the Big Bird to be dropped off at the Crimson Kestrel for payment, maybe a tour of the place, and living arrangements. Perhaps a small break in the comfort of their floating base would be nice before they got home to Sargasso and to plan their next mission.

"Eight minutes," John's voice said over the radio to Luca.
"Gotcha," Luca replied back.

Seiren spent a good two minutes just glaring at Shayla. Afterwards, he led Rebeka onto the ship and back towards his workshop area. He had a hankering to put these impromptu grenade casings to good use, and a sneaking suspicion on just how to use them.

Muck made an audible whistle upon seeing the chubby gleaming vessel on the landing ramp, mouth pursing in accordance even through the chirpy noise itself sounded as if it had been reverbed back through a shoe. A low-poly electric shoe with magnetic tape for shoelaces. The last couple of vessels that the automata had been on board leaked so much exhaust all over the place that their engines might as well have been inside out, so such a fit and healthy voidbucket really was a nice thing to see.

Still playing it cool regardless, Lode just jammed it's hands in her pockets and skulked slowly along behind the others. Her patchwork backpack was pretty small. No love lost in that police auction rustbucket roadster, presumably still blaring music to itself in the parking lot, either. No strings, no heavy loads, just the way she liked it.

The eventual appearance of Echelon's new form, or rather new-to-Muck form, got a a lot of enthusiasm from the wibbly android, who ran up examined it immediately. "MONDO-COOL~" It made an impressed noise, looking the chassis up and down from close range, much the same treatment as Shayla had gotten. "Knew ya had more inside ya!" It wasn't like the springy creature ever really looked all that suave, but evidently all that it took was someone physically bigger than her to make them to destroy that self-illusion completely.

No extra reaction about the massage stuff. People had tried to explain the whole 'touch sensitivity' thing to her before, but she honestly thought it all sounded kinda dumb and never bothered investigating.

Shayla didn't realize that shout had been meant for her until she felt firm, metal fingers squeezing at her arm through her Star Army uniform. "Eh?" She stared at the strange creature that was groping her bicep, raising an eyebrow as her fellow new recruit continued to look with her hands instead of her eyes. It took her a moment to mentally decipher the questions, making her hesitate briefly before the point became clear and she could properly respond. "Ha! Well, I got mosta that 'meat' from my dad's side of the family. ID-SOL a few generations back. The cushion is all Neko, though." She barked another laugh, returning the fixed smile with a wide grin. Seemed friendly enough, even if she preferred the type of faux body Echelon had been using.

"I ain't, uh, classically trained, if you know what I mean. Sure, I went through most stuff the same as her," she gestured toward the other Neko, "but I mostly got on-the-job training." She again patted the flat side of the roughly weaponized chunk of Yamataium to emphasize her point. "Not sure I'd make a good sparrin' partner. Don't wanna accidentally break ya! I couldn't put you back together as easy as the others."

Following along as everyone headed to the ship, Shayla smirked as the excited thing scurried off to the next shiny that caught her attention. She was going to miss the little doll with the funny dresses. McBelle didn't seem to notice Seiren's cold stare, or the mischievous gleam that followed it as he disappeared somewhere deeper into the ship. The giant Neko seemed more interested in the little girl her new boss was talking to. "Eh? Got a kid waitin' for ya at...home?" She guessed that's what the big ship was to them, after all. "Cute, real family business." She chuckled, grinning at the child before hauling her stuff inside to find a place to settle in.

Soruk didn't like waiting in the departure lounge at all, with the bright lights and loud new arrivals, so he 'disappeared' as soon as the option was on the table. Bay 05... As much as he didn't want to be trapped in a glorified metal box in space with people he hardly knew, it was better than the make-believe utopia where the natives were clueless.

He thought of his home as he briskly walked towards the ship. At least they didn't put up a facade of a perfect society. Things were much simpler at home, survive as best you could. The dangers of home made more sense than the 'dangers' here. The food was better too. The blademaster lost himself in thoughts of delicious gartagen food, so much that he walked into the doorframe of Bay 05.

He recoiled with surprise, shaking his head and flashing the Rura's blades out, the gleaming Sarquahi metal always ready to meet another's body. It took him a moment to realize he wasn't in danger, unless the doorframe turned to life. The blades slid back into their sheathes as Soruk looked at the 'Big Bird' and the assembled group at the ramp.

It was impressive as any other ship, was not very impressive to the gartagen. He appreciated smaller things, like the detailing on his Sheshka's. He bowed to Luca and the group, pulling his hood off, "I am here." He promptly boarded the ship and started his methodical search for a nice, dark, faraway place for himself.

Kyoto Aerospace Port, Bay 05, ISC Big Bird
Luca watched as Cass came by with her mech on a floating disk, and it looked so much more beaten up and battleworn than the hologram could do justice to. Melissa helped the cargo disk direct itself up the ramp, and into the cargo storage of the Big Bird. Once the Big Bird touched down back inside the Crimson Kestrel, it'd be unloaded somewhere - their cargo always had enough room.

Luca waved the two new arrivals on board, the Freespacer and the colourfully-haired Cass. "We'll be heading ourselves over to a bigger ship from here," he nodded as he watched the other stragglers and crew members come aboard too.

Beside him, his daughter watched, too. Vitalia had given up smoking in secret; she had one of them rolled in her mouth, and was watching the onload with him. Luca didn't seem to mind her smoking, knowing what she was - but he was a little concerned for Yamatai's hardline stance against Smoking. He'd rather not his daughter get busted for smoking like that politician did.

As though prophetic, she stated, "I think I liked Nepleslia better, Dad."

"The city in Yamatai sucks," Luca agreed, nodding. "I'd rather have gone home. You've never seen Ralt, have you?"

She flicked a bit of ash onto the deck and scuffed it with a designer boot. "No. Would I be able to go down on the surface, there, either?"

"Ralt's disconnected from the troubles of the world, up in the mountains, trees and snow keeping us safe and close," he sighed, reciting the last passage in a very un-cosmopolitan accent of Yamatai-go.

He looked across Bay 05, and did a quick headcheck. Everyone had come aboard and was accounted for. "Let's head to Sargasso."

Vitalia seemed annoyed. Perhaps it was the smoking. Perhaps it was the way she looked at the people coming onboard. Or perhaps, strangely enough, Luca had come to know how to read her moods past the bullshit, past the person she became when around everyone else aside from him.

"Closing the ramp, stand clear," John's voice said over the intercom. Luca turned around and walked inside. The trip would take just a couple of minutes.

"Dad?" She hadn't turned away from the ramp immediately, but had instead looked back at him, only moving when it was clear she would be cause by decompression - and then, at a trot.

"Nn?"

"When is it gonna end, anyway?"

Luca didn't know. "Probably when the universe does first," but he seemed content with that answer. Melissa was waiting just ahead of him, and gave the captain a nod. No doubt Vita got acquainted with her, holed up in that ship for a couple of days. "Melissa," he addressed.

"As y' are," she replied as she leant back against the bulkhead. "Who're the new two?"

"Who knows?" Luca replied. "They want in, I can't argue no."

"Like... Ivan?" she replied, making reference to that Paragoon Cyborg who got into very deep trouble with Origin (and by extension, Aerin Tatst) a few years back.

"That was on his head," Luca replied. "Did Vita give you any trouble?"

"Nah," she replied, looking down at the girl. "She's a good girl, didn't think you'd be half a father."

Vitalia shrugged. "We painted some models. I tried talking her into doing her nails."

"Not gan' happen," she chuckled, flexing her fingers to show her nails unmolested. Luca chuckled too, the sort that a dad would when the babysitter had to earn their tip.

"We're leaving in three... two... one... hold onto something."

Luca seemed to cross his arms, Vita knew that he was doing that thing with Yamataian anti-gravity, however limited it was. She grabbed him, mostly for appearance sake.

And partially because between them they wouldn't move an inch.

The ship took off through the various spheres, rattling the whole way up as Luca and Vitalia Pavone remained utterly still. Melissa meanwhile was grabbing onto a rail on the bulkhead.

Once things had stabilised, Melissa was breathing a little, but still unperturbed by the majority of the flight up. Luca and Vita hadn't budged an inch though. They disengaged from each other and Melissa just said, "Just like Dad, eh?"

"Pavone," Vitalia offered as an explination. Her cigarette ashed again, and she hurriedly brushed it off her jacket. "Shit."

Luca assisted and flicked the remaining ash off. "Careful now," he cautioned, though he probably knew the woman beneath the girl knew better. Maybe it was a ruse.

Maybe. But he had to trust that she'd left that behind even though he couldn't know for sure. "You're going to ruin that jacket."

Says the guy who frequently got his jacket ruined with his own blood, bullet holes, scorch marks, fist marks, cuts, concrete dust, gunpowder residue, and the blood of others. There might've been some Nekovalkyrja jam there somewhere too.

"You're one to talk!" Satisfied she hadn't burned herself or her oh-so-precious clothing, she flicked the rest of the cigarette back towards the bay doors and then folded her arms somewhat haughtily. It didn't matter that most of her clothing was 'designer' Neplelisan, and already had a few cigarette marks on it from the factory - Luca knew her well enough to realize how precise she acted about her image. As a teenage girl. His daughter.

Luca sighed and took off his jacket and hung it up, he took off the segmented breastplate and torso protection too, and breathed a sigh of relief. "Shuddup," he teased, clearly having a joke. He moved over to the small Lounge section of the Big Bird and laid down on it, heaving a noise of pure relief from his mouth as he looked at the ceiling. He was just about to close his eyes and doze off when...

He heard something that interspersed between whistling and humming in a tune so obnoxiously upbeat and catchy, invading his ear and coming around the corner to interrupt his peace. He tried to ignore it, but it was already too late: It was stuck in his ear now.

"LUCA LUCA!" An overly-cheery voice beckoned from across the lounge, piercing like a sabot round. Luca's eyes opened wide and his brow furrowed. Seiren was already at his side and he boggled at the pint-size inventor. The inventor's eyes shined like the candy-coated-crystals that he had probably consumed prior to this, evidenced by the fact that he was practically vibrating in place.

"I HAVE SUCH A COOL IDEA! Y-YOU KNOW HOW LIKE MAGNETS AND STUFF YEAH? WELL THINK MAGNETS AND YOUR PUNCH AND BZZT! JUST THINK! I MEAN, I MADE A MINI MODEL BUT IT MIGHT EXPLODE BUT LOOK AT IT ITS SO COOL!" Seiren torrented, holding out something coiled in wire and tied to a Jacob's Ladder.

Help. Luca thought aloud to Vita. If she heard him, she didn't give any indication. Instead, she sat down on an armchair next to the couch and folded her legs at the knees. Skirt. "Wh-what now?" he peered at the model and tilted his head as his ears rung with Seiren's voice. He's so loud.

"HEY HEY CHECK IT OUT WATCH WATCH WATCH!"

The inventor gestured at the device, but then-

"SHHH WATCH!"

-as if anybody had actually said anything. Seiren shook his head, forgetting to actually turn on the thing. He corrected that. A little ball of electricity - no larger than a baseball - projected from the wire coil off of the antennae and out into the middle of the room. And then disappated.

"SEE SEE SEE WASN'T THAT AWESOME NOW WE GOTTA MAKE IT BIGGER! MUCH BIGGER!"

Vita clapped a bit. Only a bit. Then, she looked at her father, arching a bit of an eyebrow. Luca watched the ball of lightning move through the air, and the static electricity around him was making his sideburns and hair stand up - and Seiren's hair too, he chuckled at both the novelty of the lightning ball and how Seiren's hair looked like it was about to run from his head.

"NOW JUST IMAGINE THIS, EXCEPT BIG! ISN'T IT COOL COOL COOL?"

"Calm down calm down-" Luca said, now sitting up. "You going to mount this to your LEAF or something? Could be great for fighting robots or something," he said, fingers in his right hand flexing as the Grapple Stunner bolted to his arm (following him everywhere) shook.

Seiren shook his head one too many times. "NONONONO! NOT LIKE THAT THAT'S LAME TOO LAME I WAS THINKING ON YOUR ARM! LIKE SUPER GRAPPLE STUNNER! SUDDENLY NEW THEME MUSIC PLAYS!"

He looked down at his arm. "My arm? Theme music? Did the marketing team slip you something...?" he asked aloud, looking at Vita, expression on his face somewhere between vaguely amused and dour wanting out from Seiren's vocal range.

"JUST THINK, MAGNET PUNCH! OR SOMETHING." Seiren giggled, falling onto the floor with nothing but the power of laughter fighting him. What was so funny about all of this?

Luca grinned and cringed, eyes looking between the boy and Vita. It was like he was taking care of two kids, one of which loved their red cordial and giggled like a chipmunk on twizzlers.

"Stop yelling?" Vitalia was polite. "Please?"

"I don't think that's gonna happen," Luca sighed. Vita shrugged a bit, smoothing her hair back down. Had it raised?

"Hey. Hey. Heeeeeey. Hey Luuuuuuca. Hey hey Luuuuuuca!" Seiren called from his floorbound position, feebly waving an arm. Luca looked down at him, and grabbed his arm and pulled him up to his feet without much effort or a word - he was pretty light after all.

"Luuuuuuca. Guess what? Luuuuuca. Guess guess guesss."

"What?" Luca humoured the kid.

"You gotta smile more, yanno? Like reeaaaaally smile."

"He does, doesn't he?" Vitalia flopped back in the chair, looking to Luca. "Maybe you could use this thing and, I don't know, make a really bad hand-buzzer."

"I am smiling," Luca said, not smiling.

"That's not a smiiiiiile. C'mon. Bigger. Biiiiiiiiigger. I know you can do better. C'mon smiiiiiile!"

He tried. There was plenty to grimace about now but there wasn't much to smile about in the long term with DATASS breathing down his neck. He found Vitalia leaning with both arms on the chair's arm, watching him pleasantly.

"Hey. That's not a smile. This is a smile. C'mon, I'll help-" Seiren said, reaching over to lift Luca's frown upside down with his hand. And then- "Pasha! Picture dooooone!"

Luca could see that Seiren had his communicator in his other hand and heard the sound of a camera going 'click' - or at least a simulation of one anyway.

"Pfictur?" Luca tried to say, lips unable to move around and form the sound properly lest he bite Seiren's fingers. Nearby, he heard Vitalia laughing. She wasn't able to stifle it with her hand. Luca leaned back and got Seiren's sugary fingers out of his mouth, briefly licking his lips and figuring out why he was so hyper right now.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand uploaded. Caaaaan't wait for everybody to see thisssss. I made Luca Pavone smiiiile!" Seiren giggled, waving his phone around.

"But where?" Luca asked as he looked at the phone in Seiren's sugary fingers.

"We're going to be on the Crimson Kestrel soon, stand by for landing and prepare to unwind." John said over the intercom again, "I'm thinking of running a game of Ogres and Oubliettes while we're on our way home, who wants in? I've got character sheets and dice ready."

"1 D0WNL04D3D 4LL TH3 G00D M0DUL3S T00. MY F4V3 1S TH3 L0N3LY K33P 0N TH3 FR0NT13R." Echelon chipped in over intercom too.

"Hell yeah, The Lonely Keep on the Frontier," John said - it was one of the best old-school sorts of modules, "Totally gonna run that tonight."

"I'll play the healer this time." Vitalia chimed in, making her claim before anyone else would have the chance to. "Tired of wiping."

"Good call," John said. The kid played pretty good O&O and even better as a healer.

"D1BS B4RB4R14N TH3N!" Echelon replied over the intercom.

Seiren, interrupted by the announcements, waited for them to finish before grinning at Luca. "Eeeeeverywhere." Luca groaned as he looked at the picture.

MISSION 2 - COMPLETE!! ... maybe.

"About bloody time," Luca sighed as he saw the letters and wondered if they were edible or why they kept following him around. Maybe whatever was on Seiren's fingers was making him see those floating letters.

Or not. "Wow. Those are reeaaaaaaaaaally obnoxious, huh?" said the inventor who the term could apply to very well.

Luca would find out later that the picture only made it as far as his marketing team.
