I have noticed that a number of the factions have re-spawns, Yamatai does the back up down load thing, Nepleslia does the whole severed head thing.

I was thinking of a way to give the Gartagens a way to respawn dead characters, but at the same time I do not want to steal anybody's thunder.

So my question is, what are the limitations of an In character respawn, and can anybody provide me with some unique ideas that will survive NTSE inspection.
 
I considered that too, but then it kind of sucks when you spent so much time making a character, getting them approved then you mess up in play and DIE, and you have to do the same thing all over again lol. I am thinking Gartagen respawns could be a limited thing, like you can only once or twice.
 
I am considering making a cellular regeneration machine that can be used to repair recent-ally dead bodies through a mixture of genetic engineering, and flash cloning of needed organs and cells, along with nerve regeneration(for brain death). Of course such a device would require recovery of a corpse, and a time window to get the corpse placed into the machine that fixes em up. Kind of like the device in the 5th element that brought Leloo to life.
 
How do you get around damage to the brain? That causes the memories to be lost?
 
I was thinking about that. A head wound, and the whole lack of oxygen to the brain thing causes the white matter to immediately degrade I was think of taking the really sci-fi route and going with drawing on the genetic memory? This kind of sci-fi is not my specialty and I find it hard to grasp the concept of reversing cellular necrosis, hence the question.

What would be the IC reason for the Gatargens developing such technology. From the Gar page "About fifty years ago the Gartagens had come to a problem that many worlds eventually come to. Population,"

The ability to keep people around goes contrary to the population being a problem. I would say just don't do it.
 
I think their higher ups and military commanders would love to have a way to bring back themselves or skilled soldiers should they be killed. Medical technology would also naturally progress along this route.
 
Although we were very apprehensive about putting a revive function for Nepleslia, the Nepleslian GMs added one in to give players the safety net they felt was necessary. At the time, things between factions were tense and people felt better with that safety net. Personally, I feel it cheapens death, which is why we put a lot of limitations on it, both ICly and OOCly.

Nepleslian 'respawns' consist of little devices in a soldiers brain that takes a sort of digital photograph of the brain and its functions. Reviving requires the device primarily, but having the brain intact helps a great deal, as these digital pictures can never really be 100% accurate when replicated. Hence why the MEC unit is present in most Nepleslian powered armor; it's a greater chance of proper reimplementation.

Limitations of our technology are that if the brain and device are destroyed, it's impossible to make a proper revival. The device is required to stay attached to the brain at all times to be properly updated every second of its service, and it cannot send the information, only store. Another limitation that we impose is because of the expense of procedures to revive a functioning brain, even if one dies and both the device and the brain are intact, there's no guarantee that the military will give you a free life, and the fees are well out of your average payroll.

Only exceptional cases, such as high-ranking officials or VIPs are subject to this treatment with favorable odds. Regular soldiers who have died are out of luck, unless they have something that merits a revive.


I don't really have any suggestions, but this information will spark something for you.
 
I was thinking pretty much that exact thing. VIPs and rich people tend to get revived where as grunts who get shot up are SOL unless they have desired skills or information.
 
Another option is that for every revive some sort of "scar" is left on the brain, but has no negative side affects. However, after multiple revives the "scars" can begin to cause permanent brain damage, or even death, so the government forbids more than two or three revives per person.
 
That could work. Or even some kind of cellular degradation. It could also be made fun as the character has to deal with the psychological effects
 
Personally I dislike this whole "coming back to life" thing. As a player it make me think that the threar is much lesser. Character might think, "well the worst thing that will happen to me is that I die, whatever." and then it is kinda boring. In a military plot and adventure plot I think the part of it all is the thing that you can die. It is that danger that makes all the more thrilling. As a player of your future plot Ira I wanted to say this.

And about your canon justification of the technology. Most of you player will be the lowest grunts since we are infrantry folks and so the revive-thing would not be used on them anyway. So in the end your OOC reason of doing this for players would went out of window anyway.
