Today I've been working on starting to make an updated Character Creation Guide. I began with the occupations that Star Army characters can be and have available. In addition to skill lists, each job is going to have detailed job descriptions and examples, plus a list of standard equipment.

Does this look good (Remember, it's only Star Army occupations)?

Officer
Ambassador and Diplomat
Command (Handles legal)
Communications Officer
Computer Systems Officer
Educational Officer (Professor)
Intelligence Officer
Starship Pilot and Navigator

Warrant Officer and Enlisted
Armor Crew
Armory, Storage and Supply (Handles mail and finance)
Communications Technician
Field System Technician
Infantry (and Combat Engineering)
Military Police
Pilot, Power Armor
Pilot, Shuttles, Fighters, and Torpedo Bombers
Power Systems
Robotics Specialist
Ship's Cook
Starship Operator
Special Services
Technical Sentry

Science and Medical
Biochemical Scientist / Geneticist
Doctor / Coroner (Human Medic)
Planetary Sciences and Terraforming
Psychiatrist / Counselor
Sensor Operator and Technician
Nekovalkyrja, ST, and HS System Operator

I'm not sure what the difference is between Field Systems, Power Systems, and Starship Operator. I'm guessing it will be made clear in the examples?

Field Systems would cover running and calibrating the shields, CDD drive, and GWB systems, etc.

Starship Operator is a one-man (usually a Juni) do-it-all person that can run a starship without a crew. Used when there is a shortage of personnel or to move ships to new stations.

Power systems deals with generators, capacitors, wiring, cables, conduits, and all the stuff that gives a starship's systems what is needed to operate.

*Takes a break*

I've been working on it for a while now. I've uploaded what I've got so far. The occupations will eventually have descriptions with them. I'm going to try for at least 2 paragraphs of description each.

Later, I'll have description for each skill, too. The civilian occupations will come before that, though.

If you want to se ethe work-in-progress, go to the "Create a Character" link and then "Appendix."

Flavor Quotes

Quotes are a great way to add color/flavor and humor to the CCG.

Some examples:

Officer

Ambassador and Diplomat
"Sometimes a cunning phrase can save a thousand lives."

Intelligence Officer
"In war, information is the most important commodity."
-- Derran Tyler

Warrant Officer and Enlisted

Armory, Storage and Supply (Handles mail and finance)
"There are a few things that you don't want to run out of on a space ship. Air is one of the biggies."
-- Florence Ambrose

Infantry (and Combat Engineering)
"You are in the Army now!
You are in the Army now!
You'll always get paid!
You'll often get laid!
You are in the Army now!"

Power Systems
"I need more power, Scotty!"
-- Captain James Kirk

Ship's Cook
"In some civilizations, the cook is the third ranking officer on a ship, right behind the captain and the first mate. Go figure."

Technical Sentry
"You'd be surprised at the number of things you can solve with guns."

Science and Medical

Doctor / Coroner (Human Medic)
"Greetings, human female."
-- Dr. Zoidberg, at Fry.

Nekovalkyrja, ST, and HS System Operator
"Let's see... Left arm has been severed... Broken femur... Hairline fractures in the skull... Chest cavity and intestines exposed in several places... Eh. Nickles and dimes. I can fix you right up. You'll be fine."
-- random Neko medic

There are a good deal of occupations that never happened and ones that were added here. I think there are a good amount, though, and the perfect blend of occupations in what we currently have.

I think the specific codes is something I overlooked when creating my scientist and maybe something I should have specified in her wiki, though I also believe I would have simply chosen general scientist, anyway. In our current mission we have a general scientist, astrophysicist that is also operating sensors, and will soon need a biologist that can analyze alien life.
