Logistics Fleet Admiral Mitsuya Ember sat in her office surrounded by volumeric projection screens as she was given the monthly disbursement reports from the fleets.
"As you can see fleet Admiral, there has been a growing number of pirates that have been striking at random areas- but mostly outer settlements on the borders, that have been raiding our mining colonies or intercepting the civilian cargo runners. The estimated amount of losses are in the millions right now. Many of our possible peacekeeper recruits have been staying in the colonies to defend against pirates.
So our recruitment numbers are down and we don't have sufficient manpower to investigate each incident of piracy," a female Jiyuuian reporting in said with a hint of despair in her voice. "We're not sure how to proceed, Ma'am."
Ember leaned forward at her desk, with her arms supporting her head as she tapped her chin with one of the fingers cupping her chin. "We need to concentrate a majority of our forces around Jiyuu and our major production areas, and increase security around our military grade equipment," she paused as she thought the problem over carefully. "We'll have to form a taskforce to investigate more serious reports of piracy and also task those ships with border patrol.
We need some more help to keep our nation safe... our police force still needs bodies, so some districts don't have a population large enough to support a full police force... we can try to allocate some equipment to civilian volunteers and a reserve home militia force. But for something that big... I need to talk to our politicians and our other admiralty.
But in the mean time, our job is to keep our supply lines open. I think to start... 50 ships for the task force will do. It's not nearly enough but we have a lot of area to patrol still."
