I'm reluctant to put a dying star on the map, because it could put other nearby systems in danger.

Could you move this to the system: folder?

I don't think you need to worry about that. Even a dying star system can take thousands of years to actually nova, so there should be no worries.

And yes, even though the star is "dying" astronomically speaking that event will take place on the order of several millenia to say the least.
