KFY Discontinues War Cruiser, Builds Diplomacy Ship
Yamatai - Ketsurui Fleet Yards announced today that it will no longer be producing the Ayame-class Cruiser. The Ayame, also known as the Integrated Strike Force Cruiser, was designed in YE 24 and entered mass production that same year.
Over 6.75 million ships of the class have been built over the years, with most being lost in the war against the corrupted Mishhuvurthyar. In the Star Army of Yamatai 13,147 ships of the Ayame class remain on active duty today with about 150,000 in various stages of being scrapped, mothballed, or recycled in various Star Army Depots and currently 192,427 designated for sale to civilians or gifts for privateers.
"She is a good ship," a KFY spokesperson said, "but there are plenty already and we feel that the existing Ayame supply is already more than sufficient for the market. New classes will eventually fill its niche."
The Ayame cruiser is gradually being phased out of service in the Star Army of Yamatai as well, already removed from the recovering Fifth Expeditionary Fleet and with only a handful in the First Expeditionary Fleet. Because of the ship's useful design, the disposal of most Ayame has been postponed or avoided over the years -- many of the ships are ending up in civilian hands.
"It's a great ship," said Pansarkedja Wikkedson, a retired Third Expeditionary Fleet veteran. "The public needs quality ship designs and the Ayame is a proven design. I can see why KFY is ceasing construction, though, with so many surplus ships laying around from the mega wars." The giant troll owns an Ayame and used it to explore the galactic North until the International Armistice Agreement, and now is heading southward to chart systems there. He formerly served on the Ayame-class YSS Celia (YC-55).
The Chiharu-class flagship is also being discontinued, as there is no longer a need for additional ships of that class either. While this leaves the Star Army of Yamatai without a main carrier or battleship for the future, current ship numbers are plentiful and a new battleship, the Sharie, is in development.
Parts from dissembled ships will be used in the construction of star fortresses and massive colony vessels, moving worlds with self-contained ecosystems.
Ketsurui Fleet Yards has also just released a new, unarmed diplomacy ship, designed for the use of the Yamataian government. Empress Himiko's new peaceful policies called for the government itself to make negotiations rather than the heavily armed military. The 210-meter-long Tranquility-class Diplomatic Cruiser was designed by Kage Yaichiro. The Yamataian Government has already announced plans to donate some of the class to the United Outer Colonies as a gift, along with T3 Lion and T7 Raccoon shuttles. The Diplomacy ship has innovative design features to accommodate aquatic life forms.
