This is really neat and no problems really jump out at me with the technology itself. But I'm wondering if it really needs to be approved as an article like this. If you have a specific, intended use for it, why not just include the gadget as part of your RP? It seems very James Bond/Q Branch inspired like you have an idea you want to use it for. I'm not really sure if it's the kind of thing the Services Group would mass produce as standard issue for SAINT personnel, though.

Why nerimium? Why not something lighter? You really need a card made out of starship-grade metal?
What if you need to cut someone up or out in a pinch? Sharpen one edge and make that swipe-and-go shine red!

(PS: Is the Black Card a reference to the Amex Black Card?)

How about Durandium? Yamatai doesn't use Nerimium much; it's mainly used by Nepleslia.

Also, FM Approved

Can we get some connection with the Type 34 MFB? I.e. can the blackcard be part of a standard operative's kit, and mean to work in tandem with the MFB? And if so, how?

Ok reading these comments a few things from me.

1. I used starship grade metal because of its durability, you can also card doors regular way with it and the last thing an operative needs is for her tool that could potentially be holding sensitive information to break. A bit overkill yes but better safe than sorry (also because yes you could sharpen the edge and have an ad hock razor blade type thing). Though I will be willing to change it to some material more SAoY friendly but of parallel durability, finding all the different types of metal on the wiki is actually rather difficult for some reason.

2. Doshii I would love to link it in with the MFB but the link seems to be dead and also I cannot find the exact thing you're mentioning on the wiki, thus preventing me from working on it.

3. Luca, yes it is a reference to the Amex Black Card, I thought it would be a clever/a bit of a joke with the name.

Side note, while browsing facebook earlier my friend posted this and now I have a visualization on how the buttons work (also mad I didn't see this before)

Try it now, Rikola. I'm so used to making URLs with BBC code that I screwed up the link. Damn forum's smarter than I am.

Couple of things, one whatever material the card is made of, it should be a link. I would suggest straying away from using a NAM material. Its a SAOY so you could use something like Osmiridium that the SSS developed which is a medium grade armor. Also as a person who has to badge in repeated when on the IBM site. An EMP is not really going to do what you want. A) You would destroy the device, so if someone comes along trying to get in, they won't be able to and will call security, B) frapping the reader is not going to release the lock. The lock mechanism requires a power signal to be sent which triggers a solenoid that keeps the door unlocked for a few seconds. That is what the buzz is when you badge in.

Working in tandem with the MFB, the card could be used to hack the door lock with damaging it which could by itself attract attention. Place card on reader, trigger command on MFB, wait, open. You could also use the card to read the code from another card. So when you pass someone you have the MFB and card linked and read the data from a passerby. Which is how folks are stealing credit card data these days.

Also you need the year it came into service on the page typically in a general topic sentence at the top of the article.

Awesome Awesome Awesome Nash, learned something today with your last post. Sorry for the delay in editing finals week for school and all that RL jazz was keeping me down.

Ach sorry for the lack of response, been really busy these past two weeks for my directing final and tech for said final. But no nothing has really been updated or new

I'm not sure how effective an EMP pulse from a credit card-sized device might be. Its power source would have to be rather disproportionate to its size and even then it sounds like a one-off that would drain the card if not fry it permanently. If it has computer components couldn't it perhaps have a sensor to detect inductance/EMF and try to analyze from that how to release select electrical pulses into the system to open the door? That system may also allow the card to act as a stun gun against foes. They have managed to minimize a TASER into a shotgun shell in the real world, so it should be more plausible to produce than an self-shielded EMP-capable credit card.

Well, it can just use some ultra thin, rechargeable micro-capacitors, and the electronics can possibly be shielded. We're already working on thin, flexible batteries IRL anyways. Though this is supposed to be a moderate to high end piece of equipment, I suggest against making it overcomplicated by adding on more features. Though it would be cool to simply have the card open the door for you, we have to admit that just disabling the electronics so we can card it the old fashioned way is more fun. My own opinion, is that this tool is a 'burn' type of tool, one that's used because it's quick and fast, but destroys to get entry. A more complex ones should be used to covertly enter without leaving behind clues, but that's my own opinion, which does not have to be taken.

As we last left off, a different material is needed - I actually suggest an advanced polymer, since the metal alloys aren't as flexible, something that's necessary when carding a door to unlock it. The thing has to swedge in there, and if the armor grade alloy is thin enough to do that, then it'd risk cutting the user.

@Riko

Just as a heads up; I'm going to just relabel the article and put it on hold assuming you're busy. You only need to reply here on the forums whenever you're ready.
