SARP Urban Legends!

Nah, I think it's an interesting idea that needs a little more fleshing out. One popular Yamataian urban legend involves Ketsurui Chiharu having a ghost despite Yamatai being an aethiest society that doesn't believe in an afterlife with the advent of Soul Transfer/Backup technology. I think @Wes or @Doshii Jun can explain how this came about better than I can.

  • Emperor Uesu never really left, and rules from the shadows
  • The Mishhu were created to purge alien species on Yamatai's borders so it could expand
  • All Nekovalkyrja are just functional pieces of a single intelligence
  • A second great plague is already spreading
  • SAINT has a deeper, more secretive counterpart
  • The Empress is just a hologram that works for the military.
  • The Star Army's old military bases on Nepleslia are still controlled by the Yamatai
  • There are trees on planet Ether
  • Uesu's lost fleet still gets mail service from Star Army Logistics
Grains of salt required.

  • You get shot at 14 years of age on Nepleslia as a rite of passage.
  • There are Four-armed females on Abwehr.
  • Nekoes used to have flamer-tits.
  • Yui has a sense of humour. She is just damn good at hiding it.
  • Gartagens eat their own poop.
  • There used to be ID-FEMs, but government hid them, because they were manlier then ID-SOLs.

Actually... yes.
I recall my Nep character being told to investigate if she had an "innie or an outie"...
Not long after, i had to leave SARP, technically making my character vanish.

The rumors were all true then ;)

The Iromakuanhe may be the transhuman mouthpieces and warrior-slaves of their Makuori progenitors, living under an extremely subtle but pervasive form of mind control that is reinforced by their religion and constant exposure to their alien-derived biotechnology.

Source: A setting that Fivemarks wrote up where he bastardized my faction as a snub against me.

PANTHEON can assume control of any individual at any time.

No, really.

I'm serious.

What do you mean, saying that my tinfoil hat isn't stylish? I'll have you know that tinfoil is in vogue this year.

1 & 2: I believe.
3: Possible: Everything connected even remotely to PANTHEON is apart of an aggregate hive semi-consciousness, I mean most everything is digital, it wouldn't take much for a super-hacker (like Yui in hertype-23 Godmode body) to hack someone's brain in this setting, especially since Telepathy is treated as a form of digital communication, get their carrier wave and you can backdoor into them.
4: Maybe, who knows with all these aliens from alien worlds with alien bacteria and viruses.
5: CONFIRMED. Black spiral.
6: Jossed, though she's not as politically powerful as the Taisho, which is hilarious.
7: Possible.
8: Sure why not?
9: I bet they do, see No. 3 above.

Yessss.... this is a bueno subject. The following may or may not be genuine.

  • Many guns found on Kennewes are not actually made by Zen Armaments, but are actually made by KZ.
  • It is said among Helashio that whenever someone goes missing without a trace, they have been kidnapped by Lorath who never left their underground prison.
  • The Lorath Matriarchy only began to issue regulatory permits for prostitution due to unconfirmed rumors of Yamataian infiltrators disguising themselves as 'escorts'.
  • It is rumored by Lorath Self Defense Force and Lorath Salvage Division personnel that a 'ghost machine' lurks in the waters of Nyli II, with no pilot inside. Every year, tales speak of the machine being larger, and more fearsome.
  • Smoking is outlawed on Yamatai because cigarette smoke causes irreparable damage to PNUgen-type engineered DNA.
  • Bodies which have had their consciousness removed via Soul-Transfer are not actually disposed of, but are instead placed in storage and sent to a warehouse that functions as a repository for bodies to be used in special operations or cover-ups.
  • Rumor states; Notan, of the Lmanel caste of Lorath, has not actually been on a spiritual retreat. The deposed Princess of the Fyunnen who was banished for inter-caste procreation was not in fact banished. 'Truth' of the Occhestians has not been executed. They are all rumored to be in Matriarchy custody, as subjects of a project to revitalize the Tur'listia caste in light of the death of the Xiaah.
  • Lorath research into space travel was not put on hold because of an accident in which two of the Tur'listia caste were lost, but instead was held back due to a discovery of an unknown and unspoken horror, alien in origin.
  • There is over 500 Trillion KS in unclaimed pay intended for Star Army of Yamatai personnel.
  • There was once genuine magic, until a freak interaction between ley-lines took place as caused by a malformed barrier spell which had an unexpected runaway reaction when the caster was rendered disoriented by a concussive-flash grenade.
  • 'Ghosts' and 'strange presences' are actually the result of faster-than-light and dimensional layer technology malfunctions. Malfunctions which have resulted in personnel which were deemed KIA or MIA.

There's a new urban rumor spreading around Asura III.

Sometimes late at night, a woman with snow white hair and shiny golden eyes will ask if you'd like to donate to a worthy cause.
If you say yes, she'd kill you on the spot and dismember your corpse, taking organs while giggling madly.
Say no, and she'll giggle and begin to follow you. If you don't lose her... she'll eventually catch up and kill you.
The only recourse is to ignore her completely. She'll frown but will leave you alone.
(Note: this might not work either. :p)

There has also been a noticeable decline of homeless people, whom have just vanish off the street.

They say that when traveling through FTL deadzones, you can occasionally pick up a hail from the 'ISC Mischief'. Flight recorders recovered from empty ships coming out of these FTL deadzones turn up a blank period of precisely seventeen minutes, during which a casual analysis reveals electromagnetic interference even in ships with the most sophisticated shielding. During this seventeen minutes, the entire crew is somehow removed from the ship without a trace after answering a hail from the Mischief. On one occasion, the Mischief came into visual range before the recording device malfunctioned. Though it was hard to make out through the gas cloud both ships labored through; it was clearly a Geshrin Light Freighter by its silhouette. The only issue was the odd way the bridge seemed open to space. All the stations were visibly manned by frozen-white corpses sitting still at their consoles. The captain sat regally upon his command chair in the center of it all, a uniformed skeleton bearing the logo of some ancient Nepleslian color faction or another.

Or so it seemed. Must've just been the space-fog.

Time for Some Spooky Stuff

Iromakuanhe Urban Legends

  • On Maekardan, the home and capital of the Commonwealth, there is said to be a land below land in the Nuocr Expanse. The Vigil states that is the resting place of the Dreamers, guarded by undying sentinels, but those who travel the sands know better. Rumors of those who know a man who knew a caravan of which a woman's son fell into one of the deep caves tell of something more sinister. Strange, otherworldly creatures roam the stabbing caverns and choking darkness. Things with power above the VANDRs, things that strangle the sanity of those who look upon them.
  • Hlrai is a beautiful and pleasant world, filled with jungles and trimmed by beaches. Settling this world was fairly easy for the Iromakuanhe, but there were many mysteries beheld behind the lush beauty. Specifically, in the Green Reach, there is the story of The Native. It is no tribe, or group, but a single being. Unknown, and shambling, the Native steals children that wonder from their villages and comfortable towns. People say you can hear it coming by the clattering of quartz bone made by the necklace of Iroma horns it wears around its strange body. Though, if you hear the bones, it's already too late.
  • The Third Outer System Conflict in the 920s was a perilous time for the Iromakuanhe. War spawns many fantastic tales of warriors beholden to conflict and terror. Yet, one story pervades between the ranks, learned from the local people. Mu'Klamal was said to be interred in this icy planet by the ancient Makuori, but his wife, whom he slaughtered, became a will of the sorrowful planet itself, adding to his legacy of pain. VANDR pilots of the Astral Vanguard would often hear someone calling for help over the radio in broken cries. Those unfortunate enough to follow these cries were greeted by a terrible scream, which caused the mountains of Mazerin to yield avalanches that would bury the pilots alive.

A recently uncovered folk tale from the colonization of 188604, the legend of the Sand Demon. There are many variations on this story, but this is the oldest version. A long time ago, way before the Osman government formed, when the Ancestors first arrived, there was a house near the Great Green Sea, which was still blue at the time. A family of hardened settlers lived there.

One night, the eldest son was walking out in the fields after dark enjoying the moonlight as he often did when he heard a terrible noise. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. He ran home, afraid to find out what was making the noise. The father told him it must have been the wind.

An hour later a sandstorm blew in. The wind howled and whipped, and then they heard it. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. A few hours later the storm passed and the boy felt like an idiot. A couple days later, after he got up the nerve, he was back out walking after dark.

About half an hour into his walk, the sound started. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. This time, he ignored it and kept walking. A few minutes later it started again, closer now. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. He was getting a little nervous now, so he started heading home. A minute later it started again, almost right behind him. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. He ran home as fast as he could.

When he got home he told his father, but he didn't think anything of it. Just a teenage boy with an overactive imagination. A few minutes later, a sandstorm hit. The sound came almost immediately. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. A few hours later, the storm passed and he felt stupid again.

The next night he was back out there, determined to not let some noise get the best of him. Fifteen minutes into the walk he heard it. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. He wasn't going anywhere this time. The boy was going to find out once and for all what it was. The noise continued, getting closer every time. Eventually, it passed him, and he heard it keep on going the other way. He continued his walk, feeling quite pleased with himself.

When he finished walking he went right home. Strangely, when he walked up to the door it was wide open. A trail of sand led into the house. He followed it through the kitchen and up the stairs. No one knows what the poor boy saw since he never spoke of it to anyone. Some say his family was mutilated beyond recognition. Others say he killed them and made the whole thing up. What we do know is what happened after he walked into the room. He heard the noise. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP.

The boy ran outside to see what had done this horrific thing to his family. It was standing in the distance looking at him. The creature stood upright and was roughly man-shaped except for a few details. The body appeared to be entirely composed of sand. Instead of a normal mouth, it had a huge gash filled with jagged teeth taking up half of its face. The hands ended in massive claws covered in blood. Six tentacles came out of the creature's back, undulating in a rhythmic pattern. There were no visible feet. It looked as if the creature grew out of the ground. As the boy looked on in horror, the horrible mouth changed into a more human shape and it smiled. He was sure he could hear the creature laughing in the distance. It sounded like WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP. WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP.
