Approved Character [Setareh Wing] Rozalija Añuli Simonis

Inactive Member
Rozalija Añuli Simonis is a player character played by Navian.

Species & Gender: Iromakuanhe Female.
Year of Birth: BYE 116, AR 820
Organization: Astral Vanguard
Occupation: Quartermaster
Rank: Senbalri
Preferred Plot: Seterah Wing

Physical Description
Rozalija Simonis is 6'0", broad-shouldered and lithe, weighing about 165 lbs. She has rose pink skin, blue-green eyes, and white hair in a mullet. She somehow manages to look cold and hard, despite being candy-coloured and smiling most of the time. Arms akimbo is her favourite pose. Her face is somewhat pinched, and her horns are bowed out to the sides.

Personality
Roza is aggressive by habit, but not especially driven. She tends to go through life with a lot of inertia, but not much direction. She is slow to learn, adapt, and change, but conversely is quite steady and unflappable. Though she considers herself an intellectual, few others would ever describe her this way; she likes to know everything but doesn't like learning new things. Fortunately, she's had a lot of time and opportunities.

Roza doesn't require company, but enjoys giving instructions and attempting to mediate in disputes. She exults in the presence of efficient workers and patriots, though she can't understand what could motivate someone to be either. Most of her past relationships ended when she felt someone was taking advantage of her, even when this wasn't the case. Her poor ability to read into the motivations of others discourages her from forming close relationships.

History
Rozalija Añuli Simonis was born in AR 820 in Omhe, an Ivuori enclave in the Hashida peaks of Mazerin. Her early life was remarkable only in that she achieved nothing, despite making no effort to be delinquent and having no medical problems. Her daily schedule remained little different from that of a carefree early adolescent even well into her forties, when her parents, in their wisdom, gave her command of a merchant vessel. Roza stumbled through operations until after the company folded, thirty years later, as the ship was too damaged to be repaired without her parents' assistance. In the end, it was sold for scrap to help pay off their debts.

Roza had never been good at anything, but for most of her life, this had somehow gone largely unnoticed. When she found herself unemployed and without support, for once, it was a serious problem. She drifted between odd jobs and miscellaenous salvage work for many years before stumbling into the Astral Vanguard, amid the excitement of first contact with powerful aliens. In the years following, she enjoyed a steady and mediocre career in the general infantry, before finally attaining a position as quartermaster. Though there's some question of whether this was a case of her being 'kicked upstairs', there's no question that Roza considered receiving this position the ultimate vindication of her abilities.

Skills
Rozalija Simonis has the Astral Vanguard Essential Skills, those required by General Infantry, and those needed to work as a Quartermaster, much of which came from her merchant background. This same background has also left her somewhat able to work as an Envoy. She has no other notable skills, but to stretch the definition a little, she used to play a lot of Zero-Gee Repulsion sports, half a lifetime ago, and also dabbled in the popular Ivuori open-hand martial arts style.

Social Connections
Rozalija Simonis has some connection to members of her extended family, former squadmates and crewmembers, and others previously employed by her parents, though the fiscal implosion of her parents' enterprises has left these contacts in disarray. She has a few more surprising contacts from her merchant career, although most people she met between then and her military career became enemies. She has no fewer than four of her own children, and many grandchildren, though she was never a good parent, and never took care of them personally for more than a year or two at a time.

1) Weight should be included.
2) "...few others would ever described her this way;..."is the only grammar or typo error I saw.
3) "Roza is not very empathetic..." The number one feature that distinguishes an Iroma from a human, besides their quartz-like bones and besides their horns for ears, is their ability to be empathetic, even if that is nearly limited to touch, it's a staple of the Iromakuanhe. Saying your character is the opposite of one of the top three distinguishing characteristics is a bit extreme.
4) Why are her horns bowed out to the sides?
Iromakuanhe Wiki said:
Iromakuanhe females have thinner and more elegant horns that curve slightly inwards.

1, 2, and 4: Fixed the typo, added a number. By 'bowed out', that means they have a bow shape, the tips are still curved inward. I think you're thinking of 'splayed out'. The example picture on the page has bow-shaped horns, I'm imagining something similar, but with less definition; a looser shape with no recurve. I'm not too concerned about horn shape, though.

3: I don't think having a special ability called 'Empathy' is the same as having actual empathy. Being able to share someone else's emotions directly, through physical contact, doesn't seem all that helpful for understanding them, and could even be a hindrance to learning how others feel when close contact isn't an option, though I imagine it's very useful for parents of young children.

It doesn't appear to be automatic, either. The page says both of those involved can control what they send through the link, to some extent, and that simply being able to 'feel' someone else's emotions isn't possible; it's a communications channel, not an ability to 'read' others. This is supposed to explain Roza's troubles with past relationships; she doesn't have the skills to know when someone is holding back, or how they're feeling when she's not around, so she tends to get paranoid.

I'm not sure how to rephrase it. The line is literally true, but I guess it's confusing if the definition 'able to share the emotions of others' is assumed. I'll just leave it out. I don't see anything that says having empathy (aside from this telepathic ability) is a common feature of Iroma, and it does make mention of Ivuori sometimes seeming cold and antisocial to others.

Is there anything else? I was expecting history to be where most of the problems are.

Are you referring to how you made up the Omhe enclave? I find nothing wrong with putting a name to your character's home when so many of them are said to have been made. You should probably add if it is on Maekardan.

Is it the way you said "years" instead of AR?

Is it because you said she had a merchant vessel and you're worried the Iroma don't have any made for them? They have been mentioned in articles.

Or are you talking about the way you mentioned starports? Iroma don't really don't use the term "starport".

Salvage work makes sense, odd jobs make sense, infantry makes sense like I mentioned in chat.

What is it you expected me to find?

I was thinking more of how it doesn't explain what use someone from an Ivuori enclave would have for a starship, or where she lived and visited, or what her parents did for a living, or what her hobbies were. I can bring all those up in the RP. I didn't think much about it before posting, but I've got it more or less figured out, now.

If all the Iroma ships are biotech, it also seems strange that one would be decommissioned instead of just regenerated. The time in which she owned the ship was toward the end of the 'stagnant period' where the Iroma weren't building new ships or experimenting with new technology, though, so maybe the ship predates what they've since become famous for.

An ultra-isolationist Ivuori that wants to be even further away from everyone and is given a ship to do just that doesn't sound too far-fetched to me.

Include if you stayed in the Astral Cluster and whereabouts she ventured, then.

The organoid components of their ship can usually last around a century or more, but they don't just get regenerated. So it does make sense they would decommission one.

Can you link Astral Vanguard skills, as well as a hobby and the requisite QM skill?

Are you planning on putting this on the wiki?

I don't think any Iroma ventured outside the Astral Cluster until well after she joined the Astral Vanguard. The Iroma weren't introduced to SARP until 2009, so it would be a pretty big retcon if she ever encountered the other races on her own initiative.

It doesn't look like anyone's written much of interest about anywhere in the Astral Cluster aside from the Iroma home system and Al'Mirzam, which is full of alien ruins, so... I guess there's no need to specify, after all, she's probably been everywhere interesting in the area.

I added a 'skill section', though this character is definitely not focused on having skills.

I'll put it up on the wiki eventually.

Navian, you can't tell me I should have asked you where she went, tell me I'm wrong in saying that anyone could have gone outside of the Astral Cluster and imply I meant they meet other races, then decide you don't need to put where she went. You asked me to ask you and, therefor, it must be important. I asked if she stayed in the Astral Cluster really off-handedly and probably shouldn't have.

Provide suggestions and solutions so this character can get approved, please.

I don't find any problems with the history and like it as it is, what I need to know is that Navian approves of it before it gets locked in.

I asked because I thought there were a lot more possible answers than there are, it turns out the answer is already implied. You should know better than me what's important for your RP; if you don't think there's any problems, there aren't any problems (at least, not yet.)

I hope that's not an implication that there will be problems.

Approved.

@Wes please move it when you get a chance.
