"Hey, it's Rico. I'll be at Leon City Spaceport around 7. Bring Shortstack with ya."

"You fucker, why can't you come get her?"

"Just do it."

Leon City Spaceport. A relatively new spaceport along the outer edge of the capital city, the port was usually a busy transportation hub, facilitating most of the incoming and outgoing shuttles and spacecraft to Fortuna. Rico Sanroma, dressed in casual attire of simple jeans and a white t-shirt, stood patiently at one of the many flight kiosks. The humid weather of the planet wasn't particularly his favorite type of weather; having to forgo his usual leather jacket apparel made him feels a bit uncomfortable. The Nepleslian Casanova glanced at one of the large digital wall-clocks in-between flirtatious glances at the woman behind the kiosk.

Oh my god. thought Suku, Why is it so fucking hot.

Already once the Doctor had to go back to the ship after she found how easy it was for her to sweat in her usual casuals, dragging Carina all along the way. Mainly, she made her walk because she didn't want to get sweat all over the girl, even though she would've liked to have carried her most of the way. As Suku came into view of the Sergeant, she could be seen wearing a button-up blouse, with a few buttons at the top loose, a pair of hot pants, and sandals, to cope with the humidity. Though, her usual angry face was something she never left home without.

Carina trotted right beside Suku, one of her smaller hands grasped by the older woman's. When she looked up at the medical officer, she noted Suku didn't seem to like the weather all that much. But truth be told, Carina thrived in the hot and humid weather of Fortuna. After all, she'd been raised here for awhile and had gotten used to it. Even her outfit reflected this to a degree, shorts that were just above her knees, sneakers and a tank-top. When asked if she'd needed help picking out her clothes for the day, she'd refused already knowing full well the hot Fortunaian weather. As a matter of fact, most of her wardrobe was suited for the weather on the planet.

Rico, in an odd change of pace from their last encounter, gave the two a smile as they approached. His eyes lingered slightly on Suku's odd choice of attire... then again, however, the heat of Fortuna changed a lot of things. When the two were within speaking distance, Rico squatted down to Carina's level and ruffled her hair. "Ya ready to head home, squirt?" Rico asked with a grin.

Suku huffed bitterly, blowing a bit of hair out of her face, but she said nothing.

Carina had remembered the spaceport from her last little jaunt here. She'd just met the man who was ruffling her hair and whom it was known was her father. When he'd smiled at her, she'd returned it, beaming at him. It wasn't until he mentioned home though that her smile faltered slightly. With a little bit of reluctance, she nodded, "Yea'... but mommy isn' there no more tho'."

The suave Nepleslian's smile wavered for a moment. "Ah, yeah...well, I'm talkin' about my home. Back on Nepleslia. You'll like it there," Rico persuaded the little girl, standing up and giving Suku a short nod. He was still a little wary of letting Suku in on any of this business... but at that moment he didn't have much of a choice. "... thanks for bringin' her."

Suku had been looking away from the two at the moment, until Rico caused her to cut her eyes at him from the edge of her vision. She stared for a moment before looking away from him again. "Whatever..." she replied, almost in a murmur, somewhat embarrassed she came out in that shoddy outfit, especially in front of Rico.

Carina made a little sound in her throat as she finally caught on to her father's line of thinking. She immediately yanked her hand free from Suku's grasp, now hiding behind the woman's leg's peering out from behind them at Rico. The little girl wore a somewhat hurt expression on her face as she seemed to latch on to Suku.

"But I don'wanna go... I wanna stay with you."

"I'm comin' with ya on the flight, shortcake," Rico said with a little laugh. "You'll get to stay with my folks, too. An' I can introduce ya to Babs... she'll definitely get some laughs outta this. They'll take good care a' ya," the Nepleslian attempted to assure the little girl before turning around to the flight kiosk, flashing the pretty attendant another smile as he ran a hand through his hair.

Suku placed a hand down on Carina's head, in all honesty, she didn't want to see her go. In the short time the Medical Officer had known the little girl, she had become very attached. She was going to miss the fun they had together Medical Bay, specifically shooting hypolathe needles at Ran's picture. She sighed and stepped aside, giving Carina a light push forward.

I don't want you to go either... Suku thought, but couldn't say, since really, she was only a nanny.

Carina staggered forward a few steps, catching herself after the little push. Sure, she could run, but then the Blues would likely come along and find her before too long. She could cry, but then she'd end up listening to her father carry on about that, and it'd likely make Miss Suku either very mad...or very sad. Not really wanting to go, she opted instead to shuffle over, taking her time with it.

The attendant behind the kiosk cleared her throat, garnering Rico's attention. "I'm sorry, sir, but for the time being we're only running planetary transportation," she explained. "The NMX war near Nepleslia Core has been deemed unsafe for commercial flight, and by law we cannot send shuttles into the military hot zones. My apologies."

"...what? Huh? Really?" Rico stammered in surprise. Things were going so well for him until that point; he had it all planned out. Once he got Carina there, his mother and sister would get so attached to her that they would forbid him from bringing her back to his military ship. It was full-proof... and now it was nothing. "Well... shit, honey," Rico said as he began to rub the back of his neck, forcing himself to smile as best as he could. "Couldn't ya do this one for me? I'm sure there's ONE ship goin' near Nepleslia?"

"I'm sorry sir, but there is not."

"Not even one just for her?" Rico blurted out, now visibly stressed by the development. "I mean, if it's a matter of two people, as long as she gets to where she's goin'..."

"We can't do that, sir."

"Sooooooo..." Suku said, walking up to the desk, and leaning on it. She seemed to be feigning a bit of disappointment. "You're saying that there's absolutely no way this little girl is going to Nepleslia?" She gestured to Carina. With all her might, she fought back a smile. Half the reason, because her little friend was definitely not going anywhere, and Rico had just been served his own dish with a pair of Neko chop sticks.

Carina had missed almost all of the conversation except for the more important bits. Namely hearing what Suku'd just said. Her head, which had currently been lowered, looking at her own feet whipped up so fast it was a wonder it was still attached. The little girl looked from the lady behind the counter, to Rico, and then to Suku, and back to Rico with a widening expression curving her lips. It was a smile, but not one of pure happiness, no, it was smug, a very smug, satisfied happy smile. Even when she'd grown up, she'd have never told her father that at that moment it seemed he was stuck with her whether he liked it or not.

Rico shot the Geshrin doctor a burning glare before turning back to the kiosk attendant. "There's gotta be somethin' you can do to help me out, sweetheart," the sergeant tried one last time to goad the young lady. The expression on her face softened for a moment, but in the end she simply shook her head from side to side once more. "I am very sorry, but there is noth-"

"COME ON!" Rico shouted suddenly, slamming his fist on to the countertop as he interrupted. The attendant jumped back in fright, while a couple of the spaceport security began to look in Rico's direction with grim expressions.

The attendant wasn't the only one who jumped at the sudden outcry, Suku nearly hopped out of her small pants. At first, the Officer seemed somewhat fearful of him before she strode over to him, her eyes on security and the looking back at the attendant. She grabbed his arms and leaned up to him, pressing her chest against his bicep.

"Rico..." Suku whispered in a worried tone to the man. "Chill out, there's nothing we can do about it." she tried smiling at the attendant, to at least try to give a sense of control to the situation.

Rico's other free arm, or rather hand had been taken by his daughter as she stared at the security guards somewhat shyly. The looks on their faces made her want to hide, but she held firm, staying put right beside her father. "Paaaaapppi....some scary lookin' guys are starin' at us." she mumbled looking back at them.

Neither Carina's innocent cries nor Suku's pliable chest seemed to be able to garner Rico's intense stare away from the now thoroughly frightened kiosk attendant. For a minute, the sergeant looked as though he might just explode once more; however, a quick glance to the side did confirm that some rather rough looking men were giving him a tense eye. Heaving a short sigh, Rico rolled his eyes upward and began to turn around, yanking his arms free from the two female's grasps. "Fine. Let's just go," Rico stated, beginning to stomp his way to the exit.

Suku smirked, watching the defeated Rico walk off without trouble. She decided to follow on with him, at least, perhaps just for the show. Ever since the little spat they had back on Nepleslia, they had always seemed to take joy in harassing one another. This was one of those moments where Suku probably should've been running her mouth about 'the best-laid-plans'. Though, a part of her told her not to, as the Casanova didn't look against hitting a woman at the moment.

"So?" was all Suku asked him as she kept in step. It almost sounded like she 'wanted' to hear a back-up plan from the man.

"You're still here?" Rico replied flatly, wincing slightly as they reached the exit. The heat and humidity was much more noticeable outside than it was inside.

"You know, you're being a real dick lately." Suku bit back, not exactly enjoying the attitude, despite how inspecting of it she was. She looked back for a moment to see if Carina was still with them.

Carina soon caught up to them, cradling what looked like three soft drinks in her hand. It seemed she'd taken the opportunity to stop off at a nearby vending machine to grab them some drinks. When she finally caught up to the pair, she was huffing a little, her little cheeks flushed slightly from the exertion. Holding them just so, she freed up one arm, tugging at one of Suku's hands lightly as she held up a drink for her to take.

"Thanks sweetie!" Suku genuinely smiled at the girl, giving her hair a slight ruffle with hand, as she gripped the cold refreshment with the other. No sooner than that, she had already popped the cap and started to take a drink, instantly beginning to feel better about this armpit of a planet.

The little girl's eyes closed reflexively at her hair being ruffled once more, this time by Suku as she returned the older woman's smile, with one of her own, feeling rather accomplished at that moment. After seeing that Suku had gotten her drink, she tugged at her father's shirt, then shook a can as she held it up for him. "Papi....wanna drink?" she asked him sweetly.

"I'm the dick?" Rico shot back, completely ignoring Carina for the moment. The Nepleslian wiped a single bead of sweat off of his brow as he glared daggers at Suku. "I'm tryin' to get the girl somewhere safe, and you're here makin' cracks at me at the fuckin' desk?"

Suku took another sip of her drink, shrugging innocently. She the sighed with relief as she took in the refreshing flavor.

"You know, you could at least pretend there's a bright side to this." said Suku, taking another sip of her drink, and giving him a sly wink. "Besides, I try to take you down a few notches whenever I can."

Not even bothering to try and understand the exchange between the two, Carina kept trying to hand the elder Sanroma the cold drink in her hand. Truth be told, it was starting to make it go a little numb which only urged her on. "Paaaaaappppiiiiiiii!" she said loudly, bumping the can into his arm, letting the cold of the can let him know something was trying to get his attention.

Rico scowled across at Suku. When it came to pushing his buttons, Suku seemed to be an expert. After a moment, Rico wordlessly looked down to Carina and snatched the drink up and placed it on the side of his neck, using the cold to cool his body rather than his throat. "Common," Rico spat to Carina as he kept his eyes trailed onto the aloof medical officer. "We're leavin'."

"Papi..." Carina began slowly, holding her own drink, now open and holding it with both hands as it was too big for just one as she took a sip. "Why you bein' all mad an' stuff for?" she asked with only a child's grasp of the situation and understanding of the more adult matters at hand. Two adults were poking at each other, and one was grumpy, the other looking rather smug about it all. Really, to her it was like when she went to school in Culture Town, kids used to do it all the time and now she was seeing it between the two of them.

"She's just bein' a bitch," Rico replied venomously, caring little for Suku's close proximity. "Big surprise there." The Nepleslian turned to the street, hoping to perhaps wave a taxi down. Now that he wasn't heading home to Nepleslia, his plans for lodging were relatively shot. He'd have to make something up as he went along.

"Whoa, what? Excuse me?" Suku's attitude was about to flare into her drink as she tailed the man. At first, it seemed as if she found the whole situation rather funny, but that was until she passed the man and stopped in his path. "I'm a bitch? Big surprise there? Do you even know what it's like to care for a child during work hours? Barely getting any time to yourself when you want it? You know what? I love that little squirt, but playing momma has put me in-between murder and pulling my hair out."

Suku thrust a finger into his chest.

"Oh, big manly Marine's gotta' fight the good fight. Fuck you. You're all about protecting her, sending her home, but have you even thought for a fucking second how she feels about not having her father there!?" The Doctor started in a shrill tone as the tears edged in her eyes. "Do you even know what it's like when your daddy doesn't even give you the time of day? Do you know how rejected a little girl in a man's world can feel when that happens to her?"

Rico gave her a once-over as she gave her speech. Truthfully, he couldn't relate to her sentiments... and as such he couldn't truly share them "Hey!" Rico flared back at the doctor, batting her finger pressed against his chest away. "I didn't ask for this shit, but I got it anyway. An' I'm gonna fix it the best way I can." In Rico's anger, the rest of the world seemed to fade in significance. "I don't need some kid trailin' around behind me, 'specially in a war! An' really, neither do you. So fuck off."

Watching the seemingly small scale war between the two escalate, Carina had put her drink down on the ground before grabbing at Rico's free hand, holding it tightly. She looked up at him, and then over to Suku before looking down at the ground a little bit. It was clear if either of them had the sense to look, that their fighting was causing the child some distress, and really she didn't have much of an idea of how to cope with it beyond begging for it to stop.

"Miss Suku..." her voice a little reluctant, strained as she looked from the ground over to the angry man she stood beside. "Papi... please don' fight no more... It's makin' me sad watchin' you two fightin' like that. Did I do somethin' wrong?" asking, feeling she was the root of the two adult's heated tempers, and it seemed she wasn't too far from the truth. "I'll be'a good girl if you stop fightin'...I promise... please stop..." Carina's voice trailed off, sounding pitifully strained as she resisted the urge to cry. That didn't stop her eyes from welling up a little though.

It was until Carina began making her distress known that Suku quickly gave up her end of the fight. Her deviled stare melted away into one somewhat of concern as she looked down at Carina. Of course, she was happy to have her around, but at the same time? Not even the little girl would be able to take all of this at once. She looked at Rico, and then at Carina before clearing her throat and putting on her best smile.

"No!" Suku said reassuringly, squatting down to address the girl, "It's not your fault, it's..."

The Medical Officer seemed to have great trouble admitted this next part.

"My fault. I'm just getting caught up in grown-up business, and I'm doing a bad thing by taking it out on your Papi..." Suku smiled with the small amount of strength she had to smile. She looked up at him, and the to her, "I was wrong to do that, sweetie. I'm..."

Suku cleared her throat, taking a few second to shove her pride in a box. She looked up at Rico again and the back at the young Sanroma she was addressing.

"I'm sorry." she said in a strained, but honest tone.

Rico's expression softened a small bit as Suku explained to Carina. He was still angry... but now, for some reason, it felt odd to be mad with her. He continued to do his best, however, by simply not making a direct response. Instead, Rico resumed trying to wave down a cab, eventually succeeding as one pulled onto the curb. The Nepleslian looked back at Suku and Carina, his face strewn with tired discontent, glancing down to Carina to see if she was ready to go.

Carina still hung on to Rico's hand as Suku made her seemingly heartfelt little speech and apology. When her father had looked down at her though, she instinctively reached out, and grabbed one of Suku's hands with her free one, fully intent on keeping the woman with them.

Suku wordless looked at Carina, a small smile on her face, mostly because of the little girls affection. She looked up at Rico, shrugging with a somewhat innocent face.

As the cab came to a rest, the driver on the inside used his thumb to gesture towards a sign in the back, reading "DA credit only". Rico turned and wordlessly exchanged glances between the two of them, heaving a long, tired sigh as he reached into his pocket. "Look, I ain't payin' to have ya tag along. Shit, I shouldn't be payin' for two in the first pl-" the Nepleslia stopped his sentence short as his hand swam around in his pocket. There was simply nothing in it... which was problematic, as he kept all of his money in his pockets. In this particular case, his uniform pants pocket, which was still on the NSS Acadia well out of reach.

Rico's expression turned completely blank for a moment as he continued to stare at Suku and Carina, his face turning a slight shade of red from either the agitation or the embarrassment, most likely equal amounts of both. Instead of throwing a fit as he had done inside of the spaceport, however, Rico simply sighed though clenched teeth, staring upward. The cab driver, thinking his presence was being ignored, rapped his knuckles against the side of his door to garner Rico's attention once more. "You need a ride or not, chief."

The little girl attached to Rico's hand tugged at it a moment breaking the grip she had on Suku's hand. Her hand went into her back pocket and she pulled out a little Phalanx Phillip wallet. Jumping up and down, trying to show it to him, she waved it up at him as she did so, wanting to help. "Papi! Papi!" she said, waving it up to him.

Rico narrowed his eyes weakly onto the jumping girl. The object in her hand seemed to be some sort of wallet... although it wasn't his. "... what's that? And where did ya get it?"

Carina stopped her hopping, looking away a little too suspiciously. "Tha' wallet? It's mine..." she murmured shifting from foot to foot a little as she did so. She opened it, and pulled out a green DA card with a white stripe along with a circle and green star in the middle.

"Aw, she wants to help pay for the fare." Suku said sweetly, wrapping her arms around the girl. Though, it took her to second to realize the fact that she had a credit card. "Wait... Who tha' fuck gives a seven-year-old a credit card?"

"Don't look at me," Rico said, sounding just as surprised.

Carina's cheeks flushed slightly at being hugged, as well as the question. She squirmed a little in Suku's arms looking up at her father then waving the DA card at him somewhat frantically. She, apparently was being tight-lipped about it.

Despite the alarming number of questions it put into his mind, Rico wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Snatching up the DA card, Rico couldn't help but smile a bit at how well this mishap had turned out. "Thanks squirt," was all he could say before handing the card to the cabby. While the man was processing the credit, however, Rico turned back around, crossed his arms and gave Suku a hard stare. "I'm gonna be honest here; I don't need you taggin' along."

"Hm." Suku arched a brow at Rico, not necessarily caring for his adamant dislike of her hanging. She almost wanted to stay around just to spite him. "Well, as much as I'd like to split, I think it's up to this one right here who gets to go, and who doesn't." said the Suku with a matter-of-fact look on her face, while patting Carina on the shoulder. "I mean, she did pay for it."

"Yea' I want Miss Suku to come to!" Carina piped up from where she was standing. After all as Suku said, she did "pay" for it after all. As if to try and make certain of this fact, she'd let go of Rico's hand, now standing right beside Suku, taking her hand again.

Even Rico couldn't argue with the majority rule, as well as the fact that she did pay for it. Of course, that didn't mean he had to enjoy it. Scratching the back of his head in an irritated fashion, Rico sighed in defeat and turned back to the cab driver. "I saw a hotel a couple a' blocks down that way," Rico mumbled as he pointed down the street. "Ya know the place?" The driver nodded once and unlocked the back doors, handing Rico back the DA card Carina had given him. He placed it in his back pocket, anticipating needing to use it once more before the night was over.

Suku nodded to Rico and smiled at Carina, ushering her into the Taxi. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't really thought of a place to crash at herself. Even if it was in the same building, she wouldn't mind getting a room at this place Rico was talking about.

Re: [Shore Leave] The Best Laid Plans: Part Two

Something that the trio had not foreseen on their quest for lodging was that there were many like them. The temporary blockade between the Colonial Expanse and the core systems affected the entire planet, and those stranded people also needed their own homes away from home. When the three of them arrived in the second-rate hotel, the clerk behind the front desk could only offer them a single room between the three of them... and barely one to even mention. Rico, already quite aggravated by the events of the day, took a few minutes exploding and making a scene at the front desk before eventually relenting. Suku wasn't too pleased either, only, she was able contain herself by simply grasping one of Carina's hands, and calmly cursing under her breath.

When Rico reached the door and opened it, the three of them were greeted with the most remarkably bland apartment in Leon City. A single bedroom, and single bathroom, and a small living area, complete with ruddy couch and cheap television. Unremarkable in every way, but it was better than sleeping in a box outside in the alley.

"Uh..." Suku stared malcontent at the room. She looked at Rico, and then at Carina. Then, towards the bedroom. "Icallthebed." swiftly spoke the medical officer as she darted forward through the door.

"WHAT," Rico exclaimed as he watched Suku dart forward. He definitely wasn't going to give that up without a proper fight. Bursting forward, Rico grasped for anything on Suku he could grab and yank backward, doing his absolute best to get to the door first.

Suku felt her blouse her compress her chest in as Rico grabbed her shirt tail. She nearly fell backwards if not for the fact that she dug her nails into his sleeve and pulled herself back forward. This caused the both of them to slow for a moment as she seemed to pull him back, and herself forward, enough for her to trip past him, edging close to the door.

While Rico and Suku contented themselves to fight for control of the bed, Carina had opted to seat herself on the least crappy portion of the couch possible, TV remote in hand and begun flipping through the channels. She stopped dead on one of the cartoon networks as the opening theme to the Phalanx Phillip show came on. Carina let out a little trill of approval, clapping her hands together as she settled in, uncaring of the fighting for the bed.

Foiled at his attempt to burst past Suku, Rico lost his balance and fell forward, sliding for a few feet on the stained carpet. Cursing under his breath, Rico pounded a fist on the floor in defeat and eventually rose up. "Jeez, fine... but since ya got the bed, the squirt sleeps with you."

"Pfft, okay." Suku shrugged, showing that it was not exactly that big of a deal. She had been bunking with Carina in the last few weeks, basically since no one wanted to give up their bunk for a little girl. So, bunking in the small bed was actually better than the usual.

"Whatcha' think 'bout that, sweetie?" The doctor smiled at the young girl.

With the matter of the bedroom settle and the two ladies occupied, Rico swept off the small kitchen area, scanning the walls until he found a single phone hung near the sink. Picking up the receiver, Rico dialed for his home in Los Apagos. He didn't call all that often, mostly because he was usually busy, what with being a soldier in a universe that seems incapable of having any modicum of peace. To his delight, someone on the other end was there to answer.

"Esma! It's Rico," the suave Nepleslian said with a grin. Esma, his older sister, was always the more responsible one; perhaps today was the day when her sense of responsibility would actually help him out rather than work against him. "D'ya think you could, ah, get that asshole husband a' yours to swing out in his company shuttle an' come get me on Fortuna?"

The person on the other end of the line didn't give an answer for a very long time. "... Rico, what the hell are you talking about."

"Ah, nothin'..." Rico lied between his smile. "I'm just on shore leave for a lil' while an' I... ah... wanna visit?" Even Rico had to stretch his final line a bit to make it sound convincing.

Esma, unfortunately, caught onto it pretty quickly. She did, after all, know Rico for most of his life. "Look Rico. Whatever you did, you're gonna have to deal with it. Roger came back from Delsauria early. He said there's some sorta safety ban on travel between your neck a' the woods and here. So work it out yourself. Dumbass," Esma ended on a remarkably positive note before hanging up on her younger brother. By that time, though, Rico was already stringing curses together at the confirmation of his fears; he was stuck with Carina. At least for the moment.

Holding his head in his hands for a moment, Rico recollected his thoughts. He desperately wanted to get rid of Carina, but at the moment that was impossible. And worse, he was stuck with the last person he'd be staying in a hotel with. The times were grim indeed, but the Nepleslian would have to stick with it and hope for the best.

Carina who seemed wrapped up in her own little world as the show came on snapped to when Suku spoke to her. Truth be told she hadn't heard a word of it, having been concentrating on the show. "Hrmmm?" she questioned, looking over to Suku with a confused expression on her little face.

Suku walked over to Carina and plopped down on the couch next to her. "You're bunkin' with me! Again." She shrugged, not really having much behind that since it wasn't unusual. With that aside, she stared over at the screen "So, whatcha' watchin'?"

"...Phalanx Phillip." Carina replied, scooting over to Suku, resting her head on the other woman's arm as her eye stayed wrapped up on the TV before her.

Oh god, Phalanx Phillip? Suku thought shrilly, an apparent grimace came on her face. When she was younger, she used to love the show, up until her older brothers started watching it too. She had been an avid fan, but her rough and tumble brothers took it all a little too seroiusly, and it eventually turned the whole series off for her.

"Uh, really? I hadn't seen this show in ages." The doctor spoke unexcitedly.

Carina nodded her heard vigorously. "Yea, I used ta' watch it a lot when I waited for mommy ta' come home from work an' stuff. There'a lotta Yamataian cartoons on tho' but, I don' like'em, they're kinda silly."

"I know right? All it ever seems is a bunch of cats meowing and licking eachother. There's no point to it, there's no action." Suku agreed with her, remembering some of the shows she used to watch back in Nexim City. A lot of Yamataian programming was either made for toddlers or so cute it disgusted her.

"Now they got one about some kinda lil' kittens runin' around, tryin' to stay away from some silly jellyfish or somethin'." Carina said with little disgust in her voice, she didn't particularly care for the shows, unintentionally sharing Suku's sentiments.

"It's so fucking retarded! No wonder the Yammies and Nekos are so messed up in the head. They need some decent T.V." Suku huffed, agreeing wholeheartedly with the girl. "You know, I heard that Yammies don't like Phalanx Phillip."

Carina's lips immediately went down into a frown. "Mommy always said, 'Fuckin' cats don' know what's good'for'em'." she recited from memory burrowing into Suku a little bit. In truth, her mother hadn't a caring bone in her body for the Yamataians.

"Y'momma sounded like a smart person." Suku said in a light respect, she didn't exactly feel all that comfortable talking about the girl’s mother. Mainly, it was due to the way the woman had died. She rested an arm around Carina, enjoying the closeness. It wasn't very often that she could just sit like this with someone, so she enjoyed it while it lasted.

Breaking their heartwarming short, Rico approached the couch and sat down on an unoccupied end. He was glad to have time to rest after the strenuous day, stretching his legs out as he leaned his head back. "Ya know... you two are in my bed," the Nepleslian pointed out with a somewhat bitter tone, still a bit sore from his recent loss of the bedroom.

Suku looked over at Rico plainly, she seemed to be considering something. She shook Carina a little bit with a shake of her hips and winked at the Casanova. Perhaps after the somewhat up and down day, it was time to play a little bit.

"Aw, I was hoping to cuddle a little before bed." Suku said in complaint, pouting her lips a little bit. The hand that was around it was a tad obvious that she was trying hard to stifle some giggling behind her affectionate mask.

Rico rolled his head around his neck slowly in Suku's direction, giving her an unamused stare.

"What?" She replied playfully, once again, rarely knowing when to stop. "Has the 'Great Rico Sanroma' grown tired of women?"

That was a good question. Rico had to admit, he hadn't been feeling too hot since that morning. With any other woman, he would have been all over it, far before this point. And there wouldn't have been an argument about sleeping arrangements. He felt odd, he didn't like it, and apparently Suku was not making it any better. As such, Rico didn't give an answer, just simply continued to give the woman a tired stare.

"Aw, c'mon, sweetheart." said Suku, taking one of Rico's key-identifiers whenever he tried to sweet talk someone. "Why not give a smile?" Once again, she had to stifle a giggle. "For Carina? Or maybe, how about..." She undid one of the buttons at the top of her blouse, "For me?"

Carina had gone back to watching the TV. However...when her name had been mentioned, she looked over to Suku, having half heard the conversation as well. Looking a little confused, she looked between the two, having literally, no idea on what was going on between the pair.

Instead of a smile, Rico quickly began to scowl again. "...what the hell're you doin'," he mumbled, aggravated by her attitude.

"Sheesh! Ease up." Suku groaned mockingly, fighting the smile on her face. She looked down at Carina, "Sweetie, it looks like Papi is in a bad mood." Those devious purple eyes looked up at Rico, "Maybe we should head to our comfy bed, and leave this lumpy couch to him."

"Mrrrr...."Carina mumbled, pawing at her eyes a little as she nodded to Suku. The girl held out her arms, fully intent on being carried there.

"Alright! Time for bed!" Suku stood, and then wrapped her arms around the younger Sanroma. Before marching off victoriously to bed, she decided to give a very smug look to Rico, similar to the one his daughter gave him earlier in the day. For once, it felt good to be on top. Standing over Rico like she did made her feel as if she got her cake and was eating it right in front him. Though, as she got to the door of the bed room, she looked back at him. Deep inside, she felt somewhat guilty, even worse she almost felt like actually 'consoling' him on his day.

With those thoughts muddling her mind, she slowly closed the door, and went to bed.

Re: [Shore Leave] The Best Laid Plans: Part Three

Rico sat slumped on his ruddy couch for an hour or so after the two young women had left, staring blankly into the television as he sat in his simple white shirt and pair of black boxer shorts, forgoing the pants he had brought in an attempt to beat the humidity still lingering in the air. In truth, the Nepleslian was smoldering; Suku's attitude, especially as she was heading off to sleep, was absolutely burning him up. He didn't know what her problem was; she was always angry, and yet he never really saw a reason for it. What was her problem with him? The more he thought about it, the more bitter he got. Rico groaned a sigh, idly shifted his weight on the sofa.

BOP, BEEP

The sound of message being received on a DataJockey erupted loudly from one Rico's pockets, destroying the peaceful silence of the living room. If it wasn't enough, there was an intense amount of pulsing vibrations come from the same spot.

The loud sound caused Rico to jump, looking down at his pocket. "Oh yeah..." Rico murmured as he reached into his pocket, producing Suku Matsobuki's datapad. He had forgotten he'd taken in with him, which was probably the reason he forgot his wallet in the first place. As he looked over the datajockey, Rico suddenly realized that he had the answer to his previous question right there in his hands. Perhaps Suku had written down what was putting a permanent knot in her underwear. The sergeant tapped the screen, intent on perusing through more of the information on the device.

The screen popped up a large, notification that read, "MESSAGE RECEIVED" with two large selection boxes, one marked 'Read', and the other 'Close'.

Normally, Rico would be more than happy to pry into another person's business. However, for the moment, he was a man on a mission. He selected the 'close' option, instead bringing up a search queue for all files pertaining to or containing his name, 'Rico Sanroma'.

Several journal entries came up, spanning the range of her three different categories. Three boxes showed up, marked 'NSS Alliance', 'Post-Alliance', and 'NSS Acadia'.

Having already heard most of the logs from the NSS Alliance, Rico selected Post-Alliance, continuing along the path.

A journal entry popped up, revealing it to be the date near the time Rico had met up with Fian and Kokuten, and then was eventually joined by the Nurse herself.

I'm just not too sure what to feel anymore. Seeing Rico again? I wasn't ready for that. Especially when all I was expecting was Kokuten(that boring shit). After that whole incident at Kennewes, I felt cast aside, and angry. I know I wasn't anything special to him, but that fucking asshole was something special to me. Ever since the Alliance broke up, I just got angry every time I thought of him. At the same time, I had to ask myself why I was thinking of him.

One of my courses back in the Nurse training courses was 'Psychological Evaluation', in where we look for physical signs to understand the minds of others. I decided to use it on myself, and I found myself to be hung-on the man(Pretty sure I've got that in an entry a few months back), which normally I would think is bullshit, but that night, it proved that my evaluation was right. I mean, I threw on a bunch of lingerie just so he'd pay attention for five seconds. Who the fuck does that?

I'm feeling horrible, partly because I nearly beat the shit out of Rico, another part because I drove off Fian and got Kokuten sent to jail. At the risk of sounding like an emotional wreck, I just cause damage wherever I go when someone like Rico is involved.

But this all started because I got attached to the man, this whole fiasco, this fucked up relationship, is because I got too close like some high-school girl. So, from now on, I'm going to drive that fucker off whenever I see him. For the sake of my own sanity and my unbridled fucking rage, I'm just going to be the biggest bitch I can, and hope he runs off.

Maybe I can get a dog or something...

After taking the time to read through Suku's entry, Rico leaned farther back into the couch and release a long sigh. The datapad lying in his hand beside him, the Nepleslian stared up at the ceiling and mulled what he had read over another time. It was a lot to take in; he knew, at the time of their separation, that Suku was still a little attached. That was a while ago, though, and Suku was still angry every time she saw him. Yet, she found the strength and time to stick around for Carina, when Rico himself wouldn't be bothered to. Rico wasn't sure how that made him feel. He wasn't pissed off anymore, but he certainly wasn't any happier, or satisfied with the answer he had obtained.

Thinking back on the day Rico left her high and dry, he sighed and shook his head disapprovingly. At the time, he couldn’t actually bring himself to actually give her a reason as to why he wished to cut their relationship so painfully short. He knew, from his own personal experience, that being let go in such a manner wasn’t the easiest of break-up methods. He also knew, however, that being led along by a person like himself was much more painful to deal with. Wounds such as these didn’t heal quickly, or without leaving scars. Thinking he had put it behind him was foolish, as reading Suku’s thoughts had so deftly proven. He knew how she felt, and he knew how he felt about her; it had made his decision an even more difficult one to make.

Picking the datapad back up, Rico decided to go on, bringing up the more recent entry that Suku had wrote on the Acadia.

Okay, I haven't written anything in awhile, and Carina just fell asleep, so I'm going to take some time finally get a fuckin' journal entry. It feels weird, with no time to make these little entries, it almost feels like something new again. I almost don't know what to write about...

Carina, she's been a big part of my life lately. At first, I thought this was going to be a horrible mistake. I took care of kids when I was babysitter, but I fucking hated it. Those god damn kids drove me up the wall. But, Carina's different, somehow. I don't know if it's because someone off'd her momma, or Rico's her daddy, but she's definitely a unique girl. She catches on so fast, when I thought most kids her age were as about as smart as some of the marines on this ship. Not only that, she's so ADORABLE, just about everything she does is cute, everything.

Yesterday, I caught myself while I was telling her not touch the scalpels on the examination table. I scooped her up and gave her a stern talking. Which doesn't fucking sound like me. I can already tell that I'm getting attached to her, mainly because I'm pretty pretending to be her mother. Who's dead, I get chills every time I think of it. This sort of thing has happened before, I meet someone who doesn't hate me for my attitude, or my green hair, and then I find out they aren't dipshits. Which is rare. So, I get attached, cause I enjoy the attention, and the companionship. Ironic since I tend to be such a bitch.

Speaking of bitches, Rico's presence never helps. I keep remember what I told myself a long time ago, and I do what I can to get him to fuck off. But I can't take seeing him all the time, he's so close, yet so fucking far. Maybe if I tried loosening up a bit, we could talk, at least be friends.

No... I wouldn't be satisfied with that, that asshole just needs to keep his distance, and his face out of my sight. If he hates me, then he'll stay the fuck away, right? Right...

The rest of the entry trailed on about other daily happenings and how much she hated filing medical forms. Nothing much more that would interest a Sanroma.

Rico couldn't help but crack a smile at the several mentions of Carina. Somehow, reading it from someone else made it sound like she was less of a burden than what Rico saw it. Of course, Rico did his own amount of teaching whenever Suku managed to push the kid onto him. Just the other day, the two Sanroma's had a very serious discussion on how to successfully lift objects off of unsuspecting victims; an essential skill, in Rico's opinion. To see, or read rather, that Suku was teaching Carina other things... Rico wasn't too certain how he felt about that.

BOP, BEEP another message was received by the DataJockey, but this time, it was loud due to the fact that the DataJockey hadn't been stuffed in Rico's pocket. A message on the screen popped up, much like the previous one, asking if Rico wanted to read Suku's recently read message.

At that same moment, footsteps could be heard from the bed room.

Still a little lost in thought, Rico didn't catch the light footsteps emitting from behind the closed bedroom door. He was still staring at the paragraphs on the datajockey, the light from the screen illuminating his face in a paler shade of light than the television, still on, in front of the sofa.

From the faint light in the room, Rico, if he was looking, would see the short frame of the fearsome Medical Officer stepping out of the room and lightly closing the door. The woman was wearing the unbuttoned blouse, and just her panties, from what could be seen as an attempt to get more comfortable with what she had brought with her. She walked up and leaned towards, Rico, clearly furious.

"What the fuck are you doing in here? Looking at porn? You almost woke Carina up, and you sure as hell wok--..." Suku venomously spoke in hushed tones until her dimly lit eyes caught sight of the datapad, and then the familiar Corgi sticker on the back of it. It was her DataJockey, and Rico was reading it like the Sunday morning paper. Suku froze in her leaned stance, staring at the DataJockey and then at Rico, her face a mix of horror and rage. She almost yelled, but caught herself by sucking the air in. Her breathing picked up, and the by the looks of it, she was about to snap.

Rico's head jerked up in surprise as he heard Suku speak, nearly dropping the datapad in his hands as he squinted off into the dimly-lit room. For a split second he exchanged fearful glances between both Suku and the datapad in his hand; he had been caught red-handed, there was no doubt. Instead of making an excuse or taking his chances in the humid Fortuna night, Rico heaved a long, drawn-out sigh and put on a calm, collected face as he leaned back into his seat and stared up at Suku, ready for her reaction.

"You, uh... wanna sit down?" Rico asked in a hushed voice, secretly praying his ploy would work, lest the Leon City police find his corpse later in the morning.

Oh my god. He knows everything, he has to, he's had enough time to read it all four times and memorize it. Thought Suku shrilly, which caused the horror in her face to take more hold than the anger. She didn't know what to do, she felt violated, betrayed, and scared all at once. The one man she wanted to keep most of her secrets from is now, in his hands, holding them. She wanted to kill him for getting into her personal thoughts, and using Carina to do it. Though, that would only serve to harm all parties. His offer to sit didn't go ignored; she decided to ride this out, having little idea of how it would end.

She said nothing, and turned her head away from him. Giving him only the sight of the back her green haired head. Personally, she didn't want him seeing her expression any more than he already had.

Rico didn't turn in her direction either, choosing to simply stare forward as he relaxed a bit, setting the datapad down in the area between them. There were a lot of things on his mind at that moment, ranging from how she would act when she got the datapad back to her rather risqué attire which, despite his best efforts could not ignore. Rico cleared his throat as quietly as he could, starting to speak while he kept his eyes averted.

"The squirt. She's, ah, somethin' else, yeah?" Rico asked out of the blue.

"Yeah." was all Suku said, in what sounded to be a hurt, rasped tone. She crossed her arms, and looked towards him for a moment, and then looked away again.

"I think..." Rico continued, pausing for a moment before going on. "I owe ya an apology."

"Fuck you..." Suku replied, not wanting anything from him. "You got what you wanted, I don't give a shit if you want to act nice about it or not. Just... give it back to me."

With that, she held out her hand for the DataJockey, but didn't dare turn to face him.

"What?" Rico replied, confused for a moment before turning and noticing her outstretched hand. With a single nod, Rico picked up the datapad and put it in her hand. "Nah, I mean... I'm talkin' about the kid," he continued on, the tone of his voice low and somewhat sheepish. "You've, ah, been takin' care a' her a whole lot. Teachin' her a whole lot. I... guess I kinda took it for granted. A lil'."

"Really." Her head dipped for a moment with the word as she took the pad and stared at it, before looking back towards shadowed walls. "What changed your mind?" she said in a curious tone, the DataJockey being held up for all to see. She turned to look at him from the corner of her eye. "This? Was it a fucking eye opener? Did you enjoy the good read? I hope it was entertaining." The poison in her words was evident, and the half-given gaze to Rico was locked on him, daring him to respond.

He didn't immediately respond, instead shifting his weight forward, resting his elbows on his knees and lacing his fingers together before putting his chin atop the knuckles. "...yeah," Rico answered truthfully for once, not sounding too proud about the answer itself. "I mean... I dunno. Can't say I enjoyed it."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean for all my personal thoughts to be so boring." Suku spat, as she kept a solid and rigid lean against the couch. She looked away from him. This was something she had never wanted to deal with, and the fact that she was a burden in itself in her mind. That Journal had been her crutch for the last four years of her life, and she was sure of it that Rico new just about every pressure and thought put into it.

Rico breathed a heavy sigh, the rush of warm air running over his entwined fingers as he continued to keep his eyes averted. Her anger, as justified as it was, still ate away at his insides."There's no way to send her to my folks in Los Apagos, and chances are I won't get another chance for a while," Rico continued, doing his best to keep his mind on a single track. "Do you still wanna help look after her or not."

"Of course I will, what you did isn't her fault." Suku said again in her antagonizing fashion. "She deserves a whole lot better than what she's getting. She's a good girl. For her, I can take dealing with you."

"Yeah," Rico agreed, nodding along with Suku's words until she had finished. The Nepleslian was doing his absolute best to be professional about all of this… but her attitude was grating away at Rico’s fortitude. He then turned to Suku and furrowed his brow, changing to a more serious tone. "Then we need to sort this shit... whatever this shit is. 'Cause it ain't helpin' her. And it ain't helpin' either of us."

Suku was silent for almost a minute, she honestly didn't feel like having anything to do with the Sergeant. She shifted in her position and then looked over at Rico, staring him in the eyes, her gaze almost defiant of him. It appeared as if she was about to out-right refuse the man, but instead she spoke.

"Fine, you wanna' talk? Let's talk. 'Cause apparently you didn't get enough of my journal." Suku growled in her hushed voice, unable to help the attitude that slipped through.

"Look! It was supposed to be a joke-" Rico started at first, his volume growing and attitude flaring for a moment. Fortunately, he appeared to realize where he was going and combed his finger through his hair with a sigh, gripping a tuft from the front and pulling at it with his clenched fist. "...yeah, guess I did fuck up there, didn' I?"

That one caught Suku off her guard, her face twisted in surprise and halted in a blank stare. "Y-...Yeah. You did." was what Suku found herself saying. Though, it seemed to be all she could muster from that response, and she looked away again. "So. You wanted to talk?" Suku's face unreadable from the angle she gave him.

"Yeah," Rico said, turning back to his direction. He almost felt embarrassed, having to speak to Suku in this way. He didn't do these types of talks all that often, after all. "It's pretty obvious you have it out for my neck," the man continued. "an' I can handle a jab or two... but I got my limits. If yer gonna be hangin' around with kid, ya need to stop blowin' up in my face every time I look atcha'..." Rico paused abruptly for a moment in between his accusation, leaning back into the chair as he slowly massaged the back of his neck. He had come to a not-so-startling realization; her condition was the product of his own actions. "...guess that's kinda my fault too, huh. Jeez."

"Rico..." Suku said, turning towards him, switching around to face him. To hear the Sanroma admit his wrondoing's once was a rarity, but to hear it twice in one day? That was something not even his own mother would likely expect. "No..." the Medical Officer's face softened, thinking that it was perhaps her turn. "It's not... It's not your fault, okay? If you looked in this thing enough, you'd know I'm fucking ga ga for you, but that sort of thing just isn't meant to happen. We weren't meant to happen, but I never really let go of you."

She sighed, leaning into the back of the couch, gaining enough willpower to get it all out.

"So? I figured that if I was a bitch enough, you'd leave me alone, and I'd never have to deal with you. But... I never expected something like Carina to come along. Now?" she gained a pained expression on her face, realizing she really was trapped in a vicious cycle. Suku turned away from him, with one last heavy breath, she finished, "I just want you to go away."

As Rico listened to Suku go on, he remembered back to the entries he had read on her datapad. He knew what she was feeling... perhaps a little too well, from personal experience. His reasons for severing their first relationship were his own, but his feelings had remained the same. During the period before Carina was there to unwillingly join the two, Rico was doing the same thing Suku was trying to achieve; complete avoidance at all costs. It started off well; whenever he saw her, he would just turn on his heel. Over time, however… it became seemingly harder to avoid her completely. He couldn't help but smile, once again, at further mention of Carina. The child had thrown a wrench in Rico's perfect plans, causing the two adults to face their opposites. Rico realized that he preferred it like this, for one odd reason or another. If Rico was going to keep it that way, things had to change.

Rico straightened up a bit, clearing his throat again as he did his best to keep his eyes pointed forward. "...an' what if... I didn't wanna go away?"

What? Suku thought, she turned, and looked at him again. It was a face few had ever seen, one filled with doubt, confusion, and weakness. It was the face of someone who had everything she stood on snatched away for one brief moment. Her purple eyes searched his face, what she could see of it. For a moment, she believed him, but still riddled with how unsure she was anything at this point, she could only muster a few shaky words.

"D-Don't... Don't fuck with me... I... I've been... I've been lied to enough."

When Rico saw Suku turn out of the corner of his eye, he also slowly turned to face her as she spoke. He said nothing for a painfully long moment, before a smile slowly began to cross across his face, illuminated by the dim light. "What if I like seein' ya mad? If ya got the right reasons, a’ course,” Rico said with a shrug. It was the truth; despite himself, Rico had always loved to flirt with danger, and Suku was a special kind of hazard that he knew was difficult to find… and even more difficult to keep. “What if I prefer the Suku that I knew before... all a' this happened? Before I screwed it up?" He knew he loved testing the woman’s anger, as long as he knew he deserved it; he was an instigator by nature, after all, with an unhealthy preference for fiery women. Rico settled back into his seat once more, but continued to smile softly at the woman.

"Think ya could put up with me?"

Suku's features softened, into an understanding glow that only seemed to be magnified by the lighting of the crappy T.V. in a ruddy apartment. All of this, everything was hard to believe. For such a long time, she had told herself to hate this man, and everything about him. Though, when she thought about it, she was never truly acting the way she wanted, the way that had attracted Rico's gaze in the first place. She edged over on the couch, getting close to him, giving him that same defiant look she gave him when he had met her in the Med-Bay, when she threatened him with a bottle of syntheto-skin. The same way when he bailed her out of trouble and showed her one of the best nights of her life.

"Rico..." She said softly against the stillness of the night, a little confidence rang in her voice, her own sly smile spreading on her face, "I think I can handle you, just fine. I think the only question is, can you handle me?"

Rico allowed her to move in across the couch, his eyes locked onto her. As her expression changed, his own smile just seemed to grow in strength. "Handle you? Probably not," he answered suddenly with a short laugh, raising his hand and gently brushing a few strands of her emerald hair behind her ear, the tips of his fingers lightly resting on the side of her face. "but I can give it a shot."

"Well." Suku said, a certain glint striking her eye. "Why don't you show me what you're made of, Soldier?" Taking the initiative, she leaned up and placed her lips on his, savoring the man she had longed for. Rico leaned in as he saw her face approaching to meet his, drinking in the hot and heavy aroma of her breath upon his. Not to be outdone, he carefully placed his hands onto Suku's cheeks to hold her in place and prolong the moment which, thankful, seemed to last much longer than it truly did. A moment that, unlike the last, he had no doubts about.

"...Suku..."

"...Rico..."

Re: [Shore Leave] The Best Laid Plans: Epilogue

After a goodnight's sleep on a lumpy mattress, equally crappy sheets and a ratty blanket. Carina sat up, her hair all in disarray as it usually was when she woke up. The sun was out, shining through the ruddy glass of the window causing her to squint now rubbing at her eyes. She looked over to where Suku had been sleeping, only finding a disturbed section of the bed where she'd been. The little girl stiffled a yawn with her hand as she stretched with the other before crawling out of the bed. Carina was by far no morning person and it showed in her demeanor, a frown, squinty eyes, bedraggled hair and a shuffling of the feet as she went to the door of the bedroom. Her stomach immediately growled, letting her know she was yes, still hungry as yesterday it'd been naught much more then a few sips from a can of soda.

She thought of this briefly before opening the door, wondering if the two, or at least one of them was around. Carina saw the couch was now in disarray, the cushions strewn on the carpet, the sheet and blanket she'd been given were at opposite ends of the living area. Carina also noticed a number of vaguely familiar articles of clothing thrown seemingly haphazardly around the general area of the sofa. The slumbering couple were clambered on top of one another, Suku laying on Rico, her head nuzzled into his chest. Thankfully, for the young girl, the two decided to cover up with a blanket before calling it quits for the evening. Rico, head proped against the end of the couch, was still snoozing soundly, a look of content on his face as his chest rose and fell slowly. As the Fortuna morning peeked through the window, the Nepleslian man scrunched his eyes dissapprovingly, groaning in displeasure as he raised a free arm to momentarily shield his face.

Carina heard her father's groan, seeing his squinting eyes and was making a bee-line for him when she tripped over a loose piece of carpet right before the couch. She let out a startled yelp of surprise as she went face and torso first into the sleeping Suku, and groggy Rico. The little girl slid off the pair, knocking her chin on the edge of the couch clacking her teeth before she finally stopped the achingly slow slide down to the floor.

A soon as the child landed on her, Suku jolted up, her head rising a few inches in the sudden suprise. She looked around groggily, her eyes showing pain in the light of the room. Her body ached and she needed a shower, but her attention was drawn away from those personal problems as she looked down to see what hit her. When she saw Carina, her eyes popped open, and she looked over at the man she had been laying on for most of the night and morning.

Rico coughed as Carina struck the two of them, opening his eyes as he continued to shield them from the sunlight. At first he wasn't sure what had happened, but after looked down and following Suku's eyes as they trailed from Carina and back to him, Rico gave her a sly smile. "Mornin'," he declared in a quiet voice, apparently not all that concerned with Carina being there beside them.

"What tha' hell do you mean mornin'? We're butt-ass naked and she's right there." Suku said with a distressed notion, setting her chin down on his chest. Even though she seemed a little troubled by Carina's troubled presence, she did enjoy the position she was in.

"Well," Rico answered as he took in a deep breath, reaching his arms behind his head and rest on his palms as his coy grin grew even larger. "I ain't gettin' up first."

Apparently there 'are' some disadvantages to being on top, specifically in these situaions, as Suku realized. She stared silently at the man, appearing somewhat defeated, but still carrying a defiant look in her eye. So, instead of getting up, she just leaned over a bit and looked down at Carina, making sure the covers stayed on top of her.

"You alright, sweetie?" Suku asked the girl, wanting to use one of her hands to comfort the girl, but believed she'd need that shower first.

Suku got a little mewling sound in response before the little girl put both her hands underneath her, and pushed herself up shakily. She nodded a little, her head hurting slightly from the impact on her chin but overall she seemed fine. "Yea'...stupid carpet tripped me..." she muttered, then looked up at Suku curiously, noticing finally what was going on.

"Why're you an' Papi playin' couch fort for?" she asked staring from her father and then to Suku, and then to the room that while not clean to start with, was now messier.

"C-...Couch Fort?" Suku seemed oblivious, and was not sure how to respond to it. Her main concern was to make sure she didn't see the two of them naked. Around Carina's age, that happened to Suku, seeing the aftermath of her parents wild acts in the bedroom. Those were images that haunted her to this day, and she didn't exactly want to wish that upon the little girl.

"Yea'...me an' my friends used ta' play it... We'd take the cushions off tha' couches an' stack'em up an' make forts. But..." Carina seemed to stare at the scene a moment before shaking her head. "I never saw it played like tha' before. Why you wrapped up in'a sheet for?"

The Medical Officer wasn't creative enough for this, so she cast a desperate glance at Rico.

"Suku's scared a' ghosts," Rico said plainly, doing his absolute best not to burst out laughing. "Ya hide under sheets when yer scared."

"Yeah!" Suku played along, a very unsatisfied face hidden by a mask of agreement. "I'm... afraid of them... fuckin' ghosts, but I didn't let that ruin my night."

Carina's eyes went as wide as dinnerplates for a moment as she nodded along. "But Papi... I ain't gonna hide under no sheets! 'Cause you'll protect me an' kick'a ghost's ass righ'?" she asked hesitantly, wondering if she really would have to hide under a sheet or not since she was terrified of such things.

"You're right!" Rico stated loudly, beginning to wiggle his way out from under Suku's body. Making sure to use the pillow behind his head to cover himself as he stood up, the man gave the two a short laugh as he inched his way to the bathroom door. "I ain't afraid a' no ghost. But if I'm gonna kick some ghost ass, I'll need a shower."

Suku looked shocked as Rico decided to leave her on the couch and take command of shower privledges.

"You ass, haven't you ever heard'a ladies first?" The Doctor whined in frustration.

Instead of giving a spoken answer, Rico simply edged his way, antagonizingly slowly, towards the bathroom door as he continued to face the two, staring at Suku with the most smug grin he could muster in the early morning. "Ya could always get one with me, if ya want it that bad," he offered when he reached the door, raising his brow at the Doctor. It was a joke, of course, but he certainly wouldn't mind if she took him up on the offer.

Suku bit her lip, a small smile showing on her face, she tried to fight the expression, but it came anyway. With a sure grip, she tightened the blanket around herself. For once, she was actually faced with the decision of picking a Sanroma to 'stick with' instead of 'drop off'.

"Sweetie, me an' Papi are gunna' get a shower cause we... uh... sweated a lot during that game'a Couch Fort." Suku explained, realizing it may have needed a little more in the way of that. "It was pretty intense." She stood up and followed after Rico to the shower.

Carina, duped just nodded along as she yawned from her seat on the floor. Sooner or later she would have to get up and actually put herself in order, but frankly she didn't feel like it right now. Opting instead to watch morning cartoons while the pair showered.

"Pfft, couch fort," Rico repeated with a chuckle as he watched (with great interest) Suku rush past him, tossing his pillow back into the room as he quickly shut the door behind them.

"Shut up." Suku responded, tossing the blanket out of the bathroom before the door shut.

The blanket flew right over her head, causing Carina to squeal in surprise before a pillow hit her in the side of the head, causing her to nearly topple over again. For a moment she panicked, and then pulled the blanket off, looking warily around the room, as if there really was a ghost messing with her.

After Carina had time to consider the presence of ghost, a rather clear voice rang through the room.

"YOU NOW HAVE THREE NEW MESSAGES." chimed Suku's datajockey, lost somewhere in the mess.

Carina let out a little scream of abject terror and began pounding on the door to the bathroom yelling loudly. "Theres'a ghost out heeeereeeee heeeeeeeellllllpppppppp meeeeeeeeee!!!!" she continued to pound on the door with little fists wailing all the while.
