Character Name: Shuyan Wu
Species: Geshrin
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Parents: Jen and Xieng Wu
Faction: Civilian
Occupation: Journalist
Rank: NA
Current Assignment: Quite clearly... journalism.
Hair color and Style: Shuyan cuts her own hair, and it shows - it is somewhat uneven, and falls just slightly above her shoulders. Deepest raven in color, her tresses are well kept but rarely styled. She simply prefers her hair untangled.
Build and Skin Color: Her skin is of a rather soft olive, a bit too pale, speaking perhaps of some health problem. She is slight of form, and relatively plain - but certainly inconspicuous.
Face and Eye Color: Just as raven describes her hair, so too can it describe her visage - with rather sharp facial features and deep grey eyes burning with a certain undeniable cunning, she does indeed have an avian look to her.
Distinguishing Features: Though rarely visible, Shuyan possesses a deep scar diagonal across her left shoulder. What left it there is anyone's guess.
Personality: Generally easy-going and quick to strike up conversation, Shuyan is also shrewd and calculating. Even with her warm exterior and her generally peacable and endearing manner, there is a certain part of her always watching for any information to latch onto. She has a greed for learning, and always seeks out fresh knowledge with boundless conviction.
Likes: Challenging the status quo, writing, music, social interaction
Dislikes: Falsehood, coverups, violence, and "trance" music
Goals: To gain respect for her journalistic exploits and for her works of fiction.
Skills:
Communications
A strong point for Shuyan - she is a brilliantly talented writer and speaker, with a particular knack for - yes - journalistic ventures. She speaks with a definite eloquence and is also rather adept at gathering information through both research and conversation. As she should be - she considers it her life's work.
Information Technologi
Though she often found it pointless and difficult, Shuyan did learn to use computers and networks, and has been glad of that every day. Computers have given her a voice - she publishes several politically and socially charged articles every month via such machines. Still, her actually proficiency is merely average, and her coding skills are often less than she wishes they were.
Knowledge
To be armed with an impressive repertoire of legal and historical knowledge seemed instrumental to her pursuits, so she learned and swallowed all the law and all the history (from as many viewpoints as possible) as she could. She occasionally has problems with remembering specifics over the long term, and for this reason writes down most everything she hears. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese due to her parents insistence, and can read and write in it fluently as well. She has begun to pick up on vocal Japanese, but is satisfied enough with her ability to read it.
Entertainment
Due to her own personal interest in music, Shuyan insisted on learning to play the guitar. She is proficient, though not excellent, and rarely plays for anyone other than herself.
Art and Vocations
Beyond her capabilities with words, Shuyan is a rather talented painter, specializing in the medium of watercolor and oil pastels. She often illustrates her works of fiction, though she has yet to find anyone willing to publish either her writing or her art.
Mathematics
Though hardly a brilliant mathematician, she is quite capable of algebra and simpler operations. Her grasp of more complicated subjects - particular those pertaining to dimensional and quantum theories - is tenuous at best.
History
Shuyan was, obviously, born sometime between nineteen and twenty years ago.
Her father was a painter, her mother a journalist - the two greatest early influences on her life continue to manifest in her to this day. If talent is genetic, she inherited from both - if it is not, well, she was raised right. Except that her parents were often disappointed by her outspokenness and her love of conversation.
Although often reprimanded in school for talking in class, she made excellent marks, and sailed through her primary schooling. Attending University at the age of fifteen, she found that it wasnt as easy as she anticipated, and nearly lost her scholarships after the first semester. However, she has for the past four years worked rather hard at succeeding in her higher education, and has nearly completed said schooling.
With much of that behind her, she advances more and more into freelance journalism every month, and has recently submitted a book of fantasy short stories to be published.
