Approved Submission Star Army Fabrication Chamber, Type 39 + Supplemental Submissions

Toshiro

Inactive Member
Submission Type: Fabrication Chamber with supplemental Kiosk and Nanomachine tech
Submission URL: https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=wip:fabrication_chamber

Faction: Yamatai + Civilian
FM Approved Yet? No ( @Wes )
Faction requires art? Yes

For Reviewers:
Contains Unapproved Sub-Articles? Yes
Contains New art? Yes
Previously Submitted? No

Notes: This is a subsystem for the Plumeria/Chiaki refit I'm working on, but it and the sub-components have each grown into their own wider-reaching designs. Additional sub articles needing approval are:

https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=wip:multi-purpose_nanomachines_type_39
https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=wip:kiosk_console_line
https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=wip:zero-gravity_kiosk_console_type_39

The Kiosk Console Line will likely be expanded further with more types, but I'm a bit busy for that at the moment and those will be submitted as they are made. I just feel it's better to send this chunk for approval rather than the whole chained-together pylon when the time comes and it allows them to be used for other purposes.

The kiosks also allow for Mini-Neko duty stations, though they have a large number of similarities since they are simply SAoY and Civilian variants as of yet.

This suggestion has been implemented. Votes are no longer accepted.
Does the 39 and Civvie 0G kiosk contain much copypasta from one to the other? I just want to ask before I check.

There is a good amount of copypasta because they have a lot of the same components. There are enough differences, however, for there to be two articles.

The main differences are a lack of SPINE/Mini SPINE support in the civilian model, no PANTHEON access in the Civilian model, different colors, pricing differences, different offerings for the installed and upgrade options to the computer systems, the presence of a Integrated Computer Pad Dock Input Surface option on the military variant, higher quality audio I/O in the military variant, and the military variant being more locked down/no data cube or standard wired input.

Edit: I am working on consolidating options to make less repeats where possible. I might be able to make some progress in this regard.

Edit 2: Consolidated some data into the main Kiosk Line page. Can truncate some stuff in the individual actual Kiosk pages later. Is late.

Thanks! I've truncated and consolidated stuff and managed to remove the civilian variant of the Zero Gravity Kiosk Console. May re-add a more bare-bones second variant soon. Also added once sentence to the Fabrication Chamber, allowing it to be used for food, water, and medicine.

Can I ask before we go forward that you make no more changes unless I ask for them? It's hard when you change things I don't ask for because then I need to read something more/again that is unnecessary to have changed in my eyes. Make sure it's polished rn before I read through them fully.

Well, I was clarifying something the nanites were already capable of doing. I don't see why it couldn't really...especially stuff like Ration Pills. I was thinking more nutrition and bland than star trek replicator. I could add more limits to that. Like having to still have plant or meat material to process into food?

Wait... Hold on...

I want to make a Star Trek replicator for the SAoY in the very near future. Can this technology lead to the tech for replicators but not be there yet?

Can you clearly specify what it can and can't do in the form of food though?

It theoretically could do full-blown food replicator stuff now with nanites rearranging atoms and chemical bonds, but I was willing to back off a bit if it was an issue. Also, I intend for this technology to evolve into commercial desktop "Fabrication Printers" of sorts...a progression from 3D Printers. Of course, not being able to draw stuff from the Aether for civilian variants means that they would need to provide raw materials. So that could easily be a thing.

If it's not too overpowered after all, we can make it do replicator-like stuff.

Edit: After talking to some people and determining that people seem to want the more robust food option, I've added this section to the nanomachine article to make the explanations that Ame has requested. The Fabrication Chamber has had the following text added for this as well: "It can even be used for making or purifying air, food, water, and medicine; though making large quantities of food on demand may require time-saving measures that limit choice and even texture and taste. Feeding more than 30 people three meals a day per chamber may cause this issue."

It allows the existence of replicator-type functionality for food and such, but needs a source of atoms. These can be collected and delivered directly from other sources, be supplemented by the environmental system's waste and air scrubbing system, be sustained by colonists dumping in rocks, water, and foliage, or simply be connected to a fusion or aether reactor that can resolve the limitations of the nanites' lack of ability to manipulate atomic nuclei.

The Fabrication Chamber, as a result, would be without theoretical limit in the complexity of the food it could produce, save time constraints and effective programming. In practice though, home cooked might be preferred in a number of cases.

Access Doors <== can you describe how big they are? What can fit through them?

Otherwise, approvable.

Updated the following to reflect the question:

"
=== Access Doors ===
There are two hexagonal access doors on the Fabrication Chamber that each consist of sliding panels. One door is on the front, to the left of the Kiosk Console, and the other is opposite it to the rear of the chamber. While the one next to the Kiosk Console is almost always accessible for manual use, the rear-mounted one can often be recessed into a wall and loaded/unloaded by an automated system. This is commonly utilized when the Fabrication Chamber is used to synthesize ammunition for a vessel. Each door is 1m tall, is 1.26m wide at its narrowest points at the top and bottom, and is 1.66m wide at its widest point at the center. They can easily accommodate a 1500cm x 300cm round.
