Approved Submission Star Army Research Administration Update

This suggestion has been implemented. Votes are no longer accepted.
I fixed the OOC notes for you to properly indicate the line of creation. I'll take the review, but @Wes for FM since this is major Yamatai stuff (I'll wait for his FM stamp)

I also would suggest doing some forum and wiki diving to look into SARA's history, just because I think the short entry there could use a little more love.

Search for terms "SARA, Star Army Research Administration, and the names of key SARA personnel."

Star Army Science Officers can wear the patch of their Division, which are then displayed on their uniform, in the same place Star Army Rangers position theirs.
This is kind of a strange way of saying where they wear their patches because it just makes the player read an entirely unrelated page rather than actually specifying where SARA wears their SARA patch. Plus, the Star Army has broad regulations for where unit patches are worn, so it seems like an unnecessarily complicated way of describing something that is regulated by a higher command authority.

I've been doing some thinking on this and some thoughts I've had -

I believe the Science Officer does have some roles in SARA, I can't help but think though that this overlooks the roles of the Technicians and Engineers role in R&D. I can think of several Technicians/Engineering geared characters like Kage Yaichiro and Soresu's Koyama and many many others that have been major contributors to R&D over the years. They are the ones doing the tinkering, tweaking, and improvising in the field that leads to a lot of developments.

Back in the day, Taisho Yui gave Katsuko's 5th XF a role in a starship improvement program where they suggested refits and modifications improve the ships in the fleet and it was the technicians and engineering staff that handled the roles of actually testing and implementing.

I thoroughly believe SARA does have some Science Officers involved in areas like Materials Science, Chemistry, etc. I think though as it stands this overlooks the important role and historical roles of technicians and their involvement in R&D.

In addition to this, I think that it is likely that SARA has a strong relationship with the Star Army Military-Industrial Complex which includes Ketsurui Zaibatsu and its subsidiaries like KFY and Kessaku Electronics, and other companies that contribute to SAOY designs like Yugumo Corporation, Origin Industries, Geshrini Shipyards, etc. Probably also wouldn't hurt to mention places like Nemesis Bastion (That has classified R&D sites for KFY and Yu) and Keiyo City.

Anyway, that is just my two cents.

Do you think we should include redshirts somewhere in here in that case? I guess there isn't a central research/experimental command for them either currently, as you say.

I chatted to Wes when writing this article regarding Acquisitions having a large role in liaising with civilian contractors, like those you mentioned. However, Wes ultimately decided that was probably something that Star Army Logistics were better equipped to do - bids and purchasing deals etc.

I think the red shirts should be.

In terms of the purchasing and bidding - yes that is more logistics.

But SARA would most likely have relationships with these firms to ensure ships are being produced with the latest and best technologies, etc.

I've made some updates to take these notes onboard.

EDIT:
I've just seen that Star Army Logistics has an Acquisitions Division all of its own
It may be apt to make the Division be a joint effort, but I may need guidance on that point from an FM

EDIT 2:
On further clarification and chatting with Andrew, the SARA article should hopefully reflect the relationship between the two divisions well.

I'm hoping to get a chance to help with this submission this weekend. Thank you Ethereal for your patience!

Ethereal I noticed you linked in combat engineers, the actual occupation I was referring to was the Technician, which should be added to. Anyway, waiting to see what Wes comes up with on this since he is going to help you out.

Hey everyone, this has sat idle for about a month. Is there anything I can do to help you get it across the finish line?

If I don't see any activity in the next week, I'll move it to inactive - but am happy to take it back out as soon as you're ready!

Thanks!

Sorry about that, with all the RP going on and other stuff I've been doing, this kind of slipped my mind until you bumped it. I'll try to get to this in the evening once I'm home from work and at my PC.

Overall I think the article is approvable. However none of the people listed in the list of characters seem to be SARA personnel, it's just a list of science specialists.

Oh right, that's because I mention in the article that Science Officers report their findings in to SARA and can ask them for assistance or projects to work on. So I included them in the list of characters (given the only people who would work for SARA otherwise would be quite limited, in terms of who actually actively RPs them). Idea being that SARA is there as a support network for Science Officers (connecting them with other scientists to collaborate with etc), like other similar organisations are for other occupations. It's been a while since I looked at the article, but I believe it can help engineers with finding projects to do too.
