An incredibly fun top down spaceship game with interesting mechanics that make each battle entertaining. Think Mount and Blade meets Star Control 2 with a bit of Mechwarrior thrown in.

Essentially you play as an independant captain in a chaotic star system set in the dysotopian future, making your way through trading, smuggling, bounty hunting, or once you've built up a fleet, straight out raiding one of the factions.

The AI is actually pretty smart in controlling ships both enemy and ally. They'll back off when they're about to overheat, save some missiles till you're vulnerable during an overheat, and generally act like they have some self preservation and coordination. That starting frigate you have may be nice, but having another to back you up can make all the difference against pirate scout groups.

Not to mention, even though it's not yet finished, the game in its current state is incredibly polished, the developer making sure the core of the game, the combat, is complete and stable. Feedback is listened to and many agree it was worth more than the asking price a long time ago. The modding scene is very alive and can change how the overworld is played entirely. (Want to be a part of a faction and invade planets and stations till you control the whole sector? Mod it in!)

Several of us here in SARP have already enjoyed this game immensely. Give it a shot!

EDIT: As someone already brought it up, there are mac and linux versions too!

Starsector is well worth the money. Much more polished and well thought out than a lot of the stuff that gets put up on Steam for the same price these days. Plus, modding, and a good community around it.
