It'd be cool to have some standards for ships:

1. Standard airlock diameter and locking mechanisms (cargo and personnel)
2. Escape pod requirement for civilian ships (escape pods seats per passenger)
3. Cargo container shapes, sizes, and colors
4. Standard docking/shuttle bay sizes
5. Standard Shuttle Sizes (?)

Maybe cool for the SAoY, but not all ships are SAoY and not everyone would have the same standards due to simple preference.

In short: I like being different (difficult).
 
I think some of these make sense, if they can be agreed upon by the two nations. The airlock diameter, escape pod requirements, cargo container sizes and shapes (use the DOCs?) especially.

The two bits about docking/shuttle bays and shuttles ... that's not likely. It doesn't make sense to have those. Maybe minimum sizes for the bays, but shuttles can be as big or small as the market demands.
 
Well, the cargo containers will be standardized for the same reasons the world uses standard cargo containers today: it's easier for everyone and saves money.

The SARP needs standardized cargo containers sizes because it'll allow us ship designers to design the most useful cargo bays and to know what size airlocks and doorways should be, as well as forklift sizes and such.

I was thinking these, actually. DOCs are cool but way too huge for internal cargo.

Please note I've not finished my article yet, it's very non-detailed so far.

Going by this, standardized cargo areas would be, ideally, in increments of 25m wide by 10m deep by 5m tall, which is pretty reasonable and easy.

Since participation has been minimal, I've decided:

1. Standard airlock diameter:
* for cargo: 3 meters (circular)
* for personnel only: 1m

2. Civilian ships operating a commercial passenger transport service must have 120% of their passengers worth of escape pods seats. Cargo ships are recommended by not required to have escape pods. Military ships' needs are determined by individual militaries.

3. Cargo containers:

Standard colors:

Gray - Generic Civilian/Unmarked Cargo
Green - DION Government/Military Property
White top, red bottom - Ketsurui Clan
White with gray top and bottom - SAoY
Other colors - various corporations

4 & 5: Will be determined later, don't worry too much about them now.
